FORMER PIKE CO COMMISSIONER JAKE GARNER JR.

 Mr. Onree “Jake” Garner, Jr., age 57, of Griffin, in Pike County, passed away December 30, 2021, at his home. He grew up in Pike County, son of the late Onree Garner, Sr., and Martha Williams Garner. He graduated from Pike County High School in 1982. Jake lived in his family’s home for most of his life. In his early years, he was an automotive mechanic, owning his own garage in Griffin.  For 20+ years, he worked for Spalding County, retiring as Public Works Director. Jake was elected to two terms as a Pike County Commissioner. He was the youngest person to serve as commissioner.

Jake enjoyed coon hunting. He was on the board of directors of Treeing Walker Breeders and Fanciers Association and was President of the Georgia Federation of Coon Hunters.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Amanda Lynn Garner, sisters, Mary Garner and Erma Coleman.

He is survived by his wife: Gena Garner; daughters: Amanda Garner and Abigale Garner; step-son: Trenton Livingston; grandson: Owen Garner; step-grandchildren: Hope Burnfield and husband Cody, Owen Jankowski and Tristen Livingston; sisters: Martha Garner, Verna Jones, Sarah Statham; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 2, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home. Minister Previn Blalock will officiate. Burial will follow in Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery, 2120 Keys Ferry Road, McDonough.

Friends may visit the family on Sunday, January 2, 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., at the funeral home.

JAMES "JAMIE" HAYWARD JOHNSON

James "Jamie" Hayward Johnson, age 42, of Thomaston, died, Thursday, December 30, 2021 at his residence.

 

Jamie was born on May, 19, 1979, in Columbus, Georgia, to James Albert Yancey, and Irma Johnson Holcomb.  He was a member of  the First Baptist Church of Manchester.

 

Survivors include his wife, Amanda Johnson of Thomaston, mother, Irma Holcomb of Manchester, father, James Yancey of Talbotton, daughters, Alexis Yancey of Thomaston, Alexis Johnson of Thomaston, sons, Jacob Johnson of Thomaston, Landen Johnson of Thomaston, sisters, Allison Williams of Woodbury, Anna (Chris) Williams of Woodbury, mother-in-law, Debra Johnson of Thomaston, nieces and nephews, Austin, Helen, Emily, Savanna (Aaron), and Christian.

 

Memorial services will be held on Sunday, January 2, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 2, 2022 from 1:00 p.m.- 2:00 p.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.

MR. BOBBY PALMER DORMINY

 Mr. Bobby Palmer Dorminy, age 69, of Thomaston, passed away December 29, 2021, at Upson Regional Medical Center.  He grew up in the St. Mountain area, son of the late Cicero Palmer Dorminy and Virginia Lucille Brookshire Dorminy.  Bobby worked in the roofing and construction business most of his life.  He enjoyed cutting grass, landscaping projects, fishing and watching Gaither Homecoming videos.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Stiles, brothers, Dennis Dorminy and Danny Dorminy and sister, Brenda Simpson.

He is survived by his daughter: Kayla Dorminy of Thomaston; sister: Linda Barnes of Conyers; niece: Barbara Ingram of Williamson; former wife: Melody Todd of Barnesville; special friends: Ken, Hannah and Liam Todd; many great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Monday, January 3, at 2:00 p.m., in Neal Baptist Church Cemetery in Concord. Pastors Ray Lowe and Keith Bryant will officiate.

MR. RANDALL EDDIE PARKER JR.

 Mr. Randall “Randy” Eddie Parker, Jr., also known as “Pop” or “Big Daddy,” age 59, of Zebulon, passed away December 28, 2021, at his home. He grew up in DeKalb County, son of the late Randall Eddie Parker, Sr. and Edith Elizabeth Gregory Parker. Randy worked as a supervisor of plumbing for Clayton County Board of Education for 32 years. After his retirement, he drove a school bus for Pike County Board of Education.  Randy was an active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Zebulon. He was a ham radio operator and an avid GA Bulldog fan. More than anything, Randy enjoyed being with his family and especially liked spending time with his grandchildren, and bonus grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Wayne Hamilton.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years: Iva Lee Parker; daughter and son-in-law: Jennifer and Ryan Landry of Zebulon; son and daughter-in-law: Randall and Aspen Parker of Meansville; grandchildren: Haley, Austin, Bryson, Hunter, McKaylee, Remi, Tyler, Leah Jane and Holden; sisters and a brother-in-law: Donna Hamilton of McDonough and Deb and Andy Goss of Ashville, NC; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 1, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., in Emmanuel Baptist Church in Zebulon, with Dr. Bud Gleaton officiating. Burial will follow in Moody Memorial Gardens.

