Mr. Gerald Hugh Holloway, age 85, of Thomaston, GA, died Thursday, December
27, 2018, at his residence. Memorial services for Mr. Holloway will be held
Monday, December 31, at 2:00 PM, at the First United Methodist Church of
Thomaston. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall of the

Deacon Calvin Cunningham, Sr., 90, of 3649 Logtown Road passed on Tuesday in the Navicent Center of Peach County

in Fort Valley, GA.

Ms. Emily G. Williams, age 80, of Thomaston passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2018, at her residence.
She was born to the late William Harvey (Ruth) Shaw. Ms Williams was preceded in death by a brother James Edward Shaw, daughter Emily Berniece Mewbourn, and a sister Rachel Jones.
She is survived by her sisters, Ms. Ruby Weldon and Ms. Sarah Fordham of Thomaston Ga, granddaughter Kendra (Cody) Nash, great granddaughters , Brookelynn Shian Teal, Kaylee Nash, Isabella Nash and one great grandson, Brayden Nash all of Thomaston. She was a member of New Life Pentecostal Holiness Church, and was the pianist for many years. She attended First Assembly Of God.
Graveside Services will be held on Friday December 28, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. from Mountain View Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at Coggins Funeral Home on Friday December 28, 2018 from 1:00 p.m.-1:45 p.m.

MRS. REBECCA T. YAWN

Mrs. Rebecca T. Yawn, age 66, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, December 25, 2018 at her residence.
Funeral services for Mrs. Yawn will be Saturday December 29, 2018 11:00 AM at Thomaston First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow In Crystal Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Yawn was born January 21, 1952 in Thomaston to the late Charles C. and Alice Logan Tate. She was a 1970 graduate of R.E. Lee High School, 1974 graduate of North Georgia College in Dahlonega, GA, where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa sorority.
Mrs. Yawn was a retired educator from the Upson Co. school system with 34 1/2 years of service and a member of Thomaston First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Tatum Sunday School class.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, J. Wesley Yawn of Thomaston, daughters, Aliceon R. Yawn of Zebulon and Lesley Y. Murphy and her husband Michael J. of Thomaston, brother, C. Danny Tate and his wife Mary of Thomaston and one grandchild, Tucker J. Murphy.
The family will receive friends Friday December 28, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Coggins Funeral Home.

MR. JOHNNY CARTHAN HAMMONDS

Mr. Johnny Carthan Hammonds, age 70, of Thomaston, died Monday, December 24, 2018, at the Upson Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Hammonds was born September 29, 1948, in Upson County to the late Carthan and Catherine Mathews Hammonds. He was a 1967 graduate of R.E. Lee Institute, and received his Bachelors Degree from Georgia Southern University. He worked in Textile Management at B.F Goodrich's Martha Mills for over 30 years, and was a member of the Thomaston First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Hammonds was a very active member of the Thomaston Lions Club, and was named the Pete Harvey - Young Lion of the Year, 1981. 
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Hammonds; and son, John Hammonds. He is preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Hammonds.
Memorial services for Mr. Hammonds will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. The Family will receive friends on Thursday, December 27, 2018 from 1:00 - 3:00 pm at Coggins Funeral Home.

MRS. FLORENE BRADLEY HEATON

Mrs. Florene Bradley Heaton, age 94, of Thomaston Ga, died Thursday, December 20, 2018, at Upson Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Heaton was born June 14, 1924, in Gastonia, North Carolina, to the late Edgar and Jessie Milton Bradley.  She was an Inspector at Carter's and a member of East Thomaston Baptist Church. 
Mrs. Heaton was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Robert Heaton. Survivors include her daughter, Diane Butts and her husband Jimmy Butts of Macon, GA., and son David Heaton of Thomaston, GA., brother, Hugh Henry Bradley and sister, Louise Auten, grandchild, Brian Butts and his wife Jennifer, and great grandchildren Emily and Tyler Butts. 
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, December 23, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. from Coggins Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow in Upson Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends at Coggins Funeral Home on Saturday, December 22, 2018, from 4:00p.m.- 6:00p.m.

RETIRED THOMASTON POLICE OFFICER BRYANT EUGENE HARP SR.

Mr. Bryant Eugene Harp Sr. age 86 of Thomaston GA, died Thursday December 13, 2018 at Upson Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be Sunday December 16, 2018 4:00 PM at the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Harp was born January 27, 1932 in Upson Co., GA to the late Bryant N. and Lola Wilson Harp. He served in the United States Army with 20 years of service during the Vietnam War and was retired from the Thomaston Police Department with 21 years of service. Mr. Harp was a former member of Southside Baptist Church in Griffin and a member of Silvertown Baptist in Thomaston.
Mr. Harp was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Marian Killingsworth Harp.
Survivors include his sons, Bryant Eugene Harp, Jr. and his wife Fran of Cameron, MT and James Calvin Harp and his wife Susan of Griffin, brothers, Don K. Harp and his wife Kathy of Thomaston and Cecil Harp and his wife Frances of Thomaston, sisters, Maxine Barron of Barnesville, Norene Horne and her husband Lyn of Yatesville and Judy Thigpen of Macon, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren.

