RETIRED SPALDING COUNTY PROBATE JUDGE DEWITT SIMONTON JR. , AGE 86, DIED WEDNESDAY AT WOODS SENIOR CARE. A MEMORIAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD FRIDAY (TODAY) 11AM AT FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF GRIFFIN.

BEFORE BEING ELECTED TO PUBLIC OFFICE, JUDGE SIMONTON WAS NEWS DIRECTOR AT WKEU RADIO IN GRIFFIN.

SURVIVORS INCLUDE HIS BROTHER, COACH TOM SIMONTON WHO WAS ON THE COACHING STAFF OF COACH JIM CAVAN AT RE LEE BEFORE BECOMING A HEAD COACH AT SEVERAL GA. HIGH SCHOOLS, INCLUDING HEAD COACH AT MACON CENTRAL FOR 19 YEARS.

Mrs. Carlene Fuller James, 87, of Thomaston died May 27, 2019 at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon.
Mrs. James was born on July 7, 1931 in Miami Fl, to the late John Fuller and the late Margaret Mimbs Fuller. She was formerly employed with West Central Georgia Bank where she worked as an administrative secretary. Mrs. James was a member of Antioch Methodist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Charles Monroe James.
Survivors include her daughter Ms. Sandy Bates of Thomaston Ga, son Mr. Steve (Christy) James of Thomaston Ga, grandchildren Mr. Josh (Mallory) Bates, Mr. Thomas (Emily) James, Mr. Ben James, great grandson Mr. Ellis Bates.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday May 29, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Coggins Funeral Home on Wednesday May 29, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Mrs. Lorrene Lucile Smith, age 68, of Thomaston, died Monday, May 27, 2019, at her residence in Thomaston.
Mrs. Smith was born February 27,1951, an Atlanta, to the late Joseph N. Maniscalco and Sarah Baily Maniscalco. She was a retired restaurant server and of the baptist faith.
She is survived by her daughters, Tina Dover and Cindy (Paul) Watson; son, Joseph Perkins; 8 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services for Mrs. Smith will be held on Friday, May 31, 2019, at 11:00 AM in Southview Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 31, 2019, from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at Coggins Funeral Home.

Mr. Robert B. Smith, known throughout Thomaston and surrounding communities
as Coach Bobby Smith, died Thursday, May 23rd, 2019 at Upson Regional
Medical Center.  He was 79.
Memorial services for Coach Smith will be held on Saturday, May 25th, 2019
at 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Thomaston.  The family
will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist
Church from 1:00 PM until the service hour.

Tara Janeen Corley Hollingsworth, age 22, of Thomaston, passed away May 19, 2019, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.  Tara graduated from Upson-Lee High School in 2015. She loved animals and enjoyed going to concerts.  She was selfless, and had a heart of gold. 
She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Harold Corley, Cecil Salter, Jr., and Bobby Hankinson, and her great-grandmother, Arsie Salter.
She is survived by her husband: Shane Hollingsworth; parents: Brian and Karla Corley, and Amanda Salter Corley all of Thomaston; grandparents: Pamela and Ronnie Raybon of Meansville, Beverly Corley and Barbara Hankinson both of Thomaston; brothers: Brein Race Corley, Tucker Jase Corley, and Michael Clemons all of Thomaston; sisters:  Sarah Clemons and Hannah Clemons of Thomaston; uncles and aunts: Rocky Salter, Kevin Hankinson, Bill and Lynn Corley, Randy and Kelly Moseley, Dennis Dawson, Sandra and Clay Allison; best friend:  Hannah White; beloved animals: Daisey Mae, Floof, Rolly, Papa Cat, Calico and Peaches.
Friends may visit the family on Wednesday 5-7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Robin Jones Avery, age 70, of Thomaston Ga, died Sunday, May 19, 2019, at The Medical Center of Central Georgia.
Mrs. Avery was born May 30, 1948, in Upson County to the late Robert Jones and Catherine Kelly Jones. She retired from the Upson Regional Medical Center records and billing department. She was a member of Silvertown Baptist Church and worker in their soup kitchen.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne Avery; daughter, Deanne Avery; son, John (Kim) Martin; sisters, Sandra (David) Johnson and Brenda (Steve) Adams; brother, Danny (Jane) Jones; and grandchild, Payton Owens.
Funeral services for Mrs. Avery will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at 12:00 PM at Silvertown Baptist Church, burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 from 11:00 - 12:00 PM at the Church.

April 1, 2019, at Upson Regional Medical Center.

First Presbyterian Church of Thomaston at 11:00 AM, with Dr. Glenn Gilstrap
officaiting. The family of Rev. Sizemore will receive friends from 10:00 AM

home.

MRS. BETTY SUE O'CONNER

Mrs. Betty Sue O' Conner, 86 of Marilyn Dr. in Thomaston died May 14, 2019 at her residence.
Funeral services will be Thursday May 16, 2019 1:00 PM in the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. O'Conner was born May 7, 1933 in Soperton, GA to the late Cleve George and Sadie Moore Derriso. She was a member of Outreach Full Gospel Pentecostal Church and will always be remembered for the love she gave to her family and friends. 
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Henry O'Conner, son, Donald Hugh O'Conner, brother, George Derriso and sisters, Audrey Derriso, Annie Mae Terry and Cornelia Schults.
Survivors include her daughters, Brenda Diane Walker of Meansville, Linda Marie Ellington of Thomaston, Kathy Phillips of Thomaston and Gloria Marie Cook and her husband Danny of Thomaston, sons, Henry Allen O'Conner and his wife Wanda , Larry James O'Conner and Christopher O' Conner all of Thomaston, brothers, David Derriso of Dublin and James Eddie Derriso of Swainsboro and her sister, Nellie Odom of Dublin, eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at Coggins Funeral Home.

MR. WADE GILBERT

Mr. Wade Gilbert, 74 of Twinwood Street in Thomaston died May 14, 2019 at his residence.
Mr. Gilbert was born November 17, 1944, in Upson County to the late James J. and Innell Melton Gilbert.  He retired from Martha Mills, working maintenance for 40 years.  Mr. Gilbert was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church and the East Thomaston Masonic Lodge 175.  He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.  In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his son Mark Gilbert, brothers and sisters Randy and Harrington Gilbert, Feburia Reedy, and sister-in-law Anne Gilbert.
Survivors include his wife Eunice R. Gilbert, daughter, Lisa Gilbert, brothers, Jimmy Gilbert, Ricky (Janet) Gilbert, Robert Gilbert, sister, Nyoka Rowe, sister-in-law, Mary Ann Gilbert, 2 grandchildren, Anthony Gilbert, Maria Gilbert, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. for the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery with Masonic Rites and military honors. The family will receive friends at Coggins Funeral Home on Thursday May 16, 2019 from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m..
