MRS. MARY EVELYN STEPHENS HUFF

Mrs. Mary Evelyn Stephens Huff age 95 of Thomaston Ga, died Saturday January 27, 2018 at Riverside Health and Rehab. 

Mrs. Huff was born on August 24, 1922 in Lahunta Colorado to the late Oscar Stephens and the late lat Annie Ruth Kinsey Stephens. She was a graduate of Piedmont College and taught school for 27 years. Mrs. Huff was a member of Flint River Primitive Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband John Huff, sisters Mrs. Flora Coffee, Mrs. Doris Powell, grandson Mr. Johnathan Huff.

Survivors include her daughter Ms. Camille Stolp of Cornelia Ga, son Mr. Ozzie (Jackie) Huff of Thomaston Ga, 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren.

Graveside Services will be held on Saturday February 3, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in Yonah Memorial Gardens in Demorest Ga.

MRS. CLARA JEANETTE KILBY HUNT

Mrs. Clara Jeanette Kilby Hunt age 80 of Thomaston Ga, died Thursday January 25, 2018 at her residence. 

Mrs. Hunt was born on June 28, 1937 in Thomaston Ga, to the late Willard Kilby and the late Mary Louise Roberts Kilby. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Hunt was a member of Elkins Creek Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband John Wesley Hunt Sr.

Survivors include her daughter Mrs. Karen H. Herron of Thomaston Ga, sons Dr. John Wesley (Sheila) Hunt Jr., of Thomaston Ga, Mr. Mark D. (Brittany) Hunt of Thomaston Ga, sister Mrs. Mary Noster of Thomaston Ga, 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday January 28, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Coggins Funeral Home on Saturday January 27, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

MS. SUSAN PATRICIA RITCH

Ms. Susan Patricia Ritch age 58 of Thomaston Ga, died Thursday January 25, 2018 at Upson Regional Medical Center. 

Ms. Ritch was born on December 26, 1959 in Providence Rhode Island to the late Kenneth M. Ritch Sr., and the late Jeannette LaRocque Ritch. She worked for Spalding Regional Hospital and Sylvan Grove Hospital for many years. Ms. Ritch was a member of St. Peter The Rock Catholic Church. In addition to her her parents she was preceded in death by her sister in law Holly K. Ritch, nephew Jarred Ritch.

Survivors include her brothers Mr. David Paul (Rebecca Marie) Ritch of Thomaston Ga, Mr. Kenneth M. (Lynette) Ritch of Concord Ga, Mr. Randall Charles Ritch of Eustis Fl, nieces and nephews David P. Ritch Jr, Jeanette C. Ritch, Giada M. Ritch, Lydia Anne Ritch, Conner Q. Ritch, Nathan Ritch, Sarah J. Ritch, Cecely Clare Ritch.

Mr. David S. Wainwright, 67 of Barnesville, GA  died January 20, 2018 at his residence. 

Funeral services will be Thursday January 25, 2018 2:00 PM at Coggins Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Southview Cemetery.

Mr. Wainwright was born March 30, 1950 to the late Junior Shelton and Lora Dale Bloodworth Wainwright.
He was retired from Nationwide Southeast Transporters.

Mr. Wainwright was preceded in death by his wife Debbie Burdette Wainwright and his daughter, Tina Lynn Wainwright.

Survivors include his son, David Wainwright, Jr. and his wife Bridget of McDonough, GA , brother, Donnie Wainwright and his wife Sandy of Thomaston, 1 grandchild, Hunter Woodie.

MR. CAREY BYRON ELLERBEE

Mr. Carey Byron Ellerbee, age 60, of Thomaston, died Thursday, January 18, 2018, in Moreland GA.

Mr. Ellerbee was born May 16, 1957, in Upson County to the late George Byron and Inez Hamlett Ellerbee. He was a Truck Driver for the Georgia Department of Transportation, Chairman of the Board of Deacons at Hendricks Baptist Church, and Veteran of the U.S. Navy having served on the USS Saipan during the Vietnam Conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Tracy Ellerbee; daughter, Casey Ellerbee; son, Carson Ellerbee; like a son, Brandon Maddox; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Helen and Bobby Edmondson; sister, Kay Darsey; grandchildren, Kyia Ellerbee, Jaci Taylor, and Charlee Kate Ellerbee. He is preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Grace; and brothers, Mickey and David Ellerbee. 

Graveside services for Mr. Ellerbee will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at 11:00 AM in Hendricks Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Coggins Funeral Home.

