MR. REGINALD L. ODOM

Mr. Reginald L. "Reggie" Odom, 69, of Thomaston, died Wednesday, January27, 2021, and Navicent Health in Macon. 

Memorial services for Mr. Odom will be held Saturday, January 30, at 12:00 PM, in the chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the service time.

Daniel Grady (Dan) Haygood, Jr.

Daniel Grady Haygood, Jr., passed away peacefully at his home in Thomaston on January 26, 2021, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

He was born July 20, 1935, to Daniel Grady Haygood, Sr., and Nannie Celia Abercrombie Haygood in Culloden and lived there for many years. He graduated from Mary Persons High School in Forsyth where he still enjoyed friendships from those days and had very fond memories of playing on the football team.

Dan married Ruth Martin of Forsyth and they were blessed with 3 sons: Daniel, Steve and Scott. Moving to Thomaston in 1973, Dan and Ruth developed and settled their beloved Curtain Forrest neighborhood.

Growing up in his family’s various agricultural endeavors, he later transitioned to insurance and financial services along with other fascinating entrepreneurial ventures. For many years he enjoyed vegetable gardening, giving it up only as the local deer population dined relentlessly in his garden. Dan was a devoted church servant being a member and deacon first at Culloden Primitive Baptist Church and then Grace Primitive Baptist Church.

His parents, Daniel Grady Haygood, Sr., and Nannie Celia Abercrombie Haygood, and his grandson, Samuel Lawton Haygood, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 66 years, Ruth, and by Daniel Curtis and Cynthia Harney Haygood of Watkinsville, Steven Forrest Haygood of Butler and Scott Alan and Stefanie Sigler Haygood of Alpharetta; granddaughter Caitlin McNabb Haygood of Atlanta and grandsons Brenton West Haygood of Athens, William Dean Haygood of Auburn, AL, and Taylor Scott Haygood of Alpharetta.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grace Primitive Baptist Church.

A service celebrating his life will be announced at a later date.

MRS. FRANCES MOONEY HANNAH

Mrs. Frances Mooney Hannah, 86, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Riverside Health and Rehab.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Hannah will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at 1:00 PM in Meriwether Memorial Gardens in Manchester with Rev. Johnny Jones officiating.
 
Mrs. Hannah was born in Thomaston on September 14, 1934, a daughter of the late Enos and Anne May Hudson Mooney. She was a retired sales associate and had been employed by Goodies Hair Products and The Belk Company.
Mrs. Hannah is survived by her daughter, Deborah Thomas of Tifton; two grandchildren, Christopher (Rebecca) Thomas and Jonathan (Raina) Thomas; and three great grandchildren, Wyatt, June and Penelope Thomas, all of Tifton.

MR. CALVIN WINTON PARRISH

Mr. Calvin Winton Parrish age 88 of Woodland Ga, passed away Sunday January 24, 2021 at his residence.

Mr. Parrish was born on January 27, 1932 in Quincy , FL, to the late Calvin Jennings Parrish and the late Lessie Alford Parrish. He worked as a Deputy Director and Attorney for the Laboratory of Improvement at the CDC in Atlanta, GA, and served his country in the United States Air Force. Mr. Calvin was a member of the Masonic Lodge Orion # 8, and the State Bar of Georgia. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his first wife, Dora Lou Parrish, and his son Jason Alford Parrish.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Addison Parrish and a host of cousins.

The family will have a private family service in Marianna, FL at a later date.

MRS. BARBARA ANN YARBROUGH

Mrs. Barbara Ann Yarbrough age 74 of Thomaston Ga, passed away Sunday January 24, 2021 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Yarbrough was born on July 13, 1946 in Upson County, to the late William Edward Pitts and the late Mary Frances Smith Pitts. She worked as a nurse in the operating room at Upson Regional Medical Center. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, James L. Yarbrough.

Survivors include her son, Alan (Kimberli) Yarbrough of Thomaston, mother-in-law, Johnnie Yarbrough of Thomaston, stepmother, Doris Pitts, grandchildren, Jessica (Jeremy) Tyson, Kristina (Matthew) Coleman, Jeannie (Nelson) Grammer, Abby Fuchs, Tanner Yarbrough, great-grandchildren, Jalah Coleman, Phoebe Coleman, Huxley Grammer, Maggie Grammer, Brooklyn Fuchs, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. from Fellowship Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Southview Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.

