MR. PAUL MARLIN THOMPSON

Mr. Paul Marlin Thompson, age 71, of Meansville, Georgia, formerly of Augusta, died, Friday, January 28, 2022, at Riverside Nursing Home in Thomaston, Georgia.

Mr. Thompson was born on November 16, 1950, in Augusta, to the late Thomas Thompson, and the late Daisy Starnes Thompson. He worked for various HVAC companies in the Augusta area, and lastly, he was employed with Mechanical Equipment. He was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Thompson Cooper and Martha Thompson Odom, a brother, James Thompson, and a grandson, Taylor Thompson.

Survivors include his wife, Deborah Toole Thompson of Meansville, sons, Ken Felten of Meansville, Jason Thompson of Meansville, grandchildren, Gracie Felten, Austen Felten, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

It was Mr. Thompson's wish to be cremated, and the family will have a memorial service at a later date in Augusta.

MR. GARY SELF

Mr. Gary Fred Self, age 79, of Thomaston, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022, at Emory University Midtown Hospital in Atlanta, following a brief illness.

The family of Mr. Self will receive friends from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Friday, February 4, at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. A graveside memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 6, at 2:00 PM, in Upson Memorial Gardens. Rev. Charles Bennett will officiate.

Gary Fred Self was born April 8, 1942, in Thomaston, GA, son of Fred Glen Self and Clinton Dora Barfield Self. He was the second of three children born to the couple, between Glenda Sue and John Thomas "Tommy" Self.

Gary lived most of his life in Thomaston, except for his time of service during the Vietnam Conflict, where he toured several Asian countries, and his time spent at Auburn University where he trained to be a land surveyor. He was an upstanding citizen, passionately involved in local government and in making Thomaston/Upson County a better community for all. He was also an excellent sportsman, in particular enjoying tennis and pickleball. Gary was known to be a man of utmost integrity and had a strong moral compass, and truly led by example.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, as well as grandnephews Hunter Porter and River and Harvard Brodnax. Never having married or raised a family of his own, he was nonetheless an involved and dearly beloved Uncle Gary to the following: nephews and nieces, Clay (Janet) Porter, Cliff (Julie) Porter, Jonas (Tiffany) Stephens, Adrian Dawson, and Heather (Joel) Brodnax; grandnephews and -nieces Kristen (Blake) Prince, Michelle (Brandon) Rodgers, Michael Porter, Sydnie Porter, Summer (Mitchel) Bastion, Riggs and Isla Stephens, Natalie Dawson, and Reeve Brodnax; and great-nephew and -nieces, Morgan Prince, Emma and Everitte Rodgers, and Adora Bastion.

Terry James McCollum

Mr. Terry James McCollum, age 61, of Thomaston Ga, died Friday, January 28, 2022, at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. McCollum was born on April 23, 1960 in Lineville Al, to Gwyn McCollum and the late Annie Pearl Yarbrough McCollum. He was a graduate of Lineville High School. Mr. McCollum was formerly employed with Southern Natural Gas, Ferrell Gas and was currently employed with the Upson County Road Department. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church where served as Deacon. Mr. McCollum was an avid Alabama fan.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Tanya McKinley McCollum of Thomaston Ga., daughters Mrs. Nichole (Taylor) Matthews of Thomaston Ga., Mrs. Casey (Ryan) Fulghum of Meansville Ga, father Mr. Gwyn McCollum of Lineville Al, brothers Mr. Dale (Wanda) McCollum of Lineville Al, Mr. Sonny (Anita) McCollum of Lineville Al, sisters Mrs. Cindy (Gary) Clark of Wadley Al, Mrs. Cathy (Donny) Camp of Lineville Al, grandchildren Ella Kate Matthews, Avery Claire Matthews, Cooper Fulghum, Raegan Fulghum.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 29, 2022 from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.

MRS. DIANA YATES TRICE

Mrs. Diana Yates Trice, age 63, of Swainsboro, passed away January 27, 2022. She was born on June 7, 1958 in California, daughter of the late Edgar William Yates and Shirley Sue Martin. Diana enjoyed gardening, trips to the mountains and the beach, scenic drives, and spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jason Harvey.

