MR. JOSEPH RANDALL BRIDGES

Mr. Joseph Randall "Randy" Bridges, age 59, of Thomaston, died Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at St. Joseph Hospital in Atlanta.

Mr. Bridges was born on March 4, 1961 in Thomaston, to the late Jerry Wayne Bridges and Georgia Mae Gibson Bridges. He was a former painter and carpenter and was a member of Elkins Creek Baptist Church. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his brother, Gregory Scott Bridges.

Survivors include his mother, Georgia Bridges of Thomaston, brother, Chris (Felicia) Bridges of Thomaston, sister, Kim (Allen) Beverly of Thomaston, nephews, CJ (Brittany) Bridges of Thomaston, Tyler Bridges of Concord, Trey Bridges of Concord, nieces, Ashley Houston, Alesha Bridges, Amber Coggins all of Thomaston, great nieces and nephews, Kamryn, Klayton, Nicholas, Brilee, and Kobyn.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday January 3, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. from Elkins Creek Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Elkins Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 2, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.

MR. WALTER DONALD "DOC" DANIEL

Mr. Walter Donald "Doc" Daniel age 87 of Thomaston Ga, passed away Tuesday December 29, 2020 at his residence.

Mr. Daniel was born on September 27, 1933, in Upson County, to the late Walter Watson Daniel and the late Annie Talley Daniel. He retired from the Thomaston Mill in 1990 as a Shift Foreman, and was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Presley Daniel, brother, Thomas "TB" Biggers Daniel, and sister, Annie Ruth Stribling.

Survivors include his daughter, Angie (Clay) Moore of Thomaston, sister, Arrie Willis of Thomaston, grandchildren, Brittany (Will) Darnell of Macon and Chad Moore of Thomaston.

Funeral services will be held on January 1, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Southview Cemetery. The family will receive friends on January 1, 2021 from 10:00 a.m -11:00 a.m at Coggins Funeral Home.

JOHN ALFRED "AL" HUDSON

John Alfred (Al) Hudson, Jr., 64, of Yatesville, GA, passed away December 29, 2020. Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late John Alfred Hudson, Sr. of Rockingham, NC, and Sylvia Maze Hudson of Thomaston, GA. A graduate of Richmond Senior High School, Al had a career in the building trade and construction, and as a machinist. In his spare time, he pursued his love of music through composing, singing, and playing guitar. His Christian faith gave him a kind and humble spirit. He never met a stranger and was a friend to all.

He is survived by his sister Nancy Crook of Yatesville; two nieces, Christian Evans (Mark) of Barnesville, GA; Carmen Crook of Athens, GA, and a nephew, Cody Crook of Yatesville.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date in Rockingham, NC.

MRS. BETTY JEAN RILEY

Mrs. Betty Jean Riley age 70 of Thomaston Ga, passed away Tuesday December 29, 2020 at her residence.

Mrs. Riley was born on January 12, 1950 in Louden County Tn, to the late Claude Waldrop and the late Jeanette Brown Lunsford. She was employed with Wal-Mart where she worked as a cashier. Mrs. Riley was a member of Good Hope Pentecostal Church in Barnesville Ga. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband and son.

Survivors include her son Thomaston Joe (Mechelle) Riley of Breman Ga, sister Patricia Western of Thomaston Ga, companion Tom Brooks of Thomaston Ga, grandchildren Joseph Todd Riley, Thomas Matthew Riley.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday January 2, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in College Park Cemetery in College Park at 1:30 p.m. The family will receive friends at Coggins Funeral Home on Saturday January 2, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

MRS. MARJORIE PHILLIPS COCHRAN

 Mrs. Marjorie Phillips Cochran of Meansville, age 75, died Monday, December 28, 2020, at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Cochran was born on August 7, 1945 in Thomaston, Georgia, to the late Lee Roy Phillips and the late Myrtice Oliver Phillips.  She worked as an Expediter at the William Carter Co. and was a member of Pine Mt. Church of the Nazarene.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, James Keith Cochran, brother, Fatso Phillips, sister, Joy Strickland.

