MRS. CECILIA BOYD, 94

Mrs. Cecilia Boyd, age 94, of Colloden GA, died Monday, May 28, 2018, at the Columbus Specialty Hospital.

Mrs. Boyd was born August 12, 1923, in Frankeneck/Weinstr Germany, to the late Jacob and Elizabeth Caroline Leidner. She was owner operator of Flint Side Restaurant, in Thomaston; Rathskellar Restaurant, Brocks Cafe, and Cecilia's Green Bar, in Columbus. She was of the Catholic religion. People said "Once you met her, you never forgot her".

She is survived by her husband, Retired Command Sergeant Major, Fort Benning GA, Jess Boyd, to whom she was married for 60 years; daughter, Ilona Host; grandson, Scott W. Davis; great-grandchildren, Scott W. Davis Jr, Joanne Davis Hanney, and Alex Aleman; and great-great-grandchild, Stefan Hanney.

Private entombment services will be held at a later date.

Mr. Robert Stephen Supple, age 74, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at the Upson Regional Medical Center.

MRS. EUNICE V. DUKES

Mrs. Eunice V. Dukes, age 88, of Thomaston, died Wednesday, May 23, 2018, at her residence.

Funeral services will be Saturday May 26, 2018 11:00 AM at the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery.

She was born October 13, 1929 in Miami, FL to the late Claude Duval and Beulah Viola Duffie Kerney. Mrs. Dukes was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and was employed with Westwood Christian Academy.

Mrs. Dukes was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Monroe Kerney and sister, Kathryn Gerger.

Survivors include her daughters, Donna Rider and her husband Dennis of Alabama, Cynthia Freeman and her husband Jessie of Thomaston, Tommie Jo Murphy of Thomaston, Patricia Hockman and her husband Lenny of Thomaston and Brenda Skurja and her husband Tom of Thomaston, sons, Richard Dukes and his wife Peggy of Florida and George Dukes and his wife Diane of North Carolina, 14 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday May 25, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Coggins Funeral Home.

MRS. INA BELLE W. HAMMOCK

Mrs. Ina Belle W. Hammock, 85, of Thomaston, died Saturday, May 19th, 2018
at Harborview Health Care.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hammock will be held on Monday, May 21st, 2018 at
2:00 PM in the Chapel of the Fletcher-Day Funeral Home with Rev. Brent
Willis officiating. Burial will follow in Upson Memorial Gardens. The
family of Mrs. Hammock will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on
Monday from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour.
Mrs. Hammock was born on June 2nd, 1932 in Tallahassee, FL, a daughter of
the late Jim Augustus and Alice McCorkle Wheeler. She had lived in
Thomaston since the age of six.
Mrs. Hammock was employed for many years as a pre-school assistant at Lu's
Learning Center. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Upson
Regional Medical Center Auxiliary.
Mrs. Hammock is survived by her daughter, Kristi H. (Criss) McAbee of
Thomaston; her son, David Hammock of Kennesaw; six grandchildren, Abby
McAbee (Nathan) McClure of North Augusta, SC, John C. McAbee of Tuscaloosa,
AL, and Matthew Hammock, Jacob Hammock, Reagan Hammock, and Lilianna
Hammock, all of Kennesaw; and two great grandchildren, Calleigh Jane McClure
and Bentley Austin McClure.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Edward Hammock.

MR. RALPH AUGUSTA ELLINGTON, AGE 66

Mr. Ralph Augusta Ellington age 66 of Thomaston Ga, died Saturday May 19, 2018 at The Medical Center of Central Georgia. 

Mr. Ellington was born on February 5, 1952 in Thomaston Ga, to the late Ralph Augusta Ellington Sr., and the late Voncille Salter Fowler. He was formerly employed with Windstream where he worked as Regional Manager for many years. He served as an Upson County Commissioner for 6 years. Mr. Ellington served as Chairman of the Thomaston Upson Chamber of Commerce, and was on the board of directors at Flint River Technical College and co founded Northside Volunteer Fire Department.He was active in other civic organizations as well. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his step son Jonathan McCarty.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Becky Ellington of Thomaston Ga, daughter Mrs. Jami (Shane) Samples of Yatesville Ga, son Mr. Josh (Sarah) Ellington of The Rock Ga, step son Mr. Jamie (Brynn) Gibson of Meansville Ga. brother Mr. Eddie (Nancy Lowry) Fowler of Thomaston Ga, sister Ms. Donna Howard of Thomaston Ga, Mrs. Rahyne (Richard) Owenby of Villa Rica Ga, niece Misty Conway. 7 Grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday May 23, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. from Northridge Church. Burial will follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Coggins Funeral Home on Tuesday May 22, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

MRS. LOIS JACQUELINE CHILDERS

Mrs. Lois Jacqueline “Jackie” Childers, of Thomaston, Georgia, age 83, died May 21, 2018 at Riverside Health and Rehab. 