She is survived by her husband: Kenneth Lee Trice, Sr.; children and their spouses: Josh and Tracy Harvey, Jennifer and Justin Parrish, Kenneth Lee Trice, Jr., Kory Trice and Kayla and Matt McDermitt; grandchildren: Ashleigh Parish, Mercedes McCaskill, Tyler Harvey, Autumn Smith, Ryan Harvey, Michael Salemi, Mason Salemi, Adam Harvey, Walker Salemi, Canaan McDermitt, Knox Parrish, Harper Parrish, Kenneth Lee Trice III.

Mr. J.C. Gill, age 85, of The Rock, Pike County, passed away January 27, 2022, at his residence.

MRS. NONNIE SUE KENT HICKS WRIGHT

Mrs. Nonnie Sue Kent Hicks Wright, age 88, of Zebulon, passed away January 20, 2022. She was born in Thomaston, GA in 1933 to the late Earlin Kent and Annie Lou Bishop Kent. After graduating from high school in Alexandria, VA, she went to work at the Pentagon and became best friends for life with Peggy Twardzik. She also met and married Marine Sgt. Irwin Hicks in 1952.. A son arrived in 1953 and a daughter in 1954.

Sue’s life was dedicated to her family and the upbringing of her children. She was always involved in the church wherever she lived. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and was very involved in women's ministries. During her husband's deployment to Vietnam, she went to Upson Tech and got her LPN license. After Vietnam, the family moved to Beaufort, S.C. While there she worked in pediatrics at the Naval Hospital in Beaufort. Upon her husband’s retirement in 1973, they moved to Pike County to be near his family. She managed the office for Dr. Banlu Potitong for a number of years. The last 15 years of her career were spent at Milby Clinic in Zebulon. Through it all she remained involved in her church. She was a member of Pike Assembly of God at the time of her death.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia Delynne Hicks age 28, brothers Leon Kent, John Wayne Kent, and Max Kent. She outlived both her husbands, Irwin Hicks died in 1990 and James Wright in 2007.

She is survived by her son Michael Stephen Hicks, one sister Yvonne Hamby, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She wished to be cremated. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Pike County Assembly of God in Zebulon. Family and friends will visit from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a funeral service at 1:00 pm. Everyone is asked to use good Covid safety practices.

In lieu of flowers, folks are encouraged to make a donation to Pike Assembly of God, 4099 Hwy. 19 South, Zebulon, GA 30295, in her honor. This will help with programs like Children of the Promise and the monthly food bank.

MRS. CAROLYN JEANETTE PORTER PETTY

 Mrs. Carolyn Jeanette Porter Petty, age 79, of Zebulon, passed away January 25, 2022.  She was born in Hollister, CA, daughter of the late Raymond A. Porter and Ida Mary Peterman Porter. Carol was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, loved animals, and showed Ibizan Hounds. Carol was a loving wife, Mom and Nana.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Medwick Petty and her brother John A. Porter.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Leisha and Marty Trott of Easley, SC and Sonya and Kirk Smith of Zebulon; grandchildren: Kris and his fiancé Rachel, Trevor, Hali, Izora and Elle.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 5, 3:00 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Moody Memorial Gardens.

MRS. DOROTHY KOHLER WELCH

 Mrs. Dorothy Kohler Welch, age 99, of Concord, passed away November 16, 2021. She was born in Long Island, NY, daughter of the late Albert Kohler and Sophie Plock Kohler. In the early 70s, Mrs. Welch moved to Concord where she raised her grandsons and helped raise many other children. Mrs. Welch was a preschool teacher at Griffin Christian School for years and a devoted member of Friendship Presbyterian Church in Concord. She loved owls and collected things with owls on them.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond W. Welch, her daughter, Cathie Thiel, great-grandson, Jonathon, great-great-granddaughter, Elyse, and her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her grandsons: Joey Thiel (Valeri) of Thomaston, George Thiel (Tracy) and Jimmy Thiel (Janie) all of Ramona, KS, and Jonny Thiel (Melissa) of Herington, KS; great-grandchildren: Amanda, Ben, Dallas, Jessi, Katie, Anthony, Kady, Jason, Jared, Kristen, Jacob, Kody, Kaitlin, Kaleigh, Lauren, Dalton, Michael, Joey and Chris; many great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 6, at 1 p.m., in the Friendship Presbyterian Church, 1004, Pedenville Rd., Concord.

Friends and family will visit after the service in the church fellowship hall.

ERIC NOEL PLINE

 Eric Noel Pline, 59, a greatly loved and loving son, brother, husband, father, granddaddy and friend passed away from this earth to behold His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on January 23, 2022. 

