Mrs. Bessie Ruth Driver, age 89, of Thomaston, died Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at her residence.
Mrs. Driver, was born April 1, 1930, in Thomaston to the late Tom Boy Molton and Nannie Bell Molton. She was a retired inspector for the Wm. Carter Company.
Mrs. Driver will always be remembered by her family as a loving and devoted wife, and caring mother, grandmother, great and great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Dewey Driver; and sisters, Mary Rigby and Lillie Hunt. Survivors are her son, Steve (Karen) Driver; grandchildren, Britney (Daniel) Ishee, Lindsay (John Wesley) Long, and Brett Driver; great-grandchildren Joshua Ishee, Faith Ishee, Macie Ishee, Aliyah Ishee and Noah Ishee; and great-great-grandchild, Nathaniel Ishee.

Mr. Danny Kenneth Boyt Sr. age 73 of Thomaston Ga, died Thursday June 27, 2019 at The Medical Center of Central Georgia.
Mr. Boyt was born on February 26, 1946 in Thomaston Ga, to the late Jim Boyt and the late Ester McRae Boyt. He worked for Southern Natural Gas for many years. Mr. Boyt served his country in the U.S. Air Force.

Joshua Ray Lawrence, age 38, of Zebulon, passed away June 27, 2019. He grew up in Pike County and enjoyed fishing, camping, and floating the river. Josh loved Jesus and his family. He was known for his sweet spirit and kind and loving heart. He was always willing to help anyone in need.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Horace Grady Reeves, Polly Reeves, Cecil Lawrence and Mildred Lawrence.
He is survived by his wife: Angel Lawrence; son: River Ray Lawrence; parents: Billy and Ann Lawrence of Zebulon; sister and brother-in-law: Angie and Chris Nix of Thomaston; nephew: Austin Nix; his beloved dog Rio; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 30, at 5 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with Pastor John Nance officiating. Burial will follow in Moody Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit the family on Sunday, 4 to 5 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Harry Edgar Staniland age 88 of Griffin Ga, formerly of Thomaston Ga, died Friday June 28, 2019 at Brightmoor Hospice.
Mr. Staniland was born on September 21, 1930 in Sewickley Pa, to the late Harry Lester Staniland and the late Pearl Richardson Staniland. He worked for Atlas Bolt & Screw as a sales rep for many years. Mr. Staniland was a member of the Morning Star Masonic Lodge #27 F&AM and also enjoyed being a Shriner.
Survivors include his wife Mrs. Shirley Staniland, children Jody (Jim) Pena, Jerry Staniland, Traci (Rick) Voss, Brenda (John) Niemann, Mark (Nancy) Staniland, Bill (Diane) Staniland, Todd Staniland, Erick Staniland, many grandchildren and great grandchildren also survive.

MRS. MARGARITE ELIZABETH VAUGHN DAVIS
Mrs. Margarite Elizabeth Vaughn Davis, age 76, of Barnesville, GA passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Wellstar Spalding Regional Hospital.
Margarite was born on Tuesday, March 2, 1943 to the late George Clifford Vaughn, Jr. and the late Martha Jane Jones Vaughn. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Luther Allen Davis. Margarite worked for Heritage Inn as a nurse.
She is survived by her children, George Russell Boyt, Jr. (Rosie), Amelia Chambers (Jack), and Robin Boyt (Patsy); numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews also survive.

COACH JAMES DAWKINS
Mr. James Franklin Dawkins, known throughout the community as "Coach
Dawkins", died Monday, June 24th, 2019 at Riverside Health and Rehab. He
was 97.
Funeral services for Coach Dawkins will be held on Thursday, June 27th, 2019
at 2:00 PM at the Thomaston-Upson Civic Center with Rev. Bill Barber and Dr.
Glenn Gilstrap officiating. Burial will follow in South View Cemetery. The
family of Coach Dawkins will receive friends at the Civic Center on Thursday
from 1:00 pm until the funeral hour.
Coach Dawkins was born on May 17th, 1922 in Porterdale, the second of nine
children born to Franklin Thomas and Myrtle Mae Torbush Dawkins. His
parents moved their family to Thomaston when he was six years old, and he
attended East Thomaston Grammar School and graduated from R. E. Lee
Institute in 1940.
Coach Dawkins served in the U. S. Army from 1942 through 1946 and served in
the European Theater, France and England. During his military service he
played football for the Seine Comets, who played mostly in Europe in the mid
1940's.
After his military service he returned to Thomaston, attended Gordon
Military College and Erskine College and met Betty Jean Jones on the Upson
County Courthouse square. They married in 1948.
In 1951 Coach Dawkins began working at R. E. Lee Grammar School as the PE
teacher. Approximately three years later he began after school activities
at Weaver Park for the City and County school systems in addition to
teaching during the day. In 1975 with the construction of the Civic Center,
he became the recreation director. He retired from the Recreation
Department in 1984.
Among his many accomplishments and awards, Coach Dawkins received the
Georgia Parks and Recreation Distinguished Service Award for 35 years of
service to Thomaston-Upson County. In 2005 he was inducted as a charter
member into the Thomaston Upson Sports Hall of Fame and in 2009 he received
the Sertoma Service to Mankind Award. He was honored in a 2011 tribute by
the Upson Lee High School Athletic Booster Club. In 2014 he was awarded the
Thomason-Upson Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award.
In 2013 the newly renovated Recreation Youth Football Complex was named in
his honor. Coach Dawkins produced numerous sports teams of quality and
great discipline, including the Little League State Champions in 1972. He
was instrumental in starting the Junior Peach Football Bowl. Many of his
athletes went on to have outstanding high school and collegiate careers.
After retirement Coach Dawkins enjoyed golfing, caring for his property,
meeting with his coffee club to discuss "going ons" in Upson County,
traveling with Mrs. Dawkins, and attending Upson-Lee home football games
where he was the "keeper" of the press box.
Coach Dawkins was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and was also a
member of the American Legion and the VFW.
Coach Dawkins and his wife were the proud parents of a son, James Franklin
"Jim" Dawkins, Jr., born on December 30, 1959. Jim was a member of Coach
Dawkins' 1972 Thomaston Little League All-Star team that won the state
championship and advanced to the southeastern playoffs in Florida. Jim died
of leukemia in 1979.
Coach Dawkins is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Jones Dawkins; two
sisters, Frances D. Deal of Atlanta and Fairy D. Jackson of Hiawassee; a
brother, Leonard Dawkins of Atlanta; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Knight was born February 24, 1946, in Thomaston, to the late Lynwood Rowell and Ruby Smith Rowell. She was a homemaker.

