Harleigh Nicole Alverson

Harleigh Nicole Alverson, age 30, of Thomaston, died, Monday, March 21, 2022, at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Harleigh was born on November 15, 1991, in Thomaston, to Roger Alverson and Connie Rutherford Alverson. She was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church.

Survivors include her parents, Roger and Connie Alverson of Thomaston, son, Kyler Alverson of Thomaston, sister, Krysten Alverson of Thomaston, aunt, Kathy Rutherford of Thomaston, nephews, Trent Alverson, Tysun Lowe, and several cousins and friends.

The family will have a memorial service at a later date.

Gary "Whitt" Whittington

Gary "Whitt" Whittington age 76 moved to his new permanent residence on Thursday March 17, 2022 to be with our Lord Jesus Christ. Whitt was born in Stephens County, Ga. Whitt graduated from R.E. Lee Institute in Thomaston and then later served his country in the U.S. Army with the 24th Infantry Division. He retired from the U.S. Federal Government as a facilities engineer with 33 years of service and liked to be called a "government mule."

Whitt was an expert in firearms and enjoyed hunting and trapping in his earlier years. Upon his retirement Whitt moved to his beloved Blue Ridge Mountains of East Tennessee. Whitt was a 32nd degree Shriner- Knoxville, Tennessee, Master Mason of Reliance Tennessee lodge. He was also a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans. Whitt was a servant of Jesus Christ and a member of Springtown Baptist Church in Reliance, Tennessee.

Whitt is survived by one daughter, Michele Whittington Cofer and one grandson Tobin Lee Cofer of Molena. He is also survived by a sister Bobbie Whittington of Charleston S.C, and one brother Michael Whittington of Bellevue, Washington. He was married for 13 years to the former Lynn McRae Tucker of Thomaston. He was preceded in death by his mother Gladys Davis Whittington, his brother James Whitt, and his sister Dianne Lawson.

Graveside Services will be held on Monday March 21, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. in the Morgan Family Cemetery in Reliance, Tennessee.

Mr. Charles Troy Glanton

Mr. Charles Troy Glanton age 66 of Thomaston, passed away Wednesday March 16, 2022 at The Medical Center of Central Ga.

Mr. Glanton was born on September 28, 1955 in Atlanta, to the late Troy Glanton and the late Louise Kendrick Peace. He worked for Standard Textiles in the Maintenance Department for many years. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother Milton "Doodle" Glanton.

Survivors include his wife Tammy Glanton of Thomaston, daughters Michelle (Randy) Thigpen of Thomaston, April Ledbetter (Rocky Anderson) of Thomaston, Heather (Damon) Canady of The Rock, sister Diane (Jerry) Pittman of McDonough, 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren.

Graveside Services will be held on Sunday March 20, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. in Crystal Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Linda Ann Allen Reese

Mrs. Linda Ann Allen Reese, age 69, of Molena, passed away March 15, 2022. She was born in Douglas, GA, daughter of the late Lester Joe Allen and Barbara Ann Hansard Allen. In her early years, Linda worked as a bookkeeper. As her children grew, she became a homemaker, taking them to their activities and events. She was very organized and frugal. She enjoyed reading, antiquing, budgeting, and clipping coupons. Linda was devoted to her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Thomas “Tommy” Floyd Reese, Jr., and her brother, Paul Edward Allen.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Kevin and Candice Reese; daughter and son-in-law: Jennifer and Mike Wallis; grandchildren: Natalie Reese, Garrett Wallis, Brooke Wallis, and Cassidy Reese; sister and brother-in-law: Pam and Ronnie Taylor of Fayetteville; sister-in-law: Kay Allen of Tucker; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., in Mt. Olive Baptist Church Cemetery, 1177 GA 109, Molena. Pastor Ken Horton will officiate.

Friends may visit the family from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the graveside.

Mrs. Sharon Elizabeth McGoey Roebuck

Mrs. Sharon Elizabeth McGoey Roebuck, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at her home on March 12, 2022, surrounded by many who loved her. Born November 3, 1957, in New Rochelle, New York, Sharon had made Georgia her home for decades.

She worked as a Certified Mental Health Peer Specialist at River Edge Behavioral Health in Forsyth for several years. She was an active member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, a people person and a witness for the Lord.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas McGoey and Phyllis Case McGoey and her husband, William “Bill” Roebuck.