Eric grew up in Jonesboro, GA the youngest son of Ada and Joseph Pline who preceded him in death. 

He was also preceded by his brother Dale Pline and his dear father-in-law Roy C Harkness.

Eric is survived by his darling wife of 35 yrs Julie H Pline; mother-in-law Sarah Jane Harkness; brothers and sisters Phoebe Snow, Gary Pline and wife Sandra, Marc Pline, Valli Farmer and husband Keith; children Stephen Pline and wife Gigi, Joshua Pline and wife Jenna, David Pline and wife Kate, Benjamin Pline and wife Sarah, Samuel Pline and wife Julianna, Jacob Pline and wife Leah, and Caleb Pline and fiancĂ©e Tiffani Ikola; grandchildren Natalie, Garrison, Nathan, Jayna, Phillip, Mackenzie, Naomi, Adalyn, Collin, Aurora, Hazel and one expected in July that he was so looking forward to meeting. 

Eric had nothing more important to him than his relationship with Christ. His greatest priority was seeking to live as Christ and being in the Word of God, and he insured that he raised his family under the Word. Next to that was his priority first to his wife and then his children. He wanted to be a husband like Christ and the father to his children that he never had. He loved to read books and intentionally gifted godly books to his children every Christmas for their growth. He was known as the wisest, most knowledgeable man by everyone who knew him but he was truly and deeply humble. He saw himself as a great sinner and saw the great mercy that covered all his sin from his Great Savior, Jesus Christ. He spent his life seeking to tell everyone of the One who saved his soul and he died fully trusting in that great and merciful Savior. 

Funeral services will be on Saturday, January 29, 2022, 12:00 p.m., at Heritage Church, 150 Lester Road, Fayetteville. Pastor Hank Rast will officiate.

Friends may visit the family on Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at the church.

A private family burial will follow.


REV. JAMES EDWARD WILLIAMS

 Rev. James Edward "Buddy" Williams age 81 of Thomaston Ga., passed away Saturday January 22, 2022 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Rev. Williams was born on September 7, 1940 in Thomaston Ga, to the late Ernest Franklin Williams and the late Thelma Hutchinson Williams. He was a member of Sylvia Hill Christian Church where he served as Pastor for many years. Rev. Williams served his country in the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers J.W. Williams, Eugene Williams, Billy Williams.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Carol Gregg Williams of Thomaston Ga., daughters Mrs. Ashley (Randy) Lindsey of Zebulon Ga., Mrs. Sandra (Tim) Nixon of Reynolds Ga., son Mr. Matt (Allison) Livingston of Thomaston Ga., brothers Mr. Wayne (Wendy) Williams of Twiggs County Ga., Mr. Fred (Gwyn) Williams of Florida, Mr. Bobby (Janet) Williams of Macon Ga., sisters Mrs. Wynell Vining  of Byron Ga., Mrs. Thelma Jean (Ronnie) Kersey of Macon Ga, 6 grandchildren 5 great grandchildren.

 Mrs. Tammy Lynn Rawlins, age 57, of Zebulon passed away January 21, 2022.

MRS. GENEVA CHASTEEN SPRAGGINS

 Mrs. Geneva Chasteen Spraggins, age 81, of Thomaston Ga, died Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at Brightmoor Hospice.

Mrs. Spraggins was born on June 23, 1940 in Thomaston Ga., to the late Albert Chasteen and the late Lucille Jimmerson McGouirk. She was formerly employed with the William Carter Company where she worked as a sewing machine operator for 30 years. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Billy Spraggins, son Wayne Spraggins and brother Charlie McGouirk.

Survivors include her sons Joe Spraggins of Thomaston Ga., Timothy Spraggins of Atlanta Ga, sister in law Ann Lavoie of Thomaston Ga, 4 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday January 24, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in Upson Memorial Gardens.

MRS. TERESA LYNN WILEY DISPAIN

 Mrs. Teresa Lynn Wiley Dispain, age 61, of Zebulon, passed away January 20, 2022, at her home.  She was born in Atlanta, daughter of the late Robert Dillard Wiley and Rachel Chambers Wiley. Teresa was a truck driver for over 23 years. She drove for several companies, and as a team with her husband, Tony, for their own company, Dispain Trucking. Teresa was a kind-hearted person who enjoyed fishing and NASCAR races.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James Wiley and her niece, Sherri Abel.