Survivors include her daughters, Pamela Livingston of Meansville, Laura (Joey) Caraway of Meansville, brothers, Royal Philips of Cochran, Henry D, Phillips of Meansville, Jerome (Gloria) Phillips of Thomaston, sisters, Martha (Joe) Daniel of Thomaston, Bennie Ree (Buck) Chapman of Thomaston, Mari Jo (Darrell) King of Flovilla, Cherry (Ricky) McCard of Thomaston, grandchildren, Curtis Livingston, Haley Jackson, Zeke Jackson, Hunter Caraway, great-grandchildren, Gunner Livingston, Emmaleigh Caraway.

Mr. Michael Lee Thrasher, age 50 of Thomaston Ga, died Tuesday December 29, 2020 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Thrasher was born on February 18, 1970, in Upson County, to Jerry Douglas Thrasher, and Patricia Ann Rice Thrasher. He is of the Baptist Faith.

Survivors include his father, Jerry (Deborah) Thrasher of Thomaston, mother, Patricia Ann Rice, daughter, Katie Bash of Thomaston, sons, Michael, Justin, Austin, Ashton, Dalton Thrasher all of Thomaston, brother, Mark Thrasher of Thomaston, sister, Tracy Thrasher of Thomaston, and several grandchildren.

 Mr. Kenneth Eugene Baker, 76, of Thomaston, GA died December 25, 2020 at his residence.

Mr. Baker was born on Mar 31, 1944 in Pike County Ga, to the late Clarence Baker and the late Maddie Lee McCard Baker. He worked for Thomaston Mills for many years and later worked as a Crossing Guard for the Upson County School System. Mr. Baker was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church.

MR. WILLIE PAUL "BILL" MEWBOURN

 Mr. Willie Paul "Bill" Mewbourn, age 89, of Thomaston GA, passed away Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at Brightmoor Hospice.

Mr. Mewbourn was born on September 12, 1931 in Emanuel County, Georgia, to the late Clyde Mewbourn and the late Alice Hilderbrandt Mewbourn.  He worked for the Thomaston Police Department and the Upson County Sheriff's Office then retired from the State of Georgia after 20 plus years of service.  He was a member of Pritchett Memorial and attended Shiloh Baptist Church and Jeff Davis Baptist Church.  He is preceded in death by his parents, and his eight brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean Mewbourn of Thomaston, daughter, Sandra McDuffie of Thomaston, sons, Larry Mewbourn of Thomaston, Todd Mewbourn and wife Melinda of Thomaston, granchildren, Chase (Morgan) Mewbourn, Lauren Mewbourn, and great-granchild, Riley Mewbourn.

MR. JERRY ALLEN WALKER

 Mr. Jerry Allen Walker, age 62, of Thomaston, died Friday, December 18, 2020, at his residence.

Mr. Walker was born on July 8, 1958 in Thomaston, to the late James Gary Walker, and the late Irene Brackett Walker.  He worked maintenance for the Upson County School System, and was a member of Emory's Chapel Baptist Church.  He served his country in the U.S. Army.  He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Deborah Jean Williams.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Walker, brother Danny (Cassie) Walker of Thomaston, nephew Jessie Walker, and mother-in-law, Frances Hawkins.

 rs. Cheryl Childree, age 72, of Thomaston, died Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin.

Mrs. Childree was born on April 9, 1948 in Thomaston to the late James Edward Smith and the late Evelyn Partain Smith.  She retired from Windstream/Alltel Telephone Company after 30 plus years, and then went on to work at State Farm in Barnesville. She was a member of East Thomaston Baptist Church.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Thomas Alton Childree, sister, Darande Holsenbeck, daughter, Barbette Childree.

Mrs. Ellerbee was born July 11, 1925, in Randolph County, to the late Leburs and Fannie Mae Scoggins Strain. She retired from Troop County High School as a Cook.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Curtis Ellerbee. Survivors are her daughter, Brenda (Mike) Stone of Monroe GA; 4 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

MR. LARRY GENE BLOUNT

 Mr. Larry Gene Blount, age 75, of Thomaston, died on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Blount was born on December 14, 1945, in Thomaston, to the late James Carlton Blount, and the late Grace Lee Lawrence Blount.  He served is country in the U.S. Marine Corp in Vietnam, and was a member of Clark's Chapel Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, and sisters, Collene Hood, and Marie Daniel.

