MR. JOE LOUIS WILLIAMS

Mr. Joe Louis Williams, 83, of Highway 80 passed on Monday, March 29th in the Upson Regional Medical Center.

Graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 1st at 11:00 A.M. at the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.

Public visitation will take place on today, Wednesday, March 31st, from 12:00 Noon until 4:30 P.M.

MS. VICKIE LYNN CLEVELAND TOOMEY

Ms. Vickie Lynn Cleveland Toomey age 53 of Thomaston Ga, passed away Tuesday March 30, 2021 at her residence. Funeral Arrangements will be announced later.

Ms. Toomey was born on October 29, 1967 in Thomaston Ga., to Peggy Middlebrooks Cleveland and the late Homer Cleveland. She worked in Human Resources for the Georgia Department of Transportation and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. In addition to her father she is preceded in death by her sister Angela McCullough and niece Alisha Sullivan.

Survivors include her mother Mrs. Peggy Cleveland of Thomaston Ga., daughter Miss. Amber Toomey of Thomaston Ga., son Mr. Adam Toomey of Thomaston Ga., sisters Mrs. Regina (Jimbo) Lee of Stockbridge Ga., Mrs. Kristi (Keith) Griffin of Thomaston Ga., grandchildren Ryleigh Toomey, Owen Bunn, Marlee Bunn, Carson Toomey, special friend Glenn Tyson.

MRS. FRANCES DIANE IVEY BARFIELD

Mrs. Frances Diane Ivey Barfield, age 89, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at her daughters residence in Thomaston.

Mrs. Barfield was born on February 22, 1939 in Thomaston, to the late Amos Ivey, and the late Corine Boswell Ivey. She worked at the Thomaston Mills in the spinning room and was a member of Kings Chapel Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Jackie Barfield, Amos and Clyde Ivey, and Roy McAllister, grandson, Wesley Cummings, and great-grandson, Kyle Spraggins.

Survivors include her daughters, Patricia (Jerry) Royal of Thomaston, Barbara Langford of Thomaston, Brenda (Lee) Bunn of Thomaston, sons, David "Squigg" (Lynn) Cummings of Thomaston, Freddie Kilgo of Thomaston, step-children, Tracy Barfield of Thomaston, Jacklyn Lewis of Thomaston, special nephew, Andy McAllister, nieces and nephews, Joyce, Joel, Gwen, 14 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

MR. BUFORD EDWARD DUDLEY

Mr. Buford Edward Dudley, age 94, of Thomaston, died, Monday, March 29, 2021 at Providence Nursing Home.

Mr. Dudley was born on November 19, 1926, in Leesburg, GA, to the late Willie Dudley and the late Eva Fordham Hurd. He worked for the Martha Mills and retired as a painter. He was a member of Silvertown Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Ernestine Shepard Dudley, his brothers, Haskel and Edward Dudley, sister, Katie Gresham.

Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Sherri Dudley Duncan of Thomaston, sons, Edward "Ronnie" (Wanda) Dudley of Stockbridge, Tommy (Stephanie) Dudley of Thomaston, sister, Martha Brackett (David) Roberson of Thomaston, 6 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. from Upson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Coggins Funeral Home

MR. BILLY BARNES

Mr. William Bert "Billy" Barnes, 76, of Milner and formerly of Thomaston, died Saturday, March 27, 2021 at the Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.

Celebration of Life Services for Mr. Barnes will be held on Monday, April 5, 2021 at 2:00 pm at the Pavilion of the Gathering Church with Rev. Charles Bennett officiating. The family of Mr. Barnes will receive friends at the Gathering Church Pavilon from 1:00 pm until the Celebration hour.

Mr. Barnes was born in Chattanooga, TN on September 6, 1944, a son of the late William H. and Sara Louise Bankston Barnes. He was a graduate of R. E. Lee Institute where he was a member of the Rifle Team.

Mr. Barnes was a retired fueling operations supervisor for Delta Airlines. He was an avid deer hunter, turkey hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed gardening, making turkey calls and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Mr. Barnes was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife, Barbara Barnes of Milner; two daughters, Cindy Barnes (Charles) Bennett and Kim Barnes (Buddy) Presley, both of Meansville; two step-sons, Scott (Renee) Newman of Forsyth and Jimmy
(Angela) Newman of Milner; a cousin, Doug (Emily) Tingle of Griffin; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra Barnes, and a brother, Henry Barnes.

BERNICE OGLESBY WEAVER

Bernice Oglesby Weaver, age 87, passed peacefully into the Lord's hands on Tuesday, March 23, at Riverside Health and Rehab. She was born in Pike County on January 15, 1934, to Charlie Alton and Mary Ellen Kelly Oglesby. She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and her husband Ronnie George Weaver.