She is survived by her husband: James Tony Dispain; son: Shawn Newport; grandchildren: Jayden and Alana; sisters and brothers: David Wiley, Charlene Smith, Dawn Williams (Richard), Charlotte Burke, Robert Wiley, Jr., and Jennifer Wiley; mother-in-law: Jewell Bounds; sisters-in-law: Lanell Pryon and Deborah Caldwell; brother-in-law: Randy Dispain; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog: Precious.

LOU MARTIN DANIEL

 Lou Martin Daniel, age 92, passed away January 13, 2022 at her residence surrounded by loved ones. She was born August 10, 1929 in Lanette, Alabama to Tom and Bessie F. Williams. She is preceded in death by her husband, Wesley M. Daniel, sister Evelyn Dickerson, and sister Frances Capps. She is retired from Adams Drugs and also a member of Mountain View Baptist Church.

Lou loved her family and spending time with them. Sending cards to her friends and loved ones was a must with her. She also loved bird watching, reading, fishing, going to the coast, cross stitching, gardening and planting flowers and watching Hallmark movies. She was an avid Braves fan and was excited to see them win the world series.

She is survived by her two children and their spouses: Muffin and Keith Gibson of Thomaston, Todd and Wanda Martin of Millmont, PA. Sister, Peggy Bloodworth of Thomaston. Grandsons: Caleb (Jordie) Pitts, Benjamin (Christina) Beverly of Thomaston; Great grandchildren Baleigh Beverly, Gracie Beverly, Saige Pitts, Wesley Jackson, Sophia Goodman, and Kayla Goodman. She also had a very special great niece, Casey (Stacy) Knight, that was her caregiver during the day, as well as a best friend. Lulu is also survived by nieces, a nephew, and several great nieces and nephews that she loved very much.

She also has extended grandchildren and great grandchildren that live out of state. Keith Wieder, Wendy Kilkinney, Scott Wieder, Melissa Anderson, Lucas Anderson, and Alexis Smith.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Mountain View Baptist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior at 1:00 p.m. at Mountain View Baptist Church.

MR. HIRAM PRESTON MASSENGALE

 Mr. Hiram Preston Massengale, age 89, of Griffin, in Pike County, passed away January 19, 2022, at his home.  He was born in Greenville, son of the late Edd Massengale and Lucille Cato Massengale.  Mr. Massengale was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. After being discharge from the military, he served in the Navy Reserves. He worked for Ditch Witch of Georgia and Atlanta Gas Light for many years before retiring. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of Jonesboro Masonic Lodge #87 and a licensed real estate agent. When his children were young, he coached baseball and football in the Jonesboro Area Athletic Association.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Zebulon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Joyce Blount Massengale, 10 brothers and sisters and his son-in-law, Bob Ward.

He is survived by his wife: Jefflyn Massengale; children: Betty Ward of Meansville, Hiram Douglas Massengale (Angie) of Zebulon, Wanda Massengale Godwin (Andy) of Fayetteville, and Wayne Massengale (Lisa) of Williamson; grandchildren: Kim Sexton (Glenn), Brandi Holmes, Kyle Massengale, J. P. Massengale, Astin Godwin, Tyler Godwin, and Joseph Massengale (Ashley); sisters: Judy Hay (Jack) of Meansville and Trisha Stephens of Griffin; 8 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

MRS. BETTY REE GOODEN BRADSHAW

 Mrs. Betty Ree Gooden Bradshaw, age 92, of Meansville, passed away January 18, 2022.  She was born on December 27, 1929, daughter of the late Trummie Tilton Gooden and Addie Willoughby Gooden.  Mrs. Bradshaw worked for The William Carter Company for 33 years before retiring. She enjoyed fishing, hunting and walking at the track in Meansville. She served on the Meansville City Counsel for many years. Mrs. Bradshaw was a long-time member of Meansville Baptist Church where she helped with the nursery for many years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 40 years, Leonard Bradshaw, Jr., her brothers, Jimmy, Harvey, Calvin, Harold and Marion, and a sister, Marie.

