JOANNE BECKHAM REEVES

Joanne Beckham Reeves, age 73, of Thomaston, passed away June 28, 2021, at her home. She was born in Thomaston, daughter of the late Edward Beckham and Vivian Quinn Beckham. Joanne graduated from R. E. Lee High and then earned her Bachelor’s degree from Mercer University. She worked for Upson County DFACS and was currently working at Walmart in Thomaston. Joanne liked to gamble, lay in the sun, and go on cruises. She was always laughing and was loved by everyone. She especially enjoyed spending time with her daughters and her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Eddie Beckham.

She is survived by her daughters: Christy Pope and Julie Peoples (Rodney) all of Thomaston; grandchildren: Ivy Pope Bridges (Mason), Brody Peoples and Emma Kate Peoples.

Friends may visit the family on Friday, July 2, 2-3 p.m., at the funeral home. A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home.

MR. BILLY HARVEY WILLIAMS

Mr. Billy Harvey Williams age 85 of Thomaston Ga., passed away Saturday June 26, 2021 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Williams was born on April 25, 1936 in Bartow Ga., to the late Carl Harvey Williams and the late Mary Ola Cox Williams. He worked for the Georgia Department of Transportation as a Civil Engineer for many years until his retirement. Mr. Williams is a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. He served his country in the U.S. Army National Guard. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister Edith Williams McSwain. He loved Nascar and was an avid Kyle Bush fan.

Survivors include his wife Carlene Garner Williams of Thomaston Ga., daughters Regina Williams (John) Warnock of Bay Springs Ms., Ashley Williams Salter of Lagrange Ga., brother Bruce Williams of East Ridge TN., grandchildren Brayden Salter & Grayson Salter.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday June 28, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Coggins Funeral Home on Monday June 28, 2021 from 2:30 p.m.- 4:00 p.m.

MR. JERRY R. HUCKABY SR.

Mr. Jerry R. "Ronnie" Huckaby, Sr., age 80, of Thomaston, died Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services for Mr. Huckaby will be held Friday, June 25, at 3:00 PM, in the Fletcher-Day Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dean Hemphill officiating. Interment will follow the service in Upson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at the funeral home.

MR. CARL BRUCE JAMES

Mr. Carl Bruce James, age 82, of Thomaston, died Monday, June 21, 2021, at his residence.

Mr. James was born on July 3, 1938 in Thomaston, to the late Carl Lee James, and the late Louise Eubanks James. He retired from Yamaha after 24 years as the Maintenance Supervisor, and was a member of Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witness Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughters, Kimberly James and Melody James Kemp, and sister, Patsy McLemore.

Survivors include his wife, Janis Morris James of Thomaston, Kayla James (Randy) Teal of Thomaston, sister, Elenor Belcher of Thomaston, grandchildren, Steven Thompson, Jennifer Pitts, David Martin, Janice Kemp, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Southview Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, at Coggins Funeral Home.

MR. CHARLES LUCIOUS OWSLEY JR.

Mr. Charles Lucious "Luke" Owsley, Jr., 60, of Thomaston, died on Sunday,June 20, 2021 at his home.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, June 25, 2021 at 11:00 AM in South View Cemetery with Rev. Brandon Redden officiating.

MR. PAUL ROGERS

Mr. Watson Paul Rogers, age 58, of Thomaston, died Saturday, June 19, 2021, at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Rogers was born on August 21, 1962, in Chicago, IL., to the late Hugh Rogers, and the late Frances Durrough Rogers. He retired from Upson County in 2014, as the Building and Maintenance Superintendent. Prior to that he worked for Thomaston Mills. He coached many Rec Department football and baseball teams, and church league softball. Mr. Rogers was a member of Clark's Chapel Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Judy teal.

Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Melinda Ellington Rogers of Thomaston; daughter, Ashley (Josh) Bagley of Thomaston; son, Jordan (Chelle) Rogers of Thomaston; brother, John Wallace; sisters, Belinda Mazurkiewicz of Alabama, and Elizabeth Green; grandchildren, Kolton Snyder, Levi Bagley, and Ella-Kate Bagley; and nephew, Matt (Amanda) Teal of Warner Robins.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, from 6:00 p.m - 8:00 p.m at Coggins Funeral Home.