Ms. Laverne Ballard age 77 of Thomaston Ga, died Wednesday December 12, 2018 at her residence.
Ms. Ballard was born on July 7, 1941 in Thomaston Ga, to the late Olen T. Ballard and Lilly Nixon Ballard. She was formerly employed with Thomaston Mills where she worked in the bleachery division. Mrs. Ballard also worked for Labcorp as a courier and retired from the Georgia Blind Academy where she worked as a house parent. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her brothers John Wesley Hunt Sr, Garner Marion Hunt, Holly King Hunt, Wayne Ballard, Charlie Ballard, sister Alpha Ballard Youngblood, grandchildren Jacob McCard, Harrison Benjamin Cohen.

MRS. ANNE DOOLITTLE BUTTS

Mrs. Anne Doolittle Butts age 73 of Thomaston Ga, died Sunday December 2, 2018 at her residence. 

Mrs. Butts was born on February 17, 1945 in Thomaston Ga, to the late James W. Doolittle and the late Ellen Johnson Doolittle. She was the co founder of Thomaston Hospice where she worked for many years. Mrs. Butts was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church, American Nursing Association and Hospice Nurse Certification. She was instrumental in getting the first mental health chapter in Upson County. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Willis Eugene Butts.

Survivors include her daughters Lisa Anne Butts of Thomaston Ga, Kayla (Yancey) Bell of Thomaston Ga, siblings Janice (Gary) Lutke of Thomaston Ga, Mark (Sharon) Doolittle of Destin Fl, Tim Doolittle of Meansville Ga, grandchildren Chasity (Kenny) Raybon, Cody Bell, Austin Bell, Mackenzie Bell, great grandchildren Rilee Raybon, Jaxson Raybon, Trenton Raybon, special friends Ann McDaniel, Deborah Dunnahoo, Mary Nell Reeves.

MR .KENNETH HOWARD REEVES

Mr. Kenneth Howard Reeves, age 76, of Thomaston died Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at his residence. 

Mr. Reeves was born in Thomaston to the late Eustace Hoke and Bessie Brown Reeves. He retired from Georgia Department of Transportation as Traffic Operations Engineer, was a Veteran of the Georgia National Guard, and member of Clark's Chapel Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Shelby Reeves, brothers Earl Reeves, Larry Reeves, sister Maxine Sollenberger.

Survivors include his daughter Alyson (Gunner) Winston of Los Angeles CA, son Kevin Reeves of Thomaston GA, sister Mary Nell Reeves of Thomaston GA, 2 grandchildren.

MR. BOBBY FRED EDMONDSON

Mr. Bobby Fred Edmondson, age 84, of Thomaston died Wednesday, November 28, 2018, at his residence.

He had been married to his wife, Helen Edmondson for 63 years this past June. She preceded him in death. He was Owner/Operator of Edmondson's Heating and Air Conditioning Service, member and deacon of Northside Baptist Church.

Mr. Edmondson is preceded in death by his son-in-law, Carey Ellerbee. He is survived by his daughter, Tracy Ellerbee; sons, Neal (Kay) Edmondson and Baxter (Trisa) Edmondson; grandchildren, Jason Edmondson, Adam Edmondson, Nick Hemby, Casey Ellerbee, Carson Ellerbee, Kris Edmondson, and Kelly Teal; great-grandchildren, Lindsey & Cooper Edmondson, Avery Edmondson, Nash Hemby, Kyia Ellerbee, Jaci Taylor, Charlee Kate Ellerbee, Emilee Reese Ellerbee, Jaxson & Jasper Teal, David, Rebecca & Turner McConnell.

Mrs. Deborah Kaye Blackston, 62 of Thomaston died November 26, 2018 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Blackston was born on September 2, 1956 in Butler Ga, to the late John Blackston and the late Dorothy Kate Blackston. She worked for the William Carter Company as a shipping supervisor and later worked at Quad Graphics in the finishing department until her retirement. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her brother David Lamar Hemby.

BERTHA RUTH OLIVER

Bertha Ruth Oliver, 87, passed away peacefully at home on August 12, 2018. 

A memorial service will be held Friday December 28, 2018 10:00 AM in the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends following the service.