MRS, BRENDA KAY HARRIS

 Mrs. Brenda Kay Harris age 68 of Thomaston Ga, passed away Tuesday December 15, 2020 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Harris was born on December 23, 1951, in Upson County, Georgia, to the late James Etheridge Welch and the late Willie Lou Harbuck Welch.  She retired from Upson Regional Medical Center as a Medical Transcriptionist with 44 years of service, and was a member of Clark's Chapel Baptist Church.  She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, James, Donald and Warren Welch, sisters, Mary Lou Gibbs and Martha Jean Metcalf.

Survivors include her husband, Cal Harris, daughters, Michelle Padovani of Hampton, Melanie Harris of Thomaston, brother, Gordon (Audrey) Welch of Thomaston, sister, Irma (Harry) Jennings of Tallahassee, Florida, grandchildren, Calli Fulcher, Kymbl Fulcher, Autumn Padovani, Brynli Martin, Abrym Martin, Tatum Padovani, and great-grandchild, Alijah Puckett.

CAROLE FAYE NORRIS MARTIN

 Carole Faye Norris Martin was born March 28, 1942 in Thomaston Georgia to

Mary Frances Sanford Norris and Paul Claxton Norris and died December 14,
2020 (also in Thomaston).  Carole's devotion to family and her belief in God
sustained her during her struggle with lung cancer.

Carole's funeral will be held in the Fletcher-Day Funeral Home Chapel on
Friday, December 18, at 12:00 Noon with Rev. Ted Kandler officiating. A
private family interment will follow the service in South View Cemetery and
the family will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Friday from
11:00 until 12:00 Noon.   Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic the family
respectfully asks that masks be worn and that social distancing be observed
at all services. The funeral service for Carole will be live streamed to the
Fletcher-Day Funeral Home Facebook Page beginning at 12 Noon.

MR. WILBUR "LEE" MORRIS

 Mr. Wilbur “Lee” Morris, age 83, of The Rock Ga, died Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at Riverside Nursing Home.

Mr. Morris was born on October 10, 1937 in Rochelle, Georgia, to the late Robert Morris, and the late Pearl Rhodes Morris.  He worked as a Claims Rep at Crawford & Co. Insurance, Moore Chevrolet and also the Martha Mills.  Mr. Lee was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, and the Mason Piedmont Lodge #447.  He served his country for six years in the U.S. Army as a MP.  He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mrs. Martha Warren Morris, and his brother, Lewis Morris.

Survivors include his daughter, Lynn (Alan) Wainwright of Thomaston, son, Douglas Lee (Shirley) Morris of Thomaston, sisters, Nancy (Dr. Johnny) King of Rochelle, GA, Lou (Dan) Nobles of Jacksonville FL, sister-in-law, Cathy Morris of Columbia, SC, grandchildren, Jennifer (Daniel) Whitmire, and Chelsey Wainwright.

Private funeral services will be held on Friday with burial to follow, due to Covid-19.  Mr. Lee Morris will lie in state from 9:00 a.m.- 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2020 and from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. on Friday, December 11, 2020 at Coggins Funeral Home.

 Mr. Scott Dwayne Grady, age 57, of Thomaston, died Monday, December 7, 2020 at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin.

MRS. BETTY ELAINE KENNEDY

Mrs. Betty Elaine Kennedy, age 81, of Thomaston, died Monday, December 7, 2020, at her residence.

Mrs. Kennedy was born on November 27,1939 in Upson County, Georgia, to the late William Allen Pitts and the late Lillie Bell Ellerbee Pitts. She worked for DOT, Right a Way Division for 33 years, was a member of the Red Hat Club, Homemaker's Club, and Shiloh Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Allyne Hightower.

Survivors include her husband, Luke Kennedy, daughter, Debby Lynn (Brian) Anderson of Griffin, son Rex (Karen) Kennedy of Thomaston, sister, Carol (Eddie) Mastin of Five Points Alabama, grandchildren, Katy Presley, Christian Watson, Camille Anderson, and four great-grandchildren.

MR. HAROLD HARDAGE

Harold Hardage, age 90, of Colquitt, GA passed away Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020 at his residence.

