MR. KENNETH DWAYNE FLOURNOY

 Mr. Kennith Dwayne Flournoy, age 50, of Thomaston, died Sunday, September 27, 2020 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Flournoy was born on October 15, 1969 in Monroe County, to the late Samuel Jackson Flournoy and Johnnie Foster Flournoy.  He worked as a truck driver for Davis Trucking.  He is preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his mother, Johnnie Flournoy, wife, Peggy Flournoy, daughters, Samantha (Joey) Nipper of Barnesville, Jamie Lewis, son Johnny Flournoy, brother, Jack (Alicia) Flournoy, sister Tricia (Kenny) Goins of Barnesville, grandchildren, Thomas Logan, Wesley Nipper, Athena Lewis, Abbi Ross, Kameron Nipper, Johnny Dwayne Kennith Flournoy, and sister-in-law, Pam (Shaun Childres) Pearson of Hart County.

MR. ROGER FLOYD PORTWOOD

 Mr. Roger Floyd Portwood, age 63, of Thomaston, died Saturday, September 26,2020 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Portwood was born on May 19, 1957, in Chatham County, to the late Rollie Portwood and Barbara Hardy Portwood.  He worked as a painter at GMH Welding and was a member of Twin Oaks Baptist Tabernacle.  He is preceded in death by his father, sons, Robert Dean Portwood, Jason Fathead Carter, and Richard Bubba Portwood.

Survivors include his mother, Barbara Portwood, wife, Cindy Portwood, daughter, Alicia (Downey) Poteat, son, Brandon (Sherri) Portwood, brother, Ronnie (Pam) Portwood, sisters, Robin (Jerry) Gross, Rita Towery, twelve grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Southview Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Coggins Funeral home.

COACH TOMMY PARKS

 Coach Thomas "TP" Grant Parks,  age 48 passed away Tuesday September 22, 2020 at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin.

Coach Parks was born on February 15, 1972 in Upson County, GA, to the late Donald Eugene Parks, and the late Sandra Grant Parks.  He was an educator and coached high school varsity football and baseball.  Coach Parks played college baseball at Lurleen B. Wallace Community College in Andalusia, AL, where he received and Associates of Arts degree.  He went on to play college baseball at Berry College in Rome, GA, where he received a BA in Social Science.  His first teaching job in 1995 was with Andalusia High School in Andalusia, AL, where he was also the Head Varsity Baseball Coach and Assistant Varsity Football Coach.  In 1997 he went to Manchester High School in Manchester, GA, to teach and was also an Assistant Head Varsity Football Coach, Defensive Coordinator and Golf Coach.  While at Manchester, he attended Troy State University in Phenix City, AL. and received a Master of Arts in Education/Administration degree.  In 2002 he went to Harris County High School in Hamilton, GA. to become the Defensive Coordinator for Varsity Football and was then named Head Varsity Football Coach in 2004.  Tommy was also the Head Varsity Baseball Coach from 2005-2009 while at Harris County High School.  He went back home in 2014 to Upson-Lee High School in Thomaston, GA to become the Head Varsity Coach.  He is preceded in death by his parents, maternal grandparents, Fred and Nelle Grant of Thomaston, and paternal grandparents, Tommy and Roxie Parks of Pulaski, TN.

Survivors include his wife, Carmen Parks of Harris County, daughter, Carson Parks of Thomaston, son, Hunter Paddock of Harris County, sister, Lisa (Jay) Dover of Thomaston, brother, Alan (Lynne) Parks of McDonough, three nephews, three nieces, and all of his brothers and sons that were teammates, fellow coaches, players and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the TPStrong Scholarships which include, Upson Lee Varsity Football, Upson Lee Varsity Baseball, Harris County Varsity Football and Harris County Varsity Baseball at F&M Bank and Trust 142 W. Main St. Manchester, GA 31816.

Memorial services will held on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. from Mountain View Baptist Church.  Family will receive friends at the conclusion of the service in the sanctuary.   

