Karen C. Harville

Mrs. Karen C. Harville, a cherished resident of Thomaston, GA, passed away on July 18, 2024, leaving behind a tapestry of love, service, and laughter that defined her remarkable life. Born on October 15, 1944, to Eunice and Jim Crosby from Green, Iowa, Karen's early years were shaped by the beauty of the Pacific Northwest, where she developed a deep appreciation for nature and community.

A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Karen's life will be held Wednesday, July 24, at 1:00 PM, at St. Peter the Rock Catholic Church in The Rock, GA. Father Thomas Zahuta will officiate. The family of Mrs. Harville will receive friends following the service at the church on Wednesday.

Karen's journey in life was marked by a profound dedication to enriching the lives of others through her career as a speech therapist. After graduating from Goldendale High School, she pursued her undergraduate studies at the University of Washington, where her passion for helping others flourished. She later earned her Master's in Speech and Language Pathology from Western Michigan University, further honing her expertise.

Beyond her professional achievements, Karen was a beacon of faith and service in her community. Her commitment to the Catholic Church was unwavering, and she was honored with the Catholic Woman of the Year Award in 2002 for her tireless devotion and leadership. Karen's faith not only guided her actions but also inspired those around her, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Karen's generous spirit extended far beyond her church duties. As an active member of the Rotary Club of Thomaston, she hosted seven students through the Georgia Rotary Student Program, fostering cultural exchange and understanding. Her exemplary leadership within the club was recognized with the Sheffield Award in 2004-2005, highlighting her dedication to service above self.

Music was a cherished part of Karen's life, reflecting her love for Motown, the Beatles, and her talent as a pianist and singer. For years, she shared her musical gifts at church, enriching worship services and touching the hearts of those who listened.

Karen's warmth and humor were contagious, brightening the lives of everyone she encountered. Her quick wit and playful spirit made her a joy to be around, and her generosity knew no bounds. Despite not having biological children, Karen and her husband, Dick, embraced the role of parents and mentors to several girls over the years, providing them with guidance, love, and a nurturing home environment.

In addition to her local contributions, Karen was a global humanitarian through her involvement with Operation Smile, participating in over 25 missions across Asia, Africa, and South America. Her efforts brought smiles to countless children's faces, embodying her belief in making a difference wherever she could.

Karen C. Harville leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering faith that will continue to inspire generations. She will be deeply missed by her loving husband, Dick, her daughters Perla, Linda, Victoria, Natalia, and Kim, and a wide circle of friends, colleagues, and community members whose lives she touched with her kindness and compassion.