MR. GARY RADFORD PORTER

Mr. Gary Radford Porter, 81 of Thomaston, GA died January 20, 2018 at his residence.

Funeral services will be Wednesday January 24, 2018 2:00 PM at First Assembly of God in Thomaston. Burial will follow in Upson Memorial Gardens with military honors.

The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church.

A native of Swainsboro, GA, Mr. Porter was born to the late James Radford and Minnie Evelyn Lockhart Porter. He was served in the United States Air Force during Korea, and was retired from the Federal Department of Justice in Florida. Mr. Porter was also a member of First Assembly of God  in Thomaston.  

Mr. Porter was preceded in death by his sisters, Barbara Jean Stribling and Patricia Ann Lowe.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Porter of Thomaston, daughter, Laura Barrera (Manuel) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, sons, Clayton Dale Porter (Jeanette) of Denver, CO, Clifford J. Porter (Julie) of Powder Springs, GA and Patrick Hazzard (Charlene) of Miami, FL, brother, James Radford (Dotie) of Jackson, GA, 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hunter was born December 5, 1933 in Thomaston  to the late Roswell and Lucille Cox Williams. She was a member of Silvertown Baptist Church and retired with 28 years of service from Martha Mills.

MR. MACK BENJAMIN HOBBS

Mr. Mack Benjamin Hobbs, age 82, of Thomaston Ga, died Thursday, January 18, 2018, at Upson Regional Medical Center. 

Mr. Hobbs was born May 16, 1935, in Schley County Ga to the late Burrie Lee and Mary Lucille Cochran Hobbs. He retired from the B.F. Goodrich's Martha Mills with over 44 years of service, and was a member of Clark's Chapel Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Regina Hobbs Knight; son, Robbie Mack Hobbs; brothers, Robert Hobbs, Larry Hobbs, and Billy Hobbs. Survivors are his wife, Betty Hobbs; sister, Emma Lura Hobbs; brother, Willie Boyd Hobbs; son-in-law, Don Knight; grandchildren, Niki (Grant) Kelly and Brianna Knight; great-grandchild, Jade Kelly.

Funeral services for Mr. Hobbs will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at 4:00 PM in the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Upson Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Emory Leroy Rickerson Sr. age 82 of Meansville Ga, died Thursday January 18, 2018 at Upson Regional Medical Center. 

Mr. Rickerson was born on February 3, 1935 in Barnesville Ga, to the late Porter Rickerson and the late Mary Stallings Rickerson. He worked as a newspaper printer for many years. Mr. Rickerson served his country in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his daughter Wanda (O.F.) Salter of Albany Ga, son Rick Rickerson of Meansville Ga, 6 Grandchildren, 5 Great Grandchildren.

MR. CECIL E. HANEY

Mr. Cecil E Haney, 80, of Thomaston, died Monday, January 15, 2018 at
Brightmoor Hospice.
Funeral services for Mr. Haney will be held Thursday, January 18th, 2018 at
2:00 PM at East Thomaston Baptist Church with Rev. Joey Smith officiating.
Burial will follow in Upson Memorial Gardens. The family of Mr. Haney will
receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7:00 until
9:00 PM.
Mr. Haney was born in Thomaston on July 16th, 1937, son of the late John
Billy and Beatrice Ward Haney. He was a retired salesman for Talladega
Supply and was a member of the Morningstar Lodge #27, Free and Accepted
Masons.
Mr. Haney was a long-time member of East Thomaston Baptist Church where he
served as a Deacon.
He is survived by two sons, Robert (Clair) Haney of Thomaston and Greg
(Phoebe) Haney of Columbus; and two grandchildren, Becca Haney and Luke
Haney, both of Thomaston. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca
Hood Haney in 2012.

THOMASTON ATTORNEY BEN SMITH

Mr. Benjamin "Ben" Terry Smith JR., age 82, of Thomaston, died Monday, January 15, 2018, at the Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. smith was born Easter Sunday, April 21, 1935, in Atlanta to the late Eleanor Jane King Smith and Benjamin Terry Smith Sr. He attended The Lovett school, East Rivers, Morris Brandon Elementary, Culver Military Academy Indiana (member of the Polo Team and Black Horse Troop) and graduated in 1953; BBA at UGA in 1957; Emory Law School; admitted to the Georgia Bar in 1960, and practiced law in Atlanta and Thomaston; Past President of Griffin Judicial Circuit Bar Association; served in the Georgia Air National Guard as  Staff Sergeant and was awarded the American Spirit Honor Medal during basic training at Sehppard Air Base and received and Honorable Discharge in 1966; and was President of the Mid-Georgia Cattlemen's Association. He managed the family's Windsweep Farm, raised registered Champion Polled Hereford Cattle and homing pigeons. Was a member of the Thomaston First Methodist Church, Sunday school teacher, and member of the Golden Age Men's Club.  He was a former member of the Cathedral of St Philip in Atlanta; founding member of the Atlanta Polo Club; and member of the Piedmont Driving Club.