For those who can not attend the service, it will be live streamed on the Mountain View Baptist Church Facebook page, website and YouTube channel.

MR. WILLIAM MARTIN ARMBRUST

Mr. William Martin Armbrust, age 79 of Thomaston, departed this life on Monday, September 21, 2020, to be reunited with his beloved wife of 39 years.


Bill was born on May 16, 1941, in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Charles Armbrust and Angela T. Fercello. He graduated from Reseda High School in 1960, in Reseda, CA.  Bill was honorably discharged from the US Air Force in 1963, after three years of service where he was part of a canine military police unit. He married Melisa Phillips Armbrust on June 18, 1980.  Bill had been the owner and operator of Mountain View Mobile Home Manor in Thomaston since 1974. He was a Master Mason and a Shriner.


He is survived by his brother: Victor James Armbrust of Oakland, CA; his brother-in-law: David Andrew Phillips and his wife Janice of Austell; his sister-in-law: Melinda Phillips Eckles of Brooks; nephews: Peter Michael Armbrust of Concord, CA, Michael Shane Perry of Brooks, Gergory Dale Norton of Marietta; nieces: Lisa Natalie Armbrust of Long Beach, CA,  Audrey Melissa Eckles of Hayesville, NC, Jena Grace Eckles of Griffin: Godson: Christopher Dale Blair and his mother Julia Grace Blair of Newnan; great-nephews: Torin James Armbrust of Long Beach, CA,  Michael Justin Perry of Thomaston, Asher Michael McElwaney of Griffin; great-nieces: Ashara Kiara Armbrust of Concord, CA, Kali Brooke Perry of Thomaston, Gracyn Rae Perry of Thomaston; cousin: Debra Kelly of Jacksonville, FL; and his beloved dog Minnie (and the late Pixie and Dixie).


A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 27, 3 p.m., at Moody-Daniel Funeral Home in Zebulon.


Friends may visit the family on Sunday 2-3 p.m., at the funeral home.

MR. DONALD "CRAIG" BAUGHCUM

 Mr. Donald "Craig" Baughcum, age 56, of Thomaston, died on Tuesday, September 22, 2020, at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Baughcum was born on March 15, 1964, in Thomaston, to the late Aaron Baughcum Sr. and the late Earlene Stover Hamby.  He was self-employed as a landscaper.  He is preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Donna Ann Williams Baughcum.

Survivors include his brothers, Aaron (Susan) Baughcum Jr, David (Rita) Baughcum; sister, Jane Baughcum; great niece, Riley Baughcum; caregiver and companion, Sheila Baughcum.

Memorial graveside services will be held on Friday, September 25, 2020, at 11:00 AM, at Southview Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at Southview after the service.

MR. WALTER BERNARD GEIGER SR.

Walter Bernard Geiger, Sr., 93, died at his home in Savannah, GA on Sept. 20, 2020. He was born in Zurich, Switzerland on Nov. 13, 1926 and immigrated through Ellis Island to America with his parents Bernard Geiger and Berta Fischer Geiger. They lived in New York City where his father had a sponsor and job and all three became naturalized American citizens and learned to speak English.

Walter was christened at Lexington Avenue Lutheran Church in New York and attended Stuyvesant School for Boys. The family moved to Chaplin, CT where he graduated high school. He immediately enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was eventually stationed in France. After WWII, he earned a B.S. degree from the University of Connecticut and went on to get a Master’s degree in Forestry from Duke University.

He went to work for Union Bag and Paper Company in Savannah in 1951 where he met and married Vivian Lanier in 1953. They were blessed with four wonderful children. Walter was PTA president at Virginia Lord Heard School and active in his sons’ Cub Scout Troop. He and three friends started the Republican Party in Savannah.

The family moved to Ailey, GA in 1969 where Walter opened a plant for Union Camp in nearby Higgston. He was a member of Ailey Baptist Church where he was a Deacon, Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir.
After several transfers, the last being to Savannah, he retired from Union Camp. He moved his membership to First Baptist Church. He was a lifetime member of the Society of American Foresters. After retiring, he enjoyed 22 years of employment and camaraderie at Habersham Beverage in Savannah. He was proud to be a Red Cross VIP blood donor.