Mrs. Childers was born June 24, 1934, in Jasper County MO. She was owner operator of South Pork BBQ, and member of Thomaston First Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Childers. Survivors are her daughter, Pam Stevens of Seattle WA; sons, Larry (Carrie) Bash of Thomaston, Terry (Joan) Bash of Sacramento CA; Tom Stephens of Seattle WA, and Randy (Lisa) Stephens of Thomaston. 

Funeral services for Mrs. Childers will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 26, 2018, from 12:00 - 2:00 PM.

Mrs. Patricia Ann Scruggs English age 76 of Thomaston Ga, died Thursday May 17, 2018 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. English was born on December 22, 1941 in Thomaston Ga, to the late Clarence Scruggs and the late Gladys Poteat Scruggs. She owned and operated Armchair Video. Mrs. English was a member of Thomaston First Assembly of God. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Thomas Perry English.

Survivors include her daughter Dedra (David Mann) English of Thomaston Ga, sons David (Janice) English of Jacksonville Fl, Donald (Katrina) English of Thomaston Ga, grandchildren Corey (Kitt) English, Taylor English, Casey English, Kyndal Mann.

Mr.  George Douglas Lord 66, of Thomaston Ga, died Thursday May 10, 2018 at his residence. 

Mr. Lord was born on December 18, 1951 in Macon Ga, to the late George Washington Lord and the late Lucile Bryant Lord. He worked for Thomaston Mills in the piece goods department for 20 years. Mr. Lord was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.

Survivors include his brother Mr. Gary (Carla) Lord of Thomaston Ga, nephew Mr. Matt (Amy) Lord of Meansville Ga, great nephew Zachary Lord of Meansville Ga.

Mrs. Frances Oliver Phillips age 85 of Meansville Ga, died Friday May 4, 2018 at Providence Health and Rehab. 

Mrs. Phillips was born on July 15, 1932 in Meansville Ga, to the late Virgil M. Oliver and the late Clora Bell Oliver. She worked for Martha Mills for many years. Mrs. Phillips was a member of Rehoboth Church of the Nazarene in Molena. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her children Dale Phillips, Debbie Martin Jones, Starling Michael Martin, Billy D. Martin, several siblings also precede her in death.

Survivors include her husband Mr. Henry Phillips of Meansville Ga, son Mr. Terry Phillips of Meansville Ga, sister in law Mrs. Bertha Oliver of Va, 5 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild.

Mr. Wayne James Blackmon age 67 of Thomaston Ga, died Thursday May 3, 2018 at Brightmoor Hospice.

Mr. Blackmon was born on November 29, 1950 in Thomaston Ga, to the late James Blackmon and the late Carolyn Powers Blackmon. He was formerly employed with The Georgia Department of Transportation where he worked as a mechanic until his retirement. Mr. Blackmon was a member of Clark's Chapel Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers Mark Blackmon, Chris Blackmon, sister Diane Joiner.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Brenda Wood Blackmon of Thomaston Ga, daughters Mrs. Michele (Kevin) Strom of Thomaston Ga, Mrs. Jessica (Todd) Willis of Thomaston Ga, brothers Mr. Carlton (Linda) Blackmon of Thomaston Ga, Mr. Randy (Denise) Blackmon of Thomaston Ga, grandchildren Dalton Strom, Noah Strom, Jake Willis, Luke Willis, Kyle Willis.

MRS. MARGARET BRANSFORD WOODSON

Mrs. Margaret Bransford Woodson age 101 of Thomaston Ga, died Thursday May 3, 2018 at Riverside Health and Rehab. 

Mrs. Woodson was born on May 9, 1916 in Griffin Ga, to the late Noah Rush Dingler and the late Frances Blackman Dingler. She worked for the William Carter Company as a seamstress for 25 years. Mrs. Woodson was preceded in death by her husbands Carl Bransford, Hershel Woodson, daughter Jeanette Howard, great great grandchild Kendall Temples. She was a member of Clark's Chapel Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughters Mrs. Carleen Reeves of Thomaston Ga, Ms. Sandra Bransford of Thomaston Ga, sister Mrs. Mildred Helms of Griffin Ga, 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren.

Mrs. Le Anne C. Oglesby age 45 of Meansville Ga, died Wednesday May 2, 2018 at her residence. 
Funeral services will be Saturday May 12, 2018 2:00 PM at The Gathering Church in Thomaston. Interment will follow in Southview Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at The Gathering Church.

Mrs. Oglesby was born July 10, 1972 in Selma, AL to John Simmons and Kathryn VanDyke.  She attended The Gathering Church in Thomaston. Before moving to Meansville, GA  she was a school psychologist with the Houston, TX public school system.

Survivors include her husband, Bryan Oglesby of Meansville, daughter, Riley Owens of Meansville, stepchildren, Janna, Will, Oliver and Kason Oglesby, sister, Maggie Boyd (Nick) of Austin, TX, stepmothers, Dee Todd-Simmons of Houston, TX and Patty Simmons of Austin, TX, mother-in-law, Pat Reece (Larry) of Woodland, nephews, Teddy and Knox Boyd.