She was born in Thomaston, Georgia to the late George and Nellie Mayers Cavander on February 3, 1931. She was also predeceased by her husband, James D. Oliver, Sr. Bertha loved life and spending time with her family, she enjoyed having fun but also loved her personal time reading her books.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving sons, George Oliver and his wife Cindy, and James Oliver Jr. grandchildren, Monica Oliver, Melinda Abinal, Jamie Oliver, and Brandy Oliver, great-grandchildren, Destiny Oliver and Marianne Abinal, and sisters, Betty Mewbourn and Josey Andrews.

Mr. Tony Lee Dinkins age 80 of Thomaston Ga, died Thursday November 22, 2018 at Riverside Health and Rehab. 

A visitation will be held Saturday November 24, 2018 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Coggins Funeral Home.
Mr. Dinkins will be buried in Crystal Hill Cemetery.

He was born October 5, 1938 in Upson Co., GA to the late Gaines and Tommie Lee Swank Dinkins. He served in the United States Marine Corp during Vietnam, retired from UGA Experiment Station and is of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Diana Lynn Weaver, age 53, of Thomaston Ga, died Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at the Upson Regional Medical Center. 

A memorial service will be held Saturday December 1, 2018  1:00 PM at Smyrna Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. 

Mrs. Weaver was born May 28, 1965, in Thomaston, to James Ernest Daniel and the late Betty Lou Daniel. She was a supervisor for Trophy Ford and attended Smyrna Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Tim Weaver; daughter, Brittany Weaver (Dillon) Coogler; son, David (Amanda) Waddle; sisters, Julie (Randy)Teal, Shelia (Lee) Hancock, and Kay Goodman; brothers, David (Deann) Daniel and Jimmy (Lynn) Daniel; grandchildren, Ella Waddle and Riley Coogler.

The family will be at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Randy Teal 1161 Atwater Rd. Thomaston, GA 30286.

Mr. Jerry Lee Wilson age 47 of Thomaston Ga, died Friday November 16, 2018 at Piedmont Henry Hospital.

Mr. Wilson was born on April 21, 1971 in Meriwether County Ga, to David Wilson and the late Mary Harris McElmore. He was employed with Berry Plastic where he worked as a technician.

Survivors include his daughter Ashley (Steven Bray) Wilson of Villa Rica Ga, father David (Arlene) Wilson of Warner Robins Ga, brothers Stanley (Karen) Winguard of Pine Mountain Ga, Terry (Lisa) Winguard of Pine Mountain Ga, sisters Mary Katherine (Eddie) Johnson of Thomaston Ga, Linda (Andy) Trotter of Thomaston Ga.

Mrs. Dorothy Driver Folds age 93 of Meansville Ga, died Thursday November 8, 2018 at Harborview Health and Rehab. 

Memorial Services will be Sunday November 18, 2018 3:00 PM in the chapel of Coggins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Folds was born January 22, 1925 in Alabama to the late Clarence D. and Carrie Sharp Driver and was of the the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jay Folds, and sisters, Bobbi Heywood and Colleen White.

Mrs. Folds is survived by her brother, Donald Driver of Thomaston, GA.

MR. CHARLES F. HOLLAND SR.

Mr. Charles F. Holland, Sr., age 82 of Thomaston, GA died Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Piedmont Fayetteville, GA. 

Mr. Holland was born on January 25, 1936 in Oakwood, GA to the late W.A. Holland and Lucille Smith Holland. Mr. Holland served in the United States Army from 1958 until 1960. He worked many years in the trucking industry and retired from Walsh & Associates in Atlanta, GA in 1998. He moved to Thomaston, GA and started living his dream of farming which he did until his death. He loved going to his markets and the people he met there. Mr. Holland was an active member and inactive deacon of Mt. View Baptist Church in Thomaston, GA.

He is survived by his wife Joyce Gilbert Holland of 62 years. He is also survived by his three children Elizabeth Holland-Hutson, Lori (Mark) Kelly and Chuck (Lisa) Holland. He had five grand children Hope (Josh) Morgan, Kelli (Mike) Bero, Kara (Alex) Nelson, Joel Holland and Kelly Holland. He had 4 great grandchildren Faith Morgan, Morgan Nelson, Grace Morgan and Levi Bero. He is also survived by his sister Carolyn (Ray) Edge and his brother Randall (Linda) Long. He has also numerous nieces and nephews. 

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday November 10, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. from Mountain View Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Mountain View Baptist Church on Saturday November 10, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

MRS. BETTY DEEN

Mrs. Agnes Elizabeth "Betty" Deen, age 76, of Thomaston Ga, died Thursday, November 1, 2018, at Riverside Health and Rehab. 