She is survived by her step-daughter: Emily Rector (Alexander) of Chicago, IL; brothers: Michael McGoey (Dawn) of Lake Norman, NC and Patrick McGoey (Hanna) of Boca Raton, FL; uncle: Gordon Case (Jeanne) of Los Gatos, CA; cousins: Kathy Youngclaus and Debbie Chambers; many close friends, her Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Family, and her beloved dogs: Cara and O’Reilly.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at 4 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with Dr. Shannon Gordy and Pastor Fred Thompson officiating. There will be a time of visitation for friends and family after the service at the funeral home.

Mr. David Wayne Newton

Mr. David Wayne Newton, age 63, of Meansville, passed away March 11, 2022, at his home. He was born in Del Rio, TX, son of the late William Ralph Newton and Jacqueline Elizabeth Day Newton. 

Wayne worked for Atlanta Gas Light for 35 years before retiring in 2019 as a Construction Superintendent. He was a member of The Gathering Church in Thomaston and enjoyed antiquing, fishing, cooking out, and spending time with family and friends. He was a Mason, a member and past Master of Montgomery Lodge #31 in Zebulon, a Shriner and a member of the Griffin Shrine Club. Wayne was always the life of the party.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William “Bill” Newton.

He is survived by his wife: Theresa Salter Newton; children and their spouses: Jessica and Doug Dunn and their daughter Laura of Zebulon and Brandon and Jennifer Thomas of Meansville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Sonny and Pam Salter of Thomaston and their sons and wives Cody and Erica Salter of TN and Daniel and Amy Bette Wright of AL; his Nanny: Alice Salter of Meansville; Jody Newton Sears, her husband and children of Columbus and Jessie Newton and daughter of Thomaston.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 19, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with Pastor Charles Bennett, Pastor Eric Boomer and Chaplain Chris Henson officiating. Burial will follow in Moody Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Samuel Douglas Fowler Jr.

Mr. Samuel Douglas Fowler Jr. age 65, of Griffin, died, Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at Spalding Regional Hospital.

Mr. Fowler was born on January 9, 1957, in Broward, Florida, to the late Samuel Douglas Fowler Sr. and Lillie Stoner. He worked for DOT in Thomaston and was a member of Christ Chapel. He is preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife, Rhonda Chappell Fowler of Griffin, mother, Lillie Stoner of Thomaston, sons, Sam (Stephanie) Fowler of Thomaston, Cole (Connie) Fowler of Lovejoy, Jordan (Chassity) Fowler of Sommerville, Georgia, Tyler (Robin) Edwards of Griffin, Cody Edwards of Griffin, brother, Steve Fowler of Thomaston, sisters, Cindy (Junior) Waits of Flovilla, Vicki White of Thomaston, Terry (Joe) Phillips of Cherokee, North Carolina, grandchildren, Legend, Justina, trey, Baylee, Stacy, Kaylee, Joseph, Casey, great-grandchildren, Lyric, Luna and best four legged friend, Paco.

Mrs. Carleen Selph Hannah

Mrs. Carleen Selph Hannah, 88, of Thomaston, died Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at Heritage Inn and Rehab, Barnesville. 

Funeral services for Mrs. Hannah will be held Sunday, March 13, at 3:00 PM, in the chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Pastor Jereme Chaney will officiate, and interment will follow in Upson Memorial Gardens. 

The family will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home Saturday evening, March 12, from 4:00 - 6:00 PM.

Mrs. Hannah was born April 26, 1933, in Wheeler County, GA, to the late Nolan and Ophelia Purvis Selph. She was the owner/operator of Merrill's Beauty Box for many years. Her hobbies included gardening, reading, fishing, and playing the piano. She always believed in having fun and enjoying life.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hannah was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney Ernest Hannah; a sister, Frances Selph Wheeless; and a brother, Stanley Thomas Selph. 

Survivors include her daughter, Merrill (Bill) Roan, and her son, Steve (Janice) Hannah, both of Thomaston; five grandchildren: Stacey (Gary) Adams, Beth Speelman, Terri (Perry) Conner, Charley (Candice) Roan, and Mary Kate (John) Allen; thirteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Talmadge “Tal” Tyrone Boyt

Mr. Talmadge “Tal” Tyrone Boyt, age 43, of Yatesville, passed away March 8, 2022. He grew up in Thomaston and worked as a heavy equipment operator and a cook at Waffle House. Tal was “happy-go-lucky,” kind-hearted, and generous. He always had an answer for everything, and wanted to make others laugh. Tal was a good man with a big heart and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his daughter: Olivia; mother: Connie Winters of Yatesville; father: Tony Boyt (Net Pham) of Thomaston; brothers: James Boyt (Nalai) and Tommy Winters; nephew and niece: Waylon and Wrenley; PawPaw and MawMaw: Wendal and Brenda Newborn of Thomaston; many uncles, aunts and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 11, 2 p.m., at First Assembly of God Church, 205 W. County Road, Thomaston. Pastor Mickey Corley will officiate.

