Yurii Kniaz

Yurii Kniaz passed away at the age of 87 in Zebulon, GA, on June 27, 2024. Yurii was born on February 8, 1937, in Potoczek, Poland, to the late Piotr Kniaz and Aniela (Galant) Kniaz. After WW II, Yurii’s parents moved their family to Ukraine and settled in Lviv where Yurii grew up and lived most of his life. After high school, Yurii graduated from College of Decorative and Applied Arts majoring in wood carving. In 1962, he married Alla Marna, and the couple enjoyed a happy marriage for 62 years. Yurii and Alla raised a daughter, Natalia. During his professional career Yurii did what he loved most: he worked as an artist in Lviv Art Fund from which he retired at the age of 58. His artwork graces state and private collections in Ukraine and other countries. In 2022, when Russia attacked Ukraine, Yurii along with his wife Alla were forced to leave their home in Lviv and join their daughter in Zebulon, GA. 

Yurii is survived by his beloved wife, Alla Kniaz; daughter and son-in-law, Natalia and Eric Genzlinger; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Yurii and Olena Lazor; great-grandson, Dominik Lazor; and sister, Nadia Basa of Lviv, Ukraine. 

 

The funeral service will be Friday, July 5, at 10:30 a.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home, with visitation from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Fincher Memorial Cemetery in Meansville.