MR. JAMES CLARK ELLERBEE

Mr. James Clark "Crackcorn" Ellerbee age 91 of Thomaston Ga., passed away Friday June 18, 2021 at Riverside Health and Rehab.

Mr. Ellerbee was born on February 1, 1930 in Thomaston, to the late Robert M. Ellerbee and the late Willie Lee Holliman Ellerbee. He was a self employed master carpenter, and a member of Hendricks Baptist Church. Mr. Ellerbee served his country in the US Army in Korea. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Doris McDaniel Ellerbee, brother, Robert Lee (Margaret) Ellerbee, and sister Eleanor (Alvin) Jimmerson.

Survivors include his sons, Rodney (Francine) Ellerbee of Watkinsville, Kevin (Lola) Ellerbee of Molena, grandchildren, Crystal Messner, Megan Barker, and five great-grandchildren, special nieces, Andrea, Brenda, Linda, and Bonnie.

MR. KALON LEE KNIGHT

Mr. Kalon Lee Knight age 61 of Thomaston Ga., died Thursday June 17, 2021 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Knight was born on September 25, 1959 in Thomaston, to the late Don Kalon Knight, and the late Joyce Adair Salter. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, J.C. Knight.

Survivors include his step-mother, Sarah Knight of Headland, AL, daughter, Kaylynn Knight of Ninety Six, SC., sons, Kollin (Bridgett) Knight of Norfolk, VA., brother, Don Knight of Thomaston and Eric (Amanda) Knight of Headland, AL, sisters, Vickie (Randall) Coogler of Thomaston, Susan Knight Frichter of Headland, AL., and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, June 20, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. from Sprewell Bluff.

Mr. Floyd Alton Strickland, 86, of Andiron Court Stone Mountain, GA and formerly of Upson County passed on Monday, June 14, 2021 at his residence.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at the Thomaston-Upson County Civic Center. Burial will be held in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville, GA.

MRS. SUSIE VIRGINIA CARMICHAEL

Mrs. Susie Virginia "TOOD" Carmichael age 85 of Thomaston GA, passed away Thursday, June 10, 2021, at Riverside Health and Rehab.

Funeral services will be Sunday, June 13, 2021, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Carmichael was born September 7, 1935, in Pike Co. GA to the late Otis and Susie Laughter Bethune. She was retired from Loving Care Day Nursery and was a member of Pritchett Memorial Baptist Church.

Mrs. Carmichael was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James A. Carmichael, grandson, Jonathan McCarty, son-in-law, Ralph Ellington, brothers, Jim and Aubrey Bethune, and sisters, Versie Hill and Ruthie Foster.

Survivors include her daughters, Faye Smoot of Thomaston, Becky Ellington of Thomaston, son, Lewis Carmichael, and his wife Liz of Thomaston, sister-in-law, Brenda Holston husband Bill of Thomaston, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday, June 12, 2021, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Coggins Funeral Home.

MRS. ELIZABETH COLLEEN TAYLOR

Mrs. Elizabeth Colleen Taylor, age 96, of Thomaston, died Thursday, June 10, 2021 at her residence.

Mrs. Taylor was born on June 23, 1924 in Gastonia North Carolina to the late Cola Arnold Moore and the late Mary Lee Gaskins Moore. She worked as a switch board operator for Upson Regional Medical Center for many years and was a member of Church of Christ.

Survivors include her daughter Mary Helen (Jesse) Smith, sister Maxine Stephens, grandchildren Lawrence Shane (Amanda) Smith, Sherri Dawn (Jim) Horrell, great grandchildren Colleen Daniel Hawkins, Brianna Christine Cleveland, Adam Scott Petroff, Jessica Lawrence Waterman, Aislinn Horrell, Lucy Horrell, Nate Horrell, great great grandchildren Liam Matthew Goddard, Ian Christopher Goddard, honorary grandchild Amber Nichole Isbell, extended family Peggy Sheree (Daniel) Fleming, Wanda Ober, a host of nieces, nephews and friends also survive.

Memorial Services will be held on Sunday June 13, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. from Church of Christ on McCorkle Curve Rd. with Brother Richard Tyson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

MR. DAVID MARTIN "MARTY" HAMMOCK

Mr. David Martin "Marty" Hammock age 62 of Thomaston Ga., passed away Thursday June 10, 2021 at his residence.