A private graveside service for Mr. Hardage will be held at Upson Memorial Gardens in Thomaston, GA on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2020 with Rev. Scott Messer officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorial contributions be made to The First Church of the Nazarene Music Department PO Box 446 Donalsonville, GA 39845.

Mr. Hardage was born in Yatesville, GA on April 3, 1930 to L.H. Hardage, Sr. and Ida Mae Corley Hardage. He served his country in the United States Army and retired from Federal Paper Board Company. Mr. Hardage was an avid gardener and loved singing and playing the piano. He had been a member of several singing groups, most notably The Dixie Quartet. Mr. Hardage also loved animals, but most importantly, he loved the Lord and his family.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Toni Hardage of Colquitt, GA; his daughter, Renee Shingler and her husband Ronny of Cedar Springs, GA; his grandchildren, Rachael Holloman and her husband Tommy of Cedar Springs, GA and Dr. Ryan Shingler and his wife Katy of Jakin, GA; and his great grandchildren, Emma and Aubrey Holloman and Reed and Avery Shingler. Mr. Hardage is also survived by his stepchildren, Jackie Broome and her husband Brantley of Donalsonville, GA and Wendy Stone of Dallas, TX, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hardage was preceded in death by his parents, L.H. Hardage, Sr. and Ida Mae Corley Hardage; Runell Helms Hardage; and his siblings.

MRS. JEAN S. COCHRAN

Mrs. Jean S. Cochran, 83, of Thomaston, died Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services for Mrs. Cochran will be held on Friday, December 4, 2020 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Barber officiating. Burial will follow in South View Cemetery. 

The family of Mrs. Cochran will receive friends at the church in Building C on Friday from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour.

Mrs. Cochran was born in Roberta on October 1, 1937, a daughter of the late William and Gladys Gassett Stalnaker. She was a graduate of Crawford County High School and later attended the Marsh Business College, graduating in 1957.

Mrs. Cochran was a former resident of Atlanta, Memphis, TN, and Birmingham, AL. She married her husband, Robert G. Cochran in 1957 and they moved to Thomaston in 1961. Mrs. Cochran joined the First Baptist Church in 1961. She was active in the life of the church served as a volunteer in various ministries in the church, most notably the Prayer Ministry.

Mrs. Cochran is survived by her husband, Robert G. "Bob" Cochran; her daughter, Susan Cochran of Woodstock; a sister, Peggy S. (Jack) Warner of
Morganton; a niece, Dr. Genny Warner of Ashville, NC; a sister-in-law, Betty Cochran of Culloden; nieces, Donna (Vic) Ruffin and Kathy (Ron) Richardson, and a nephew, Mike (Gloria) Cochran, all of Barnesville; and a cousin, Cynthia Dasher of Centralia, MO.

MR. NORMAN DONALD SUTCH SR.

Mr. Norman Donald Sutch Sr. age 80 of Thomaston Ga, passed away Tuesday December 1, 2020 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Sutch was born on October 29, 1940 in Los Angeles, California to the late Frank Sutch and the late Emily Bauman Sutch. He graduated with a Master's Degree and worked as an Engineer at Rockwell in California, and served his country in the U.S. Navy. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter.

Survivors include his son, Danny Sutch, sister, Marium and friends, Sandra Pharris and Bobby Dorming.

MRS. MARIA SILVINA VENDRELL HOLLAND

Mrs. Maria Silvina Vendrell Holland age 74 of Thomaston Ga, passed away Wednesday December 2, 2020 at Riverside Health and Rehab.

Mrs. Holland was born on September 8, 1946 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to the late James Vendrell and the late Lidia Viggiolo Vendrell. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Peter the Rock Catholic Church. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Virginia Vendrell.

Survivors include her husband, Jerry Holland of Thomaston, daughter, Lidia (Chris) Oglesby of Thomaston, son, James (Angela) Holland of Greensboro, NC, brother, Alex (Jean) Vendrell of Shipman, MS, grandchildren, Morgan (Luke) Mangrum, Lauren Oglesby, Tyler Holland, and Andrew Holland.

The family will have a memorial service at a later date.