Friends may visit the family on Saturday, January 1, 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at the church.

MR. HERSHEL THOMAS HANEY

 Mr. Hershel Thomas Haney, age 85, of Zebulon, passed away December 26, 2021. He was born in Avondale Estates, son of the late Paul Thomas Haney and Lena Estelle Jones Haney.  Hershel was a 10-year veteran of the United States Navy, serving during the Korean Conflict.  He worked in the supply department at Progressive Light in Atlanta and Nolan Electrical in Riverdale. He enjoyed fishing.

In addition to his parents, Hershel was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtice Bailey Haney.

He is survived by his nieces and nephews: Carolyn Williams, Joy Hitt, Buddy Bailey, Ora Lee Williams, Gene Hand, Lewis Haney, Wayne Haney; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at 10:00 a.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home.

MRS. LINDA MERCHANT

 Mrs. Linda Merchant age 67 of Thomaston Ga., passed away Sunday December 26, 2021 at Eternal Hope Hospice in Griffin Ga.

Mrs. Merchant was born on July 10, 1954 in Barnesville to the late William "Red" Littlejohn and the late Myrtice Conkle Littlejohn.  She worked in the Receiving Department at Quad Graphics for 27 years, and was a member of Milner Baptist Church.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Jerri Dawson, sisters, Patricia Wiggins, and Donna Sue Littlejohn.

Survivors include her husband, Johnnie Merchant of Thomaston, adopted son, Jason Leavitt of Wisconsin, brothers, Bennett (Cheryl) Dix, Gary "Dinkey" Littlejohn of Barnesville, John Robert (Yvonne) Littlejohn of Locust Grove, Pete (Rae) Littlejohn of Barnesville, Jessie Littlejohn of Thomaston, sister, Lena (Lucy) Littlejohn, granddaughter, Lindsey (Chris) Robinson, great-granddaughter, Caitleigh Robinson, special niece, Heidi (David) Long, several other great nieces and great nephews, and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

It was Mrs. Merchant's wishes to be cremated, no services are planned at this time.

 Edgar Wayne Taylor, age 71, of Thomaston, passed away December 25, 2021, at Providence Health and Rehab.

MRS. DALLAS ROSE KIRBY WATSON

 Mrs. Dallas Rose Kirby Watson age 81 of Thomaston Ga., passed away Saturday December 25, 2021 at her residence.

Mrs. Watson was born on June 16, 1940 in Clinton Tn, to the late Earl Kirby and the late Mary Powell Cox. She worked for Wes Tek Mill for many years. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her brothers L.A. & Dan Kirby.

Survivors include her husband  William Watson, daughters Donna (Dennis) Fouts, Tracy (Jay) Watson, Crystal (Scott) Collins, sons Dennis (Laura) Watson, Danny (Connie) Watson, brothers David (Peggy) Kirby, Bobby Cox, sisters Janice Hicks, Ann Wells, caregiver Christie Lyons, grandson and special caregiver Brandon Collins, 7 grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren.

MARK ZACHARY BOSTWICK

 Mark Zachary Bostwick, son of the late Glenn Wilmont Bostwick and Mildred Roberta Bostwick was born Wednesday September 23rd, 1959 at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. He grew up with his family in Atlanta. The neighborhoods included Kirkwood, Peachtree Hills, and North Druid Hills. He attended church with his family at The Church at Ponce & Highland (Baptist) in Druid Hills. The most memorable family activities include many fishing trips at Peachtree Creek and primitive camping and fishing at Lake Winfield Scott in Blairsville, Georgia.

In his adult life he worked as a Roofing Foreman on industrial tar roofs. He also did lots of side work as a jack of all trades. He always enjoyed spending fun times with friends.

Mark is survived by sister Theresa Ann Northcutt, brother Tommy Curtis Bostwick, daughter Pricilla Anne Bostwick Czarny, grandchildren Brooklyn Anne Bostwick, Madison Grace Clark and Elliott Anthony Czarny as well as countless other family.