Mrs. Eva Jo Parrish Pollard

Mrs. Eva Jo Parrish Pollard, age 78, formerly of Thomaston, died, Sunday, March 6, 2022, in Tennessee.

Mrs. Pollard was born on November 3, 1943, in Zebulon, to the late Frank Parrish and the late Nellie Erma Howard Parrish. She retired from Publix grocery store in Vero Beach, Florida, and was a member of Hebron Congregational Christian Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Milton Pollard, brother, Johnny Parrish and sister, Sallie Cochran.

Survivors include her sons, Shane (Kathy) Pollard of Thomaston, Derrick Pollard of Hohenwald, TN, sisters, Cynthia Albritton of Thomaston, Judy (Chuck) Pyron of Hohenwald, TN, Sue Forrester of Hohenwald, TN., grandchildren, Gage Pollard, Jordan Pollard, Nicholas Pollard, great-grandchildren, Bella Pollard, Logan Pollard, Natalie Pollard, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Johnny Lafayette Phillips Jr.

Mr. Johnny Lafayette Phillips Jr. age 74 of The Rock Ga, passed away Tuesday March 8, 2022, at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Phillips was born on August 27, 1947, in Atlanta to the late Johnny Lafayette Phillips Sr. and the late Willie Mae Kidd Phillips. He served his country in the US Navy aboard the USS McCafree, and then went on to work as an Electrician for JACO Services. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Patti Phillips of Thomaston, daughters, Sandra (Jerry) DeLaGarza of Jackson, Jennifer (Jason) Cook of Jackson, Kristy (Richard) Johnston of Thomaston, sisters, Carol (Tommy) Patterson of Hull, GA., Bonnie (Chris) Roberson of Georgia, grandchildren, Austin, Jackson, Gabriel, Chasity, Brady, Joshua, Beau, Emma, Jenna, and great-grandchildren, Calvin and Lilliana.

Mr. Don Paul Ruffin

Mr. Don Paul Ruffin, age 81, of Thomaston, died Sunday, March 6, 2022, at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Ruffin will be held Thursday, March 10, at 11:00 AM, at Valley Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Claude Turner officiating. The family of Mr. Ruffin will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday evening at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home.

Mr. Ruffin was born February 8, 1941, in Thomaston a son of the late Paul E. and Catherine Hazel Watts Ruffin. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy having been stationed aboard the USS Ranger. He was a graduate of Law School, but never practiced as a lawyer. He owned and operated the Middle Georgia Valve and Lift Station Co. from 1982 until 2016. He was also employed by the City of Thomaston Water Department where he retired and the Atlanta Public Schools as an electrician for the City of Atlanta. Mr. Ruffin was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church.

Mr. Ruffin is survived by his daughter, Mary Catherine Ruffin; his brother, Larry Steve (Marsha) Ruffin; his sister, Jolita Rix; his two granddaughters, Theresa “Tera” (Will) Harris and Erica Helms; and his great granddaughter, Jazmine Harris, all of Thomaston. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Ruffin was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Bailey Ruffin, his son, David Todd Ruffin, and his sister, Sylvia Ruffin Crawford.

Mr. Paul Steven Cowley

Mr. Paul Steven Cowley, age 65, of Thomaston, passed away at home on March 5, 2022. Paul’s life changed a year ago when he found the Lord. After that, he devoted his life to serving others and going to church at County Line Christian Church. Paul loved listening to Christian music and was very generous and kind.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elaine Lee Weber and Richard Thomas Burke as well as his brother, Tommy Burke, niece, Jennifer Burke, and nephew, David Burke, Jr.

He is survived by his children: Levi Cowley and Kindyl Cowley; one grandson; a brother and sister-in-law: David and Sherry Burke; two sisters and a brother-in-law: Melanie and Patrick Jackson and Kathleen Gibson; nieces, a nephew and their spouses who loved and adored him: Jessica and Kris Krohn, Amanda and Russell Lynch, Sarah and Zac McLane, Adam and Jaime Jackson, and Caleb Burke; many great-nieces and great-nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at 11 a.m., in Moody Memorial Gardens. Pastor Jake Dukes will officiate.