Walter was predeceased by his parents; mother and father-in-law Jewel and Howell Lanier; and fellow forester Jean C. Santoro who was like a brother to him.

In addition to his wife Vivian, he is survived by his children, Walter Bernard Geiger, Jr. (Laura), James Christopher Geiger (Christie), David Lanier Geiger (Angie) and Kaye Geiger Eaton (Philip); 11 grandchildren, James Christopher Geiger, Jr. (Blair), Katie Geiger Beacham (Jeff), Andrew Cason Geiger (Linnea), Caroline Geiger Wortman (Nate), David Nicholas Geiger (Julia), Kelsey Geiger Marino (Dave), May Melton Geiger, William Geiger Eaton, Livia Lanier Geiger, Shelby Noelle Geiger and Anna Kathryn Eaton; five great-grandchildren, Colton and Layla Beacham, Walter and Theodore Geiger, Violet Geiger and one on the way; Katie’s mother Kay B. Geiger; and a cousin Erica Marcolin (Heinz) of Zurich.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020 at 2 p.m. in Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah with Father John Caparisos delivering the prayer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blessed Sacrament School in Savannah in memory of Father Jeremiah McCarthy or First Baptist Church of Savannah.

Mrs. Mildred Olive Fowler age 82 of Thomaston Ga, died Friday September 18, 2020 at her residence.

Mrs. Fowler was born on November 9, 1937 in Thomaston Ga, to the late Robert E. Olive Jr., and the late Julia Boggs Olive. She worked as a school teacher in the city and county schools until her retirement. Mrs. Fowler was a member of Thomaston First United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Billy Eugene Fowler and brother Robert E. Olive III.

Survivors include her daughters Mrs. Karen (Bert) Truesdale of Thomaston Ga, Mrs. Jan (Steve) Duke of Thomaston Ga, sister Mrs. Jane Long of Fayetteville Ga, grandchildren Amanda Owens, Alden Moore, Grant Owens, Dawson Duke, Kaden Duke. Great Grandchild Asher Owens.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday September 22, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Upson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Coggins Funeral Home on Tuesday September 22, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

MRS. ELESE PARKER SMITH

Mrs. Elese Parker Smith age 92 of Thomaston GA, passed away Tuesday September 8, 2020 at Riverside Health and Rehab.
Mrs. Smith was born on October 15, 1927 in Pickens County, GA, to the late William Edgar Parker and the late Ethel Estell Moss Parker.  She retired from the William Carter Company after 40 years, then went on to work at the Senior Citizen Center in Franklin, GA and retired after 6 years.  She is of the Baptist Faith.  She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Fred Allen Smith Sr. and son, Fred Allen Smith Jr.
Survivors include her brothers, Danny O.(Nettie) Parker of Forsyth, Earnest Waymon (Jill) Parker of Washington, sisters, Beverly (Ben Sr.) Cochran of Thomaston, Frances Coulter of Lafayette, three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 11, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. from the Forsyth City Cemetery.  The family will receive friend on Thursday, September 10, 2020 from 5:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. at Coggins Funeral Home

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Bobby Pope of Macon, Georgia, who passed away on September 6, 2020, at the age of 75, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was loved and cherished by many people including : his wife Carol Mosely Pope; his children, Andy Pope (Jen) of Athens, Georgia and Krissy Walker (Russell) of Perry, Georgia; his grandson Knighton Walker of Perry, Georgia; his sisters, Susan McNeely (Tommy) of Conyers and Marie Wyrwa of Conyers, Georgia; and his sister-in-law Suzanne Malloy (John) of Lizella, Georgia. He was also cherished by many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 11th 2020 at 11:00 AM at the Hart's Mortuary and Cremation Center (6324 Peake Rd, Macon, GA 31210).