Mr. James Alfred "Jim" Hester, Jr.

Mr. James Alfred "Jim" Hester, Jr., age 63, of Thomaston, died Thursday, January 21, 2021, at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services for Mr. Hester will be held outdoors at the Pavilion of The Gathering Church on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at 4:00 PM. Rev. Joey Smith will officiate and burial will follow in South View Cemetery. The family of Mr. Hester will receive friends at The Gathering Church Pavilion on Sunday from 3:00 PM until the funeral hour.

Mr. Hester was a life-long resident of Thomaston. He was born on May 30, 1957, son of Dr. James Alfred and Marie Hilley Hester, Sr. He was a 1975 graduate of R. E. Lee Institute.

Mr. Hester was employed by Yamaha Manufacturing Company for 19 years. He was later the owner/operator of the Little Garden Center, and also managed the Garden Patch Restaurant. More recently he was employed as a school bus driver by the Thomaston-Upson County Board of Education. He was a Mason and a Shriner.

Mr. Hester was a member of the East Thomaston Baptist Church and served as a Deacon. He was a drummer and enjoyed music. He was ultimately a proud and loving grandfather to five grandchildren.

Mr. Hester is survived by his wife, Debra McCrary Hester; two daughters, Ashley Hester (Dusty) Turner and Lynsey (Darrin Norris) Hester; a sister, Sarah Hester (Scott) Ross of Colorado Springs, CO; and five grandchildren, Jake Helms, Zayn Norris, Zoey Norris, Sam Turner and Lilly Turner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Hester.

MR. JOHN JAMES HAYGOOD III

Mr. John James Haygood III, 65, of Yatesville, died Sunday, January 17, 2021at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital.

Private graveside funeral services for family only will be held in the Pierson Cemetery in Culloden, GA with Elder William Bishop officiating.

Mr. Haygood was born on October 24, 1955, a son of the late Viola Harrell and John James Haygood, Jr. He was a graduate of Yatesville High School. After high school he joined the family dairy business, Haygood Farms. He partnered with his cousin, Jeff Haygood, Jr., until his passing.

Mr. Haygood was married for 44 years to Angeli Butts Haygood. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Aimee (Jenn Hoselton) Haygood of Chapel Hill, NC, Lori H. (Zeke) Harvey of Griffin, Wendy H. (Ted) Jones of Yatesville and Katie H. (Matt) Smith of Thomaston; two sisters, Kathy (Rodney) Jackson of Round Oak, and Joyce (Tommy) Glisson of Greensboro; and seven grandchildren, Landen Jones, Gibson Jones, Reynolds Harvey, John Thomas Harvey, Levi Haygood, Ace Haygood, and Mattie Kate Smith.

Mr. Robert Kane Brown, age 62, of Thomaston, died, Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Brown was born on September 13, 1958, in Georgetown, GA, to the late Charles Brown, and the late Berta Moore Brown. He was a member of McCorkle Curve Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death his son, Charles Brown.

Survivors include his wife, Stacey O'Neal Brown of Thomaston, daughters, Mckenzie (Chris) Topang of Lakeland, Audrey Peavey of Lakeland, Piper Brown of Thomaston, Marisa Tyson of Thomaston, brother, Roy Brown of Newnan, and grandson, Mateo Topang.

Mrs. Veronica Irma Ingram Knight, age 91, of Thomaston, died, Sunday, January 17, 2021 at her residence.

Mrs. Knight was born on September 2, 1929, in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Stephen Ingram, and the late Merion Miller Ingram. She worked as a telephone operator for Bellsouth, and was of the Catholic Faith. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Albert Ernest Knight, brothers, Stephen and Thomas Ingram, sisters, Anna Reddy, and Marion "Peanut" DeGennaro.

Survivors include her daughters, Ronnie McLaughlin of Thomaston, Donna Tonnessen of High Falls, Sandra Knight of Thomaston, sons, Albert Steven Knight of Locust Grove, William J. Knight of Taylor County, grandchildren, Andrea, Jackie, Michael, Stacey, husband Rick, Rich, wife Donna, Keith, wife Rhonda, Michele, Heather, Matthew, 11 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

MR. MYRON SCOTT LACKEY

Mr. Myron Scott Lackey, age 57, of Warner Robins, passed away January 17, 2021, at his home. He was born in Atlanta, son of the late Albert Paul Lackey and Edna Ellen White Lackey. Myron was a self-employed mechanic. He enjoyed working on small motors and fishing. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Macon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Robin Lackey Edwards.