Mr. Darrell Lee Gresham III

Mr. Darrell Lee Gresham III age 43 of Thomaston Ga, passed away Saturday March 5, 2022 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Gresham was born on October 9, 1978 in Thomaston Ga, to Darrell Lee Gresham Jr, and Shelia Johnson Wilson. He was a member of Neal Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, nieces Kristen & Brittney, aunt Cindy Singletary, uncles Billy Singletary, Eddie Johnson.

Survivors include his father Darrell Lee Gresham Jr, of Zebulon Ga, mother Shelia Wilson of Thomaston Ga, daughter P.J., brother Brian (Karen) Gresham of Thomaston Ga, step brother Chris (Becky) Holloway of Zebulon Ga, sisters Michelle (John) Smith of Thomaston Ga, Ashley (Steven) Bray of Villa Rica Ga, Beth Rowe of Thomaston Ga, grandson Asher, 14 nieces & nephews, 1 great nephew Cooper Hall, and several cousins also survive.

Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday March 8, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. from Neal Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

Mr. William “Bill” Harp

Mr. William “Bill” Harp, age 69, of Thomaston, passed away March 4, 2022. He grew up in Fayetteville, son of the late John Burch Harp, Sr. and Mary Lunsford Harp. Bill was an electrical contractor and for many years he owned and operated his own company, W. E. Harp Electric. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle, cooking and grilling. He especially loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Burch Harp, Jr.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Jennifer and Brandon Thomas of Meansville; granddaughter: Mindy Carlisle of Pike County; fiancé: Sara Moncrief of Thomaston; brothers, a sister and their spouses: Charles Harp of Fayetteville, Patsy and Moody Elliott of Inman, David and Gayle Harp of Fayetteville, and Kenny and Brenda Harp of Hampton; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home. Friends may visit the family on Saturday, 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Danny Lamar Spillers

Mr. Danny Lamar Spillers age 77 of Molena, passed away Friday March 4, 2022 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Spillers was born on November 9, 1944 in Thomaston Ga, to the late Durward Spillers and the late Mittie Cochran Spillers. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force for many years. Mr. Spillers was formerly employed with Tencate where he worked as a line operator until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife Katie Peaden Spillers of Molena Ga, daughter Dana Gross of Rossville Ga, son Danny Scott Spillers of Manchester Ga, brother Mickey Spillers of Andersonville Ga, special niece Tracy Ruffin. 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be held on on Monday March 7, 2022 at 12:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Beverly Cantrell Corley age 75 of Thomaston Ga, passed away Friday March 4, 2022 at Harborview Health and Rehab.

Mrs. Corley was born on July 4, 1946 in Thomaston Ga, to the late Bonnie M. Cantrell and the late Grace Cantrell. She was a homemaker and a member of New Bethel Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Harold Franklin Corley , sister Barbara McLemore, step sons Kenneth Corley, Mark Corley, granddaughter Tara Corley Hollingsworth, grandson Adam Corley.

Survivors include her son Brian (Karla) Corley of Thomaston Ga, step son Bill (Lynn) Corley of Thomaston Ga, 9 grandchildren, several great grandchildren.

Mrs. Joann Johnson Gore

Mrs. Joann Johnson Gore, age 86, of Thomaston, died Thursday evening, March 3, 2022, at her residence.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Gore will be held on Monday, March 7, at 4:00 PM, at First Baptist Church of Thomaston, with Rev. Bill Barber and Rev. Paul Caspers officiating. Interment will follow the service
in South View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Sunday evening, at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home.

Mr. Johnny Frank Adams age 74 of Thomaston Ga, passed away Thursday March 3, 2022 at the Georgia War Veterans Home in Milledgeville Ga.

Mr. Adams was born on January 25, 1948 in Thomaston Ga, to the late John Isaac Adams and the late Laura Juhan Adams. He served his country in the U.S. Navy for 20 years during Vietnam and Desert Storm upon the USS Bennington, USS Enterprise, USS Frank Cable. Mr. Adams worked for Thomaston Mills in the warehouse for many years. He was a member of Clark's Chapel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Avorleen Johnson Adams of Thomaston Ga, daughters Mrs. Belinda (Johnny) Lee of Griffin Ga, Mrs. Cynthia (Greg) Phillips of Thomaston Ga, sons Mr. Jeffery Adams of Az, Mr. John (Roxanne) Adams of Pensacola Fl, sisters Mrs. Estelle Morales of Peachtree City Ga, Mrs. Annette Harris of Houston Tx, 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday March 6, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Coggins Funeral Home on Sunday March 6, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