In the early morning of Friday December 17th, 2021 Mark passed away peacefully of natural causes at Upson Regional Medical Center. He is preceded in death by his older brother Phillip W. “Phil” Bostwick (01.21.56-08.24.85) to whom he will be laid to rest beside at Crest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in the Garden of Faith.

 Mr. Bruce A. Coppersmith Sr., age 79, of Thomaston, died Sunday, December 19, 2021 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Coppersmith was born on August 11, 1942, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to the late Anthony Coppersmith, and the late Rita Neiski Coppersmith.  He served his country in the US Navy during the Cold War.  He was a Park Ranger at Sprewell Bluff State Park.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Brian Coppersmith, Paul Coppersmith, Phil Coppersmith, and sister, Ruth Mary Coppersmith.

MRS. LAVENA BENEFIELD SHEPPARD

 Mrs. Lavena Benefield Sheppard age 97 of Thomaston Ga., died Friday December 17, 2021 at her residence.

Mrs. Sheppard was born on February 24, 1924, in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Thomas Benefield, and the late Lavada Cole Benefield.  She was a homemaker and a member of Clarks Chapel Baptist Church.  Mrs. Lavena was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.  In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Candler Sheppard, son, Thomas Sheppard, and brother, Kermit Benefield.

Survivors include her daughters, Janice (Edward) Boggs of Thomaston, Cathy (Kevin) Corley of Thomaston, son, Ronny Sheppard or Thomaston, numerous, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

MR. JOHN HARVEY GARNER JR.

Mr. John Harvey Garner Jr. age 77 of Thomaston Ga., died Thursday December 16, 2021 at his residence.

 Mr. Garner was born on May 20, 1944 in Thomaston, to the late John Harvey Garner Sr. and the late Bertha Mae Parker Garner.  He served his country in the U.S. Marines in Vietnam.  He worked for Caterpillar and was a member of Mt. Gap Church.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Tracie McCoy, and infant brother, Lester Garner.

 

Survivors include, his wife, Linda Garner of Thomaston, sons, Timothy M. (Maria) Garner of Meansville, Robbie L. MR. LINNIE "DALE" JACKSON

 Mr. Linnie "Dale" Jackson age 68 of Thomaston Ga., died Tuesday December 14, 2021 at Brightmoor Hospice.

Mr. Jackson was born on November 1, 1953 in Decatur, AL., to the late Luther Daniel Jackson and the late Lois Pierce Jackson.  He owned and operated a construction company and was a member of Northside Baptist Church.  In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his daughter, Alisha Knight, and sister, Anita Partee.

Survivors include his wife, Teresa Loper Jackson of Thomaston, sons, Jeff (Kim) Jackson of Murfeesboro, TN., Randy (Valerie) Jackson of McDonough, Kevin (Tracy) Jackson of Locust Grove, Robert (Kim) Murray of Seguin, TX., and Tim Murray of Thomaston.

MRS. LUCY GRACE MANGHAM WARD

 Mrs. Lucy Grace Mangham Ward, age 102, of Lifsey Springs, passed away December 12, 2021. She was born in Lifsey Springs, daughter of the late James William Mangham and Essie Leamon Bankston Mangham Jones.

Mrs. Ward was a homemaker and a life-long resident of Lifsey Springs and member of Beulah Baptist Church where she served as church secretary for 50 years. In the 1920s, Mrs. Ward swam in the original Lifsey Springs pool. In 2016, she and her siblings were awarded a certificate by the Guinness Book of World Records for the highest combined age achieved by five living siblings at 485 years and 72 days. Mrs. Ward enjoyed traveling with her husband to attend his WWII 100th Bomb Group reunions. They attended ones held in California, Ohio and Florida. She also enjoyed sewing and cooking for her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Kermit Ward, step-father Henry Grady Jones, infant sister Irene Mangham, sister Helen Mangham, and brother W. D. Mangham.

She is survived by her children: Kenneth (Cheryl) Ward, Harold (Brenda) Ward, Diane (Kenneth) Denny and Mike (Brenda Whitten) Ward.