He is survived by his wife, Katharine Hill Smith formerly of Augusta Ga, whom he married in 1957; daughter, Susan Catherine Smith of Los Angels CA; sons, Benjamin "Terry" (Amy) Smith III of Yatesville and Richard King (Allison) Smith of Johnson City TN; sister, Eleanor Jane Smith Lee of Gainesville GA; grandchildren, Savannah H. Smith, Benjamin T. Smith IV, Ella Hix, David Hix, Logan Smith, and Tristan Smith. 


Memorial services will be Friday January 19, 2018 1:00 PM at First United Methodist Church. The Family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary.

Mrs. Chatfield was born on November 14, 1927 in Greensboro Ga, to the late Zebadee Adams and the late Edna Cheek Adams. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Chatfield was a member of Yatesville Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband John Lewis Chatfield, daughter Dianne Allen, son Michael Chatfield.

Survivors include her daughter Janice Crook of Yatesville Ga, sons Steven (Josie) Chatfield of Troy IL, Edward (Vicki) Chatfield of Yatesville Ga, 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren.

He served in the United States Army and was retired from Pratt & Whitney as an Engineer with 30 plus years of service. Mr. Lewis was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Thomaston and enjoyed wood working.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Lewis of Meansville, daughter, Patricia L. Brandine of Royal Palm Beach, FL, son, Richard E. Lewis (Matthew Gotwalt) of Mountville, PA, grandchildren, Chase and Taylor Brandine, numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Wade was born on April 15, 1942 in Thomaston Ga, to the late Walton L. Wade and the late Velvia Head Wade. He was formerly employed with J.C. Penny where he worked for 23 years. In addition to his parents Mr. Wade was preceded in death by his daughter Darlene Wade, son Jerry Wade Jr., sister Betty Wade Pasley.

Mrs. Mary Alice Jimmerson Barfoot, age 94, of Thomaston Ga, died Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at her residence. 

Mrs. Barfoot was born on October 5, 1923 in Thomaston Ga, to the late Warren A. Jimmerson and the late Cora Peugh Jimmerson. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Barfoot was a member of The Baptist Tabernacle. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband George M. Barfoot, brother Peugh Jimmerson, sisters Louciele  McGouirk, Gladys Jimmerson, Maire Jimmerson, Salley Ellington.

MR. DONALD EUGENE HOLLEY

Mr. Donald Eugene Holley, age 78, of Thomaston, GA, died Sunday, January 7, 2018, at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon. 

Mr. Holley was born in Upson County to the late Roy Silvester and Annie Eliza Holley. He retired from AT&T with over 27 years of service and was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Holley of Thomaston; daughter, Neca Holley and son-in-law, Bob Tilley both of Thomaston; sister, Bobbie Bradshaw of Thomaston; and brother, Drew (Simonne) Holley of Woodstock GA. 

Funeral services for Mr. Holley will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Valley Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Coggins Funeral Home.

MR. WILLIE ROBERT STRIBLING

Mr. Willie Robert Stribling age 86 of Molena Ga, died Monday January 1, 2018 at Upson Regional Medical Center. 

Mr. Stribling was born on October 29, 1931 in Pike County Ga, to the late Inus Stribling and the late Miriam Bridges Stribling.  He worked as Postmaster for the Molena Post Office for many years. Mr. Stribling was a Mason and served his country in the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Miriam Huffman Stribling and step son Tommy O'Neal.

Survivors include his son Mr. Robert "Bobby" (Dawn) Stribling of Martinez Ga, step daughters Mrs. Peggy (Robert) Byers of Blairsville Ga, Ms. Linda Stribling of Atlanta Ga, special friend Mrs. Margaret Perkins of Griffin Ga, grandchildren Logan Stribling, Audrey Stribling, Abigail Stribling, step grandchildren Loriann, Melissa, Tony, Joe, Lance & Jennifer, Several Step Great Grandchildren and Several Great Great Grandchildren also survive.