Mrs. Deen was born June 18, 1942, in Wilkes County GA, to the late Charles W. and Lois Anderson Hopkins. She was a teacher and homemaker. She was a member of the 1st Arbor Board for Thomaston, member of the Thomaston First United Methodist Church, served as chairman of the Advent wreath committee as well as the Alter committee of the Thomaston First United Methodist Church. She served for several years as the secretary of the Pine Mountain Trail association, the Tax Assessors Board for Thomaston-Upson County. She was the love of her children and two grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her son, Dr. Byron Floyd Deen, bother, Allan (Connie) Hopkins, and a sister, Joyce (Wilbur) Harper

Survivors are her husband, Dr. Johnny T. Deen; son, Dr. K. Murray (Jessica) Deen; sister, Nelda (Tommy) Reece; brother, David (Gwen) Hopkins; grandchildren, Kenneth Murray Deen Jr., and Jenna Bette Deen.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, November 4, 2018, at 3:00 PM at the Thomaston First United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Ouida Deanna Quigley, 72 of Meansville died October 31, 2018 at Upson Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Quigley was born November 14, 1945 in Macon, GA to the late John Brannon and Ouida Louise Eden Hammonds.
She was a member of Thomaston First United Methodist Church and will always be remembered by the love she gave to her husband, children and grandchildren.

MR. WILLIAM BENJAMIN GRAY

Mr. William Benjamin Gray, age 81, of Yatesville, died Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at his residence.

Mr. Gray was born March 15, 1937, in Upson County to the late William Eldridge and Nancy Turner Gray. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service as Operations Manager, was a member of King's Chapel Baptist Church, and U.S. Army Reserve Veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Gray; daughter, Toni (Clark) Spence; son, William Joseph (Glenda) Gray; sisters, Barbara (Richard) Tyson, and Connie (A.C.) Kile; sister-in-law, Linia Gray; grandchildren, Holly Gentry, Michael Gentry, Joshua (Joni) Gray, and Benjamin Gray. He is preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Gray.

Mrs. Lois Wynell Allen, age 78, of Thomaston Ga, died Tuesday, October 23, 2018, at Providence Health and Rehab. 

Mrs. Allen was born December 28, 1939, in Upson County to the late Albert and Nannie Stewart. She retired from the Upson County Hospital as a Pediatric Nurse, and was a member of the Thomaston First Assembly of God and the LPN Association.

She is preceded in death by her husband, E. J. Allen; and sister, Ruth Childree. Survivors are her daughter, Fay (Glen) Berryhill; son, Ron Fredrick (Megan Rose) Allen; sisters, Martha (Tommy) Morrow, and Elsie Voss; brother, Franklin (Jolly) Stewart; grandchildren, Jared Huckaby, Bonnie Futch, Joni Allen, Katie Allen, Jeff Berryhill, Ben Berryhill, and Beth Shepard; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Herring was born April 1, 1931, in Thomaston to the late Tommy Sanford and Mary Thelma Herring. He retired as Pastor of First Easton Baptist Church, Easton Maryland. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Thomaston, and a U.S. Navy Veteran.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Denise Davis; and son, Fredrick David Herring. Survivors are his wife, LaRose Herring; son Timothy Glen (Kimberly) Herring; brother, Henry Avery (Sandra) Herring; grandchildren, Samuel Elijah Davis, Jesse Ryan Herring, and Braden Timothy Herring.

Mr. Pollard was born on January 30, 1966 in Thomaston Ga, to Bennie Frank Pollard Sr., and Geraldine Bourgeois Watson. He was employed with Outback Enterprises where he worked as a welder. Mr. Pollard was a member of Hendricks Baptist Church.

Mr. Shumate was born March 7, 1948 in Upson County, GA to the late Bentley and Hattie Mae Blanton Shumate. He worked at Standard Textile and retired from Thomaston Mills with 35 years of service. 

Survivors include his wife Cynthia Smith Shumate of Thomaston, daughter, Michelle Shumate Daniel and her husband Mike of Thomaston, sons, Dewayne Shumate and his wife Casey of Ft. Valley, GA and Chad Shumate and his wife Angie of Thomaston, half brother, Wendell Blanton, five grandchildren, Nick Goodman and his wife Deann, Josh Goodman, Jade Shumate, Leah Shumate and Zac Shumate, five great-grandchildren, Nicholas Goodman, Adalyn Goodman, Autry Goodman, Gill Marcus and Frankie Marcus.

Mr. Shumate was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Norman Shumate and a sister, Patsy Owenby.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Charlene Sewell Stitcher; brother, Kerry Ray Stitcher; maternal grandmother, Anita Hayes; and paternal grandfather Jimmy Stitcher Sr. Survivors are his mother, Brenda Stitcher; father, Jimmy (Angie) Stitcher Jr; step-sisters, Kimberly Staley, Kelsey Staley, Karen Staley, Kinzie Staley, and Anna Staley; brothers, Cody Stitcher, Ryan Allison, and David Tidwell; step-brother, Ryan Staley; maternal grandfather,James Edward Ellerbee; paternal-grandparents, John and Bessie Howard.