She dearly loved her grandchildren: Troy (Samantha) Ward, Jason Ward, Shannon (Lorran) Michaels, Keri (David) Stowers, Jennifer (John) Duncan, Lisa (Robert) Housman, Lee (Julie) Ward, Curtis Ward and Anna Ward; and her 22 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren

She is also survived by her sisters: Rosalee King and Virginia Brooks; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 15, at 11:00 a.m., in Beulah Baptist Church, 7327 GA Hwy. 109, Molena. Chaplain Chris Hinson and grandson Curtis Ward will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

MR. JIM PORTER KELLEY

 Mr. Jim Porter Kelley, age 66, of Meansville, passed away December 7, 2021. He was born in Atlanta, son of the late Henry Johnson Kelley and Ella Virginia Crawley Kelley. Jim worked a truck driver and diesel mechanic for Ansco & Associates. He enjoyed fish, hunting, and drinking cold beer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene Holcomb Kelley, who was his high school sweetheart, love of his life and constant companion for 49 years. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, K. P. Nance.

He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law: Michelle and Marcus Rivers, Misty and Kevin Jones and Jessica Kelley; grandchildren: Meagan Jones, Kellianne Nance, Rowdy Waylon and Rylan Drake; several nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit the family on Monday, December 20, 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., at the funeral home.

MR. JESSE PAUL "SONNY" VICKERS JR.

 Mr. Jesse Paul “Sonny” Vickers, Jr., age 73, of Zebulon, passed away December 10, 2021, at his home.  He was born in Athens, son of the late Jesse Paul Vickers, Sr. and Ludie Mae Drake Vickers. Sonny was a veteran of the United States Army. After being discharged from the military, he took a job as a DCT teacher and worked for both Thomaston and Griffin school systems. He left there to be a carrier for the US Postal Service. Sonny was promoted to supervisor, but eventually decided he liked being a carrier, and moved back to that position before retiring. He enjoyed shooting, hunting and watching TV, especially westerns.

He is survived by his wife:  Lynn Vickers; children: Kimberly Vickers Duck (Zach) and Russell Vickers (Karen); granddaughters: Ansley and Madison Vickers; and many cousins.

Friends may visit the family on Sunday, December 12, 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., at the funeral home.  A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with Rev. John Blackmon officiating.

MR. ALBERT ORMAN SMITH

 Mr. Albert Orman Smith, age 71, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, December 7, 2021at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Smith was born on July 7, 1950 in Fort Valley, Georgia to the late, Joseph Calvin Smith and the late Mildren Robertson Smith.  He served his country in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.  He worked as a Regional Manager for several years at Movie Gallery, then went on to work as a Security Guard at Upson Regional Medical Center, and then he worked at Sprewell Bluff.  Mr. Smith was a member of Thomaston First United Methodist Church.  He loved the outdoors and fishing.  In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Michael Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Louise McKinley Smith of Thomaston, daughter, Kelli (Jamie) Pitts of Meansville, son, Chris (Denise) Partain of Bremen, sister, Lisa Newell of Thomaston, grandchildren, Dylan Partain, Jonathan Partain, Kenley Pitts, Karson Pitts, nieces, Kristi Ellis, Donna Vining, and 4 great nieces also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 10, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Southview Cemetery.   The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 9, 2021 from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.

Ryan Andrew Richmond Funeral

Ryan Andrew Richmond, age 32, of Molena, died Monday, December 6, 2021 in Upson County.

Ryan was born on May 10, 1989, in Jacksonville, Florida to Edward Charles Richmond Jr., and Debra Carter Richmond.  He worked as a lineman for Service Electric.  He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Joyce Elaine Richmond and Ed
ward Charles Richmond Sr.

Survivors include his wife, Melissa Rule Richmond of Molena, father, Ed (Kim) Richmond of Middleburg, FL. mother, Debra Richmond of Middleburg, FL., daughter, Allie Richmond, son Bryar Richmond, both of Molena, brother Cory Richmond of Middleburg, FL., maternal grandparents, Sandra and Teddy Carter of Jacksonville, FL., numerous, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

MRS. MARY "LIBBY" ELIZABETH THORE JOINER

 Mrs. Mary “Libby” Elizabeth Thore Joiner, age 55, of Molena, passed away December 5, 2021, at her home. She was born in North Carolina, daughter of the late Charles and Mary Thore and granddaughter of the late Olan and Dorothy Thore.  Libby was working in the cafeteria at Pike County High School. She enjoyed crafts and taking care of her family. Libby moved from Lithia Springs in 2012 to her “little farm.” She also enjoyed spending Saturdays at the racetrack watching her son race.