Mr. Hammock was born on July 13, 1958, in Thomaston, to the late Samuel Hammock and the late Marie Keen Hammock. He worked for the GA Department of Corrections for 27 years, and a meat cutter for 30 years. After retirement he worked at URMC as a security guard, and was a member of Christ Chapel. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Vickie Hammock.

Survivors include his wife, Gail Middlebrooks Hammock of Thomaston, daughter, Mandy (Brock) Jackson of Thomaston, son, Brian (Lisa) Hammock of Thomaston, and 6 grandchildren.

MRS. GLENDA ROBERTS

Mrs. Glenda Roberts, age 74, of Thomaston, died Sunday, June 6, 2021, at her residence.

Mrs. Roberts was born on May 30, 1947, in Thomaston, to the late Willie Roberts and the late Mae Bell Walls Roberts. She was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her daughter, Tammy (Gabe) Price of Thomaston, son, James (Jennifer) Woodard of Land O' Lakes, FL., brothers, Gene (Vikki) Roberts of Thomaston, Dwayne Roberts of Thomaston, Wilburn (Judy) Roberts of Rex, sister, Florence (Cecil) McHaffie of Stone Mountain, grandchildren, Brittany (Blaine) Brantley, Taylor Price, Zander Price, Payton Woodard, and several nieces and nephews.

MR. JERRY RICHARDS

Mr. Jerry Richards age 70 of Thomaston Ga., passed away Friday June 4, 2021 at his residence.

Mr. Richards was born on June 16, 1950 in Thomasville Ga., to the late Merle Richards and the late Irene Holland Richards. He worked in the banking industry for 43 years. Mr. Richards served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He attended Fellowship Baptist Church and was a member of several civic organizations including the Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Gloria Richards of Thomaston Ga., daughter Mrs. Gwyn (Matt) Gordon of Thomaston Ga., son Mr. Brett (Jacqueline) Richards of Marietta Ga., 4 grandchildren, 6 brothers & 1 sister also survive.

Mrs. Margie Jean Murphy Trammell, age 73, of Meansville, died, Friday June 4, 2021, at her residence.

Mrs. Trammell was born September 3, 1947, in Hammond, IN., to the late George Murphy and the late Anita Ferguson Murphy. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist Faith. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her sisters, Carol Graff and Jackie Murphy.

Survivors include her husband. Robert Trammell of Meansville, daughter, Michelle Holcumb of Griffin, son, Mark (Cindy) Andrade of The Rock, grandchildren, Christopher Lowe, Brandon Andrade, Krystin Andrade, Nicholas Andrade, and eight great-grandchildren.

RADIO PERSONALITY BILL CHAPMAN

Mr. Bill "Billy" Chapman age 78 of Thomaston Ga., passed away Monday May 31, 2021 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Chapman was born on March 17, 1943 in Upson County, to the late, William Carvis Chapman, and the late Mary Ellen Harden Chapman. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Betty Louise Johnson. 

He said before he died the most influential man in his life was his daddy William Carvis Chapman who taught him how to be a man. He said the most important thing in his life, is our savior Jesus Christ who gave up his life to be crucified on the cross giving us eternal life with our loved ones in Heaven. Bill was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church and Taught young Adults Sunday school Class. 

He was DJ for many years at WSFT in Thomaston and Sales Manager at WTGA (Fun 101) in Thomaston and Sales Manager at WKEU FM in Griffin. He worked with Rex King as a Disc Jockey also former Sheriff Don Peacock as a Disc Jockey. He was awarded DJ of the year at the CMA Awards show in 1990 and He was inducted into the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame 1994. 

Bill had a perfect attendance Record from 1st to 12 grade. He went by the name of Billy as a child and changed to Bill in Radio. He said if anybody ask and wants to speak to Billy he knows they’re old friends and he will always answer because it was someone who had known him a long time. He had a Tennis Scholarship in College with an undefeated record. He was a paratrooper in the Army Airborne, while attending army training at Fort Lee VA he was appointed acting Company Commander over trainees. He was awarded expert with Rifle in the Army. Highest Medal Awarded.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Winters Chapman of Thomaston, daughters, Sherry (Lee) Sumner of Woodland, Michelle (Jim) Smith of Molena, sons, Clay (Lacy) Chapman of Thomaston, Sandy (Pam Worth) Chapman of Fruithurst, AL, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday June 3, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. from Trinity Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Upson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.