She is survived by her sons: Drew Bradshaw of Thomaston and Lynn Bradshaw of Meansville; grandchildren: Eric, Jessica and Whitney; sister: Margie Perdue of Yatesville; special nieces: Brenda  and her husband David, and Norma; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

MR. WILLIAM EARL HARE

 Mr. William Earl Hare, age 83, of Hoschton, formerly of Pike County, passed away January, 17, 2022, at his home. He was born in Yellow Bluff, AL, son of the late Travis James Hare and Lula Belle Turner Hare. Earl worked in construction for most of his life, and also for Mack Trucks for 23 years before retiring. Earl enjoyed playing in the dirt, walking, and in his early years, he enjoyed fishing. Most of all, Earl enjoyed spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years: Shirley Faye Swearingen Hare, daughter Sue Hare, grandsons, Nolan Carlile and Brandon Hare, and granddaughter, Jordan Hassell.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Brenda and Rick Begin of Cookeville, TN, Earline Holloway of Griffin, and Lisa and Richard Ellis of Hoschton; sister: Vesta Hare; brothers: James Hare, George Hare and Lawrence Hare; 12 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 29, at 12:00 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Pitts and Joe and Kim Stanley officiating.

Friends may visit the family on Saturday, from 11:00 p.m. to 12:00 p.m., at the funeral home.

 Mrs. Ann H. V. Warr, age 87, of Madison, formerly of Pike County, passed away January 16, 2022, at her home. She was born in Cleveland, Georgia, daughter of the late Jack Vandiver, Sr. and Lessie Hefner Vandiver. Ann was a homemaker who enjoyed her flowers, cooking, dancing, and traveling with her husbands who were Masons and Shriners. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Randolph Warr, her children Gregory (Vickie) Brown and Dale Austin Brown, Sr., grandsons, William Brown and Dale Austin Brown, Jr., sister, Marion V. (Johnny) Love, son-in-law, Chuck Rakestraw and sister-in-law, Sue Vandiver.


She is survived by her siblings: Jay Vandiver, Sr., Scott (Snookie) Vandiver, Julie (Tom) Donald; children: Kathy Brown Rakestraw, Tami Brown Mize, and Gigi Roach Clark; Daughter-in-law: Karen Rakestraw Brown; daughter-in-law: Mary Ruth Brown; aunt Grace Edwards; 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.


A graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 20, at 3 p.m. in Westwood Gardens in Griffin.

 Mrs. Janice Lunsford Peaden, age 74, Thomaston died Monday, January 17, 2022, at her residence.

Mrs. Peaden was born on January 21, 1947 in Thomaston Ga., to the late Jams Lunsford and the late Ethel Daniel Lunsford. She worked in the banking industry with United Bank for forty plus years. Mrs. Peaden was of the baptist faith.

 Mr. Clark E. Spence, 57 of Newnan, GA died January 10, 2022.

A native of Columbus, GA Mr. Spence has lived most of his life in Newnan, GA, where he was a heavy equipment Truck Driver for CW Mathews Company. He was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Spence was preceded in death by his father, Michael Allen Spence, Sr. and a brother, Michael Allen Spence, Jr.

 Mrs. Mary Ann Thomas Slaughter, age 86, of Thomaston GA, died Thursday, January 13, 2022, at her residence.

Mrs. Slaughter was born June 17, 1935, to the late Melvin Thomas and Florie Peugh Hagans. She was a retired clerk for Dr. Virginia Jones, and member of Mountain View Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wynton Slaughter; son-in-law, Ferrell Willis; and sister, Kay Williamson. She is survived by her daughter, Rhonda Willis of Thomaston; sister, Betty Jo Tocco of Michigan; 4 grandchildren, Katie (Mike) Brown, Beckie Kersey, Laura (Garrett) Wilson, and Barbie (Chuck) Bowser; and 4 great-grandchildren, Ella Kate, Grogan, Kiersten, and Jonathan.

MR. RALPH ALLEN BARFIELD

 Mr. Ralph Allen Barfield, age 82, of Thomaston, died Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Barfield was born on June 29, 1939, in Taylor County, to the late Wonzie Allen Barfield, and the late Lena Hortense Simmons Barfield.  He retired from the Martha Mill and retired from the National Guard. He taught the Machinist Class at Upson Tech, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Thomaston and the Masonic Morning Star Lodge #27. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Luther Ray White.

Survivors include his wife, Martha June Turner Barfield of Thomaston, daughters, Ann Barfield of Thomaston, Sharon (Tommy) Burkett of Thomaston, sons, Charles Keith (Becky) White of Thomaston, Ralph Allen (Jennifer) Barfield Jr. of Clemson, SC, Robert (Renee) Barfield of Thomaston, Christopher Allen Barfield of Griffin, brother, Wayne (Debbie) Barfield of Americus, sister, Alice Faye Scheittor of Orlando, Florida, thirteen grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren.