He is survived by his sister, brothers and their spouses: Toni and Edward Peacock Jr. of Macon, Paul and Crystal Lackey of Milner, Mark Lackey of Macon, Donald (Andy) Lackey of Macon and Michael Lackey of Griffin; brother-in-law and caretaker: Freddie Edwards of Warner Robins; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

MR. BILLY JEAN ROGERS

Mr. Billy Jean Rogers, age 83, of Thomaston, died Saturday, January 16, 2021, at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Rogers was born on July 29, 1937, in Concord, to the late Carl N. Rogers, and the late Grace Legg Rogers. He worked as a welder. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers, Clarence Rogers, and Lamar Rogers.

Billy loved his family unconditionally, always putting them first. His wit, charm and humbleness endeared him to everyone he met. His daily walk was a reflection of his walk with Jesus Christ. He was a Navy Veteran who served his country with honor. He continued to be drawn to the ocean and beaches to the very end. He was very loved and respected in this life and for eternity.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda Smith Rogers, daughters, Angela M Rogers (Freddy) Butts, Sharon Rogers (Lee) Oxford, Sheree Rogers (Carl Swails) Murphy, Cindy H. (Wade) Marshall, Becky S. Montgomery, Leisa G. (James) Collins, brother, Bobby (Sue) Rogers, 11 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

The family will be having a service on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.

MS. KAREN ANN DONATO COKER

Karen Ann Donato Coker, age 67, of Thomaston, passed away January 16, 2021, at Upson Regional Medical Center. For many years Karen worked as a CNA at Riverside Health and Rehab. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Thomaston. Karen enjoyed crocheting, reading, playing rummy and solitaire. She was a good person with a heart of gold and she always enjoyed talking and having company.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Coker.

She is survived by her brother: Frank Donato of MO; sister-in-law and caregiver: Edna McCard of Thomaston; brother-in-law: Andrew Coker of Thomaston; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to thank Thomaston Hospice for the excellent care they gave to Karen.

Mr. Henry Andrew Beverly age 75 of Thomaston Ga, passed away Thursday January 14, 2021 at The Medical Center of Central Ga.

Mr. Beverly was born on August 26, 1945 in Thomaston, to the late Robert Beverly, and the late Louise Townsend Beverly Crisp. He worked in central heating and air and was a member of East Thomaston Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, David Beverly, Johnny Beverly, James Beverly, Danny Beverly, Curtis Beverly, sisters, Dottie Presley, Faye Waddle, and grandson, Steven Bond.

MR, WALTER E. "GENE" HAMMOND

Mr. Walter E. "Gene" Hammond age 89 of Thomaston Ga, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Wednesday January 13, 2021 at Riverside Health and Rehab.

Mr. Hammond was born on October 10, 1931, to the late William T. Hammond and the late Lillie Mae Ellerbee Hammond. He retired from Upson EMC with 40 years of service and he also served on the Upson EMC Board of Directors for an additional 20 years. He served as a Deacon of Valley Grove Baptist Church and was involved in community organizations serving Thomaston and Upson County, was a Mason for 50 years. In his retirement he enjoyed sawmilling and woodworking, leaving beautiful pieces for his family and friends to enjoy.

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Romie Lou Dowdy Hammond, son, Scotty (Donna) Hammond, grandchildren, Brian (Kelly) Hammond, Carrie Tidwell, 3 great-grandchildren, Corey Calvert, Carlie (Isaac) Daniel, and Walker Hammond. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He is preceded in death by daughter, Leigh Ann Minyard, brother Frank "Bud" Hammond, sister, Evelyn "Pete" Matthews.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday January 17, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Valley Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 17, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.

MRS. SARA GLORIA PILCHER BISHOP

Mrs. Sara Gloria Pilcher Bishop age 80 of Thomaston Ga, passed away Thursday January 14, 2021 at Harborview Health and Rehab.