She is survived by her husband: Tommy Joiner; son and daughter-in-law: T. J. and Lindsey Joiner; daughter: Meghan Joiner; grandchildren: Gracelynn Joiner and Jaxon Joiner; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Kenny and Linda Joiner, and Courtni and David Cartwright; brothers and sisters: Ken Cox, Vicky Guman, Phyllis Cox, Sam Cox and Louis Thore; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends may visit the family on Wednesday, December 8, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home.

MR. PAUL GREGORY MARLOW

 Mr. Paul Gregory “Greg” Marlow, age 60, of Griffin, in Pike County, passed away December 6, 2021, at his home. He was born in Atlanta and raised in Riverdale, son of the late James William Marlow and Annie Ruth Bailey Marlow. In his early years, Greg was a self-employed carpet layer, then a plant manager at Formetal Company in Forest Park for 24 years and also for CCS in Austel.  Greg enjoyed going to the dog track, watching sports on TV, especially NASCAR.  He was a diehard Georgia Bulldog fan. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and all his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Keith Money and his son-in-law, Christopher Pope.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years: Donna Marlow; children: Matthew Kris Baker (Misty), Terri Michele Pope, Jake William Marlow, Kane Leslie Marlow (Meagan) and Tim Ryan Marlow; grandchildren: Blake, Bryson, Killean, Tylar and soon to arrive, Damon; sisters and a brother: Karen Money, Danny Marlow and Patricia Hinton (Ricky); nephew and nieces: Matt Money, Tiffaney Bayless, Kristie Hinton; brothers-in-law: James Baker and Steve Baker; several other nieces, nephews and extended family.

MRS. JULIE MICHELLE JONES GOOLSBY

 Mrs. Julie Michelle Jones Goolsby, age 50, of Cookeville, TN, passed away December 5, 2021 in Williamson, GA, surrounded by her loving family. Julie grew up in Pike County and graduated from Pike County High School. She was an entrepreneur who owned a children’s clothing store and a tanning salon. She adored her children and loved spending time with her family.

Julie was preceded in death by her father Johnny Jones, father-in-law Claude Bowman and her brother-in-law Greg Goolsby.

She is survived by her husband of 30 years: Mike Goolsby; children: Mary Michael Goolsby, Lindsey Grace Goolsby and Griffin Goolsby; mother: Angie Jones; sisters: Kris Perkins (Rodney) and Brooke Bartlett (Adam); nephews and a niece: Hunter, Levi, Ethan, Tatum, Maddie, Briggs and Beau; mother-in-law: Bettye Bowman; sister-in-law: Tammy Goolsby; and her beloved dog: Georgia.

MR. JIMMIE LOYD HARDY

 Mr. Jimmie Loyd Hardy, age 94, of Thomaston, died Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin.

Mr. Hardy was born on August 6, 1927, in Thomaston, to the late John Loyd, and to the late Amma Onedia Thompson Hardy. He worked at Goodrich/Uniroyal for 40 years as a warehouse manager.  He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during WWII, and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church.  In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Ruby A. Hardy, daughter, Melanie Jones, sisters, Helen moody, Pauline Hall, Rene Nevel, and his brother, John Loyd Hardy.

Survivors include his daughter, Debbie (Larry) McDaniel of Monroe, son, Greg (Amanda) Hardy of Thomaston, sister, LaRose Herring of Port St. Lucia, Florida, 9 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. from The Gathering Church.  Burial will follow at Crystal Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at The Gathering Church.

STANFORD O'NEAL CRAWL

 Stanford O’Neal Crawl, better known as “Neal,” was the son of the Debbie Sue Drain-Atwater and the late Willie Lee Womble-Crawl. He was born on February 4, 1974, in Upson County, GA. He attended Upson High School and Flint River Technical College, where he earned his General Educational Diploma. Although slowed by several mental obstacles in his life, Neal never lost his enjoyment of making people laugh and having a heart of gold. On Saturday, November 20, 2021, the Lord called him home to rest.


His spirit took flight and now united with his grandmother, the late Mrs. Winnie Lee Drain. He will be sorrowfully mourned by many, which includes: Ms. Debbie Sue Drain-Atwater (mother) of Thomaston, GA; Ms. Arlinda Nicole Steele (sister) of Ellenwood, GA; Trenetria Linya Steele (niece) of Smyrna, GA and Louise Womble (grandmother). In addition, he has a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and neighbors that will miss him dearly.


Memorial Services will be held on Saturday December 4, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. from Worthy Gym at 235 MLK Jr. Drive Thomaston Ga. 30286. The family will receive friends at the gym following the service.