MS. BARBARA ANN HAYNES LAMB

 Ms. Barbara Ann Haynes Lamb, age 73, of Williamson, passed away January 12, 2022, at her home.  She was born in Alabama, daughter of the late Arthur Haynes and Evelyn Green Richardson. Barbara was a hard worker and made friends wherever she went.  She enjoyed shopping and loved spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren. She was an avid Alabama football fan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Billy, Mac and Johnny and a sister, Diane.

She is survived by her partner and the love of her life: Charles “Mike” Little and his mother: Mary “GoGo” Little; daughter and son-in-law: Charlotte and Lamont Wittig; son Donald Jinks; grandchildren: Matt Whitman and wife Larissa and Tasha Edgeworth; great-grandchildren: Sophia, Stella, Sloane, Eli, Addy and Kobi; sisters and brothers-in-law: Jeanette and Billy Niles, Marie Phillips, Nina and Marc Durand; many nieces and nephews; and her best friend: Debra Jones.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m., on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at the home of Charlotte and Lamont Wittig, 781 McKay Road, Gray, GA.

MR. JAMES ELTON HAROLD EMERSON SR.

 Mr. James "Cooter" Elton Harold Emerson Sr. age 61 of Thomaston Ga., died Thursday January 13, 2022 at his residence.

Mr. Emerson was born in Upson County, on February 21, 1960, to the late Roy Emerson and the late Willie Mae Stover Emerson.  He worked at Woodland Industries for 30 years as a Warehouse Supervisor, and attended Manchester First Assembly of God.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Earline Hamby, Joann Eason, Mildred Baughcum and Shirley Waters.

Survivors include his wife, Stephanie Johnson Emerson of Thomaston, daughters, Chasity (Sherman) Baker of Manchester, Jamie Turner of Thomaston, son, CJ (Allie) Emerson of Thomaston, grandchildren, Austin (Jade Lee) Baker, Hannah Baker, Madison Hughes, Ronnie Hughes, and Bentley Emerson.

NEIL STANLEY RAGAN

Sgt.Neil Stanley Ragan age 61 of Thomaston Ga., died Tuesday January 11, 2022 at Upson Regional Medical Center. 

Sgt. Ragan was born on July 31, 1960 in Thomaston to the late Malcolm Stanley Ragan, and the late Hazel Ruth Burkette Ragan.  He started his  career with Law Enforcement in 1982 as a volunteer, then he was hired as a full-time Radio Operator in 1984, he then went on to complete Basic Law Enforcement Training in 1986.  After working as a Deputy for three years he was promoted to Senior Deputy in 1989 and then to Sergeant in 1993.  Sgt. Neil then worked in Court Services until his retirement in 2019.  He also spent some time volunteering for the Upson County Rescue Unit and Thurston Volunteer Fire Department.  He is preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Melinda Salter Ragan of Thomaston, daughter, Tabitha Burks of Thomaston, step-daughters, Tiffany (Joe) Jackson of Milner, Skyla Morris of Thomaston, son, Benjamin (Kimberly) Ragan of Thomaston, step-son, Thaddeus (Savannah) Morris of Thomaston, sister, Debbie Hendrickson of Dothan, Alabama, and eight grandchildren.

 Mr. Robert James Ellington age 88 of Thomaston Ga., died Wednesday January 12, 2022 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Ellington was born on February 28, 1933 in Upson County, to the late Robert Ellington, and the late Fannie Louise Bass Ellington.  He worked for B.F. Goodrich Mill as a winder technician and ran a produce stand.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Lou Perkins Ellington, son, Richard Andrew Ellington, brothers, Eugene Ellington, Kenneth Ellington, sister, Brenda Thelma Moody, and great-grandchild, Kenidale Johnson.

Survivors include his granddaughter Lacey (Eric) Ellis of Thomaston brother, Frank (Joyce) Ellington of Thomaston, sisters, Edna Ruth Borders of Byron, Barbara Ann Bryant of Athens, and four great-grandchildren.

 Mrs. Sabrina Darlene Dedmon age 65 of Thomaston Ga., died Tuesday January 11, 2022 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Dedmon was born on October 24, 1956 in Concord, North Carolina, to the late Troy Semon and the late Phillis Deal Semon.  She worked as a tattoo artist.  In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Dedmon, brother, Ed Semon, and sister Sarah Carole.