Mr. Cecil Edward Foster, age 84, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, June 11, 2019, at the Upson Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Foster was born on September 27, 1934 in Thomaston Ga, to the late William Edward Foster and the late Rosa Lee York Foster. He worked as a truck driver for many years. Mr. Foster served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Jean Fallin Foster, his son Michael Wayne Foster and brother Woodrow Foster.

MRS. ELIZABETH VIRGINIA KAY
Mrs. Elizabeth Virginia Kay, age 81, of Thomaston, died Saturday, June 8, 2019, at her residence in Thomaston.
Mrs. Kay was born on October 22, 1937 in Thomaston Ga, to the late William Henry "Buddy" Johnson and the late Willie Maude Partian Johnson Wade. She retired from Upson Regional Medical Center in the billing department, and attended Faith Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Kay, and sister, Betty Templeton.
Survivors include brother, Gene(Shirley) Johnson of Thomaston Ga, and brother-in-law Avery Hurst, sisters, Carolyn Akins and Audrey Wisham of Thomaston Ga. Several nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday June 10, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Faith Baptist Church on Monday June 10, 2019 from 12:00 p.m.- 2:00 p.m.

Mrs. Carol Ann White Mathis age 67 of Conyers Ga, died Wednesday June 5, 2019 at Emory University Hospital Midtown. Funeral Arrangements will be announced later.
Mrs. Mathis was born on August 23, 1951 in Thomaston Ga, to the late Aubrey S. White and the late Eugenia Dean White. She was formerly employed with Treasure Drugs where she worked for many years. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her step son Daniel Mathis and sister Diane Hurst.
Survivors include her husband Sheridan Mathis of Conyers Ga, daughters Angel Mathis of Conyers Ga, Hayley (Jeremy) Smith of Conyers Ga, step daughter Heather Mathis of Thomaston Ga, sons Frank (Sabrena) Reid of Thomaston Ga, Jason (Hollie) Mathis of Thomaston Ga, step son Alan Mathis of Thomaston Ga, brother Sammy (Nesha) White of Conyers Ga, brother in law Avery Hurst, sister Clara (Tony) Garcia of Conyers Ga, 15 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.

MR. ROBERT LEON ADAMS
Mr. Robert Leon Adams, age 76, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at Riverside Health and Rehab.
Mr. Adams was born on August 5, 1942 in Thomaston, Ga, to the late Robert Lee Adams and the late Eunice Gissendanner Adams. He was a graduate of Pike County High School. Mr. Adams was an avid Nascar, Braves and Georgia Bulldog fan. He was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church. Mr. Adams was formerly employed with B.F. Goodrich Mill where he worked in the supply department for many years and was later employed with The Georgia Department of Transportation where he worked in the parts department for ten years. He also owned and operated Big Chic in Covington Ga, for eight years.
Survivors include his wife Mrs. Geneva Lindsay Adams of Thomaston, Ga, daughters Ms. Tangi Adams of Snellville, Ga, Mrs. Yodie (Barry) Ellerbee of Thomaston, Ga, Mrs. Tina (Sammy) Coker of Thomaston, Ga, Mrs. April (Tom) Lowry of North Augusta,S.C, son Mr. Lance (Dana) Greene of Thomaston, Ga, brother Mr. Leland (Debbie) Adams of Thomaston, Ga, sister Mrs. Susan (Roy) Fain of St. Charles IL, 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Kelley was born in Thomaston on August 19, 1941, to the late John C.
McGahee and Dorothy Middlebrooks McGahee. She was a 1959 graduate of R. E.
Lee Institute and was a retired customer service agent with Atlanta Gas
Light Company. Mrs. Kelley was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, John J. and Gail McGahee of
Marietta, GA.