Mrs. Bishop was born on June 19, 1940 in Meansville to the late Herbert Evans Pilcher and the late Dora Mae Killingsworth Pilcher. She worked as a nurse at Roberta Nursing Home for 35 years and a truck driver for 20 years, and she was a member of Jeff Davis Missionary Baptist and the VFW Post #6447. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her daughter, Rhonda Bevel, sister, Opal Salter.

Survivors include her daughter, Renie (Rick) Gibson, sons, Randy (Kim) Bishop, Rodney Bishop, brother, Douglas "Bubba" Pilcher, sisters, Elaine Berry, Joan Blount, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Sunday January 17, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. from Pine Mountain Church of the Nazarene Cemetery. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the request of the family there will be no stated visitation but Mrs. Bishop will lie in state at Coggins Funeral Home until the day of the graveside service.

MRS. CHARLOTTE HUGHES

Mrs. Charlotte Hughes age, 79, of Thomaston, died Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Hughes was born in Atlanta, and was the daughter of the late, George and Lena Morgan. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Chuck Hughes, brothers, Howard and Walter Morgan, sister, Glenna Atkins.

Her passion was her family and her children, Doug Morrow of Texas, Scott Morrow of Texas, Joyce Kirkland of Alabama, and Ritha Mae of Macon, sisters, Ritha Turner of Clayton, Cindy Ferguson of Senoia, Marilyn Bailey of Ashburn, special nephew, Daniel Turner, sixteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Mr. Jerry Douglas Thrasher, age 77, of Thomaston, died Wednesday January 13, 2021, at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Thrasher was born on June 16, 1943, in Raybon County, to the late, Moses Lee Thrasher and the late Fennie Flemmings Thrasher. He worked at Edenfields Vending as a Meat Cutter and attended Mt. View Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Mike Thrasher, brothers, Lee Thrasher, Jimmy Thrasher, Aaron Thrasher, James Thrasher, sisters, Connie McDaniel, and Jeanette Peaugh.

Survivors include his wife, Deborah Wainwright Thrasher, daughter, Tracy Thrasher, sons, Mark Thrasher, Jeff (Jeannie) Taylor, brother, Roger (Linda) Thrasher, sister, Avonell Rogers, grandchildren, Logan Taylor, Hayley O'neal, Crystal Taylor, Ashton Thrasher, Austin Thrasher, Dillon Booth, Marcus Blount, Micheal Thrasher, Justin Thrasher, Katie Thrasher, Dalton Thrasher, Lucy Beeland, and eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Kathy Gibson Neeley age 66 of Thomaston Ga, passed away Tuesday January 12, 2021 at her residence.

Mrs. Neeley was born on December 19, 1954 in Thomaston Ga, to the late William S. Gibson and the late Martha Thompson Gibson. She was formerly employed with Southern Crescent where she worked as the head of admissions. Mrs. Neeley was a member of Northridge Church. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband James "Mike" Neeley.

Survivors include her daughter Amy (Marc) Ellington of Thomaston Ga, brother Chuck (Mary) Gibson of Thomaston Ga, sisters Pat Turner Marshall of Thomaston Ga, Willene Eubanks of Thomaston Ga, grandchildren Cale Ellington, Anna Claire Ellington, nieces and nephews also survive.

MR. JAMES E. BURNETTE

Mr. James E. Burnette lovingly known as "Pop" age 83 of Thomaston Ga, went to be with his Lord & Savior on Friday January 8, 2021 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Burnette was born on November 18, 1937 in Thomaston Ga, to the late Hugh Burnette and the late Sallie Mae Burnette. He enjoyed many years of camping, hunting, fishing, laughing and wise-cracking with friends and family. Mr. Burnette was diagnosed with Myelodysplatic Syndrome in 2016. He was blessed with wonderful medical professionals who cared for him throughout his illness, and his family will forever be grateful to the doctors, nurses, and all support staff for their efforts, honesty and respect. Mr. Burnette was a member of Emory's Chapel Baptist Church where he was ordained as a deacon on March 6, 1977 and faithfully served since that time. He served his country in the Army National Guard.