Survivors include her daughter, Subrina Beverly (Alexander Avery) of Thomaston, son, Jimmy (Chasity) Semon of Concord, North Carolina, and four grandchildren.

MR. JOHN FRANKLIN AKINS

 Mr. John Franklin Akins, age 69, of Molena, passed away January 7, 2022, at his residence.

Mr. Akins was born on February 12, 1952, in Rome, Ga., son of the late Robert M. Akins and the late Willie Mae Putnam Akins. He attended Yatesville High School and was a 1970 graduate of R.E. Lee Institute. He was a man who enjoyed numerous things including hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking, singing, and sports. Mr. Akins was a self employed tradesman who built many homes in the Middle Georgia area. He was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Kenneth Scoggins and Geno Guy.

Survivors include his wife, Sherry Guy Akins; daughter and son in law, Julie and David White of Rome; sons and daughters in law, Josh and Amanda Akins of Molena, Joey and Helen Akins of Franklin; grandchildren, Landon, Breelynn, Dylan, Grace, Isaac, Aisley, Avyn, Chandler, and Jackson; great granddaughter, Anslee; sisters and brother in law, Linda Scoggins of Rome, Diane and Tony Swafford of Rome; brothers and sisters in law, Anthony and Elaine Akins of Thomaston, Tim and Tammy Akins of Rome; numerous nieces and nephews.

 Mr. Steve Bentley Raybon age 64 of Thomaston Ga., died Thursday January 6, 2022 at his residence.


Mr. Raybon was born on March 20, 1957, in Thomaston, to the late Boyett Raybon Sr. and the late Margaret Gassett.  He worked as a painter and was of the Baptist Faith.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Nikki Raybon Dean, sister, Linda Ard, and brothers, Barry Raybon and Gary Raybon.

MR. CHARLES AUBREY BARTON JR.

 Mr. Charles “Bill” Aubrey Barton Jr., age 55 of Concord, passed away at his home on January 4, 2022. Bill grew up in Pike County, son of Kathleen “Kay” Barton and the late Charles Aubrey Barton. He enjoyed attending St. Peter’s The Rock Church in Thomaston alongside his mother on Sundays as well as camping and all types of music. He had a love for animals and spent his time watching his favorite cartoons.


Bill was preceded in death by his father, Charles Barton.


He is survived by his mother: Kathleen Barton, as well as his brother and sister-in-law Robert and Christy Barton.

MR. WALTON JEFFERSON SANDEFUR

 Mr. Walton Jefferson “Jay” Sandefur, age 55, of Barnesville, passed away January 4, 2022.  Jay grew up in Pike County, son of the late Brenda Faye Smith Sandefur and Jared Wesley “J. W.” Sandefur. He graduated from Pike County High School. Jay was a custodian for the Pike County School System and then later worked at the Pike County Transfer Station. He enjoyed fishing and listening to music. His favorite band was Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Jay is survived by his brothers and a sister-in-law: Wesley Sandefur of Pike County and Chris and Tiffany Sandefur of Barnesville; 10 nieces and nephews, and 13 great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mr. Walker was born May 2, 1947, in Woodbury GA to the late Carl Webster Walker and Amy Louise McGraw Walker. He retired form Meed in Greenville with 30 plus years, and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Woodbury.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Ricky Walker and Lamar Walker. Survivors are his wife, Sherry Mathis Walker; daughter, Leann (Michael) Ham of Savannah GA; son, Blake (Heather Gaultney) Walker of Thomaston; sisters, Jackie Story of Woodland and Patricia (Keith) Paige of Thomaston; brothers, Felton (Marie) Walker of Griffin and Preston Walker of Woodbury; and grandchildren, Jacob Adams and Madison Walker.

 Mrs. Rebecca Ann Perdue Dyche-Howard, age 64, of Thomaston, died Sunday, January 2, 2022, at her residence in Thomaston.

Mrs. Dyche-Howard was born January 1, 1959, in Americus GA, to the late Walter Perdue and Charlotte Phillips Perdue. She was a server at Waffle House in Forsyth GA.

She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Teresa Brawner; sisters, Karen Ford and Elizabeth Perdue. Survivors are her son, Jerry (Christie Cooke) Brawner of Thomaston; sister, Suzanne Palmer of Senoia GA; brother, James Perdue of Thomaston; and grandchildren, Sarah Brawner and Meghan Brawner.