Mr. Burnette is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Shirley Joyce Humphrey Burnette, his children Terri Brock, Toni Watkins and Matthew (Kimberly) Burnette. He was blessed with 4 grandchildren Lauren Taylor Bray, Levi Parker, Troy James Burnette and Maddi Hoodenpyle and a faithful beloved companion Bandit, one brother Hulon (Joy) Burnette, nieces and nephews Kathy (Shane) Pollard, Chris (Jena) Burnette, Cassie (Brent) Johnson and many loving cousins and wonderful friends also survive.

MR. ELMO MCKENZIE BOYT

Mr. Elmo McKenzie Boyt age 78 of Meansville Ga, passed away Tuesday January 5, 2021 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Boyt was born on January 11, 1942 in Yatesville, to the late Elmo Boyt and the late Evelyn Pierson Boyt. He worked at Thomaston Mills and Green Acres and was a member of the Lighthouse Pentecostal Church. Mr. Elmo served his country in the U.S. Marines and the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, sisters, and grandson, Chais Boyt.

Survivors include, his wife, Brenda Boyt of Meansville, daughter, Lori (Jeannie) Boyt of Thomaston, sons, Chris (Cathy) Boyt of Thomaston, Dale (Kayla) Boyt of Thomaston, sister, Jean Hamilton of Barnesville, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

MR. WILLIAM "LAVERNE" WILSON

Mr. William "Laverne" Warren, 84, of Thomaston, died Wednesday, January 6,2021 at his home.

Funeral services for Mr. Warren will be held on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Fletcher-Day Funeral Home with Rev. Jason Weeks officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in South View Cemetery. The family of Mr. Warren will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

Mr. Warren was born in Thomaston on July 26, 1936, a son of the late WIlliam Terrell and Evelyn McKinley Warren. He was a graduate of R. E. Lee Institute and served as a JROTC Company Commander. Mr. Warren served his country in the U. S. Army from 1954 through 1957. He served in Korea and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a retired auto mechanic for Gill's Garage in Griffin. Mr. Warren enjoyed hunting and
fishing Mr. Warren was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church / New Hope Campus.

Mr. Warren is survived by two daughters, Julie (James) Galt of Marietta and Lori (Carl) Bissantz of Newnan; a son, Jeff (Kaye) Warren of Forsyth; a sister, Teresa (John)Campbell; six grandchildren and three great
grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Claire H. Warren, and a sister, Elaine W. Brown.

Mr. Eddie Heaton, age 69, of Jackson, died Wednesday January 6, 2021 at South Georgia Medical Center.

Mr. Heaton was born on January 8, 1951 in Thomaston, to the late Ralph Heaton and the late Betty Marlowe Heaton. He was owner and operator of Heaton Home Inspection , and was a member of Rock Springs Church. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Heaton.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie Burgner Heaton of Jackson, sons, Shane Heaton of Gainsville, GA, Brandon Heaton of Barnesville, sisters, Linda Murphy of Thomaston, Darlene Dickerson of Thomaston, grandchildren, Dylan (Emily) Tootle, Dakota Heaton, Caitlin Tootle, Makayla Jones, and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. David Lee Bragg, age 69, died Friday, January 1, 2021, at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Bragg was born on September 28, 1951 in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late Henry Otis Bragg Jr. and the late Bonnie Lee Stephenson Bragg. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Tim and Tom Bragg, and sister, Linda Bragg Hunt.

Survivors include his daughter, April Mapp of Valley, AL, son, David Lee (Ashley) Bragg Jr. of Gloucester, VA, brother, Leslie (Mary) Bragg of Zebulon, sister, Elaine (Gary) Leonard of Williamson, and grandchild, Noah Lee Bragg.

Mrs. Garcia-De Quevedo was born on February 28, 1963, in Avon Park, Florida, to the late Bill Wiggins and the late Wanda Sue Sapp Sullivan Wiggins. She attended St. Peter The Rock Catholic Church. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her sister, Peggy Johnson.

Survivors include her husband, Frank Garcia-De Quevedo of Molena, daughter, Kelli Lynn Kelleher of Dallas, GA, and sister, Janice Taylor of Lake Placid, Florida.

Mr. Lee was born on February 21, 1957 in Thomaston to the late Oscar Alfonzo Lee and the late Betty Sue Towery Lee. He was retired and worked for Glenn's Handy Repair, and was a member of Vega Community Church. He is preceded in death by his parents.