Bernice is survived by daughters, Debra (Tony) Martinez of Thomaston, and Marsha (Alan) Landers of Williamson. Her sons are Fred (Cindy) Pitts Jr. of St Augustine, FL, and Stan (Chrystle) Pitts of Thomaston. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. Her family and friends have sorely missed their visits with her during the past year.

Bernice wore many hats during her life in Thomaston. She worked as an insurance agent for both Woodmen of the World and MetLife for twenty-six years. She also opened the Donut Delight, which grew into the Pitts Stop on Georgia Avenue. She served as secretary to the pastor for many years at First Baptist Church, where she was active in Sunday School, WMU, and missions. She loved her children and their many friends, who always felt welcome at her home. She was never happier than when she was doing something for others,

Funeral services for Bernice will be held on Saturday morning, March 27, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home, with visitation an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Crystal Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering at First Baptist Church.

Mrs. Judy Lynn Hamby, age 63, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at her residence.

Mrs. Hamby was born on October 23, 1957, to the late Leonard Leon Hamby, and the late, Evelyn Daniel Hamby. She was of the Baptist Faith. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Dr. David Paul Fieseler age 72 of Thomaston Ga., passed away Monday March 22, 2021 at his residence.

Dr. Fieseler was born on January 13, 1949 in Columbus Ga., to the late L.D. Fieseler and the late Sarah Fieseler. He attended Mountain View Baptist Church. Dr. Fieseler served his community for many years owning and operating his medical practice.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Rose Ann Fieseler, daughters Mrs. Brittany (Jeffrey) Ellington of Thomaston Ga., Ms. Blair (Hank Owens) Self of Woodbury Ga., sons Mr. Josh (Lynne) Fieseler of Ball Ground Ga., Mr. Brett Self of Griffin Ga., sister Mrs. Jerry Hardy of Thomaston Ga., grandchildren Abby Ellington, Anna Grace Ellington, Ace Owens, Callie Giddens, Chris Giddens, Clay Giddens.

Mr. James E. Ellington, Sr., age 82, of Yatesville, died on Sunday evening,March 21, 2021, at his residence.

Funeral services for Mr. Ellington will be held Wednesday, March 24, at 11:00 AM, at Yatesville United Methodist Church with Rev. Howard Gossett officiating. Mr. Ellington devoted his life to public service. He served as a Yatesville City Councilman for many years and later serving as Mayor Pro Tempore. He served and retired as the Chief of the Yatesville Fire Department. He was a member of Yatesville United Methodist Church.

MRS. ERMA GLORIA TRICE

Mrs. Erma Gloria Trice, age 84, of Thomaston, died Monday, March 8, 2021, at her residence.

Mrs. Trice was born on April 15, 1936, in Thomaston, to the late Herman Lee Dumas, and the late Nettie Ellerbee Dumas. She retired from Carters and then went on to work at West Village as a cook, and she was a member of Clark's Chapel Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Marion Frederick Trice Jr., daughter, Barbara Bell Hay, son, Ricky Bell, brothers, Robert Dumas, Harold Dumas, sisters, Mary Goodwin, and Catherine Dumas.

Survivors include her daughter, Deanna (Tim) Helms of Thomaston, son, Randy Bell of Thomaston, sister, Betty Hatchett of Pike County, grandchildren, Jodi Bell, Jennifer Shoults, Dusty Bell, Andrea Bell, Adam Bell, Jason Hay, Lauren Berryhill, great-grandchildren, Brayden and Baylee Burns, Janie and Jack Shoults, Jordan, Addison, and Kalaeb Bell, Kasen Hay, Jessie and Justin Latourette, Logan and Maddie Berryhill, and great-great-grandchild, Everlynn Bell.

RILEY CHANCELLOR NUCE AGE 16 OF MEANSVILLE GA., PASSED AWAY SUNDAY MARCH 7, 2021.

Riley was born on May 25, 2004, in Bibb County, to Derek Chad Nuce and Diane Chancellor Nuce. He was a student at Pike County High School, was on the basketball team, and ran track and cross country. He was also a member of the Pike County FFA and the Pike County Christian Athletes.

Survivors include his parents, Chad and Diane Nuce of Meansville, brother, Colby Nuce of Meansville, paternal grandmother, Carolyn Lawhon of Griffin, grandfather, Lawrence Morgan (Linda) Nuce of Las Vegas, maternal grandparents, Brian (Ruth) Chancellor of Griffin, uncles, David (Ashley) Chancellor, Richard Bishoff, aunt, Rhonda (Lance) Landrum, great-aunt, Katie Fews, and cousins, Tori Chancellor, Alex Chancellor, Ella Chancellor, Shelby Ericsson, Dominic Agnes, Dylan Agnes, and Ryan Agnes.

Mr. Fallin was born September 28, 1954, in Thomaston, to the late Curtis Merille "Meg" Fallin, and the late Francis Lena Lynn Fallin. He was self-employed and was a member of Smyrna Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Debra Craven Fallin, sister, Margie Fallin Conner, brothers, Ezra David Fallin, Joseph Lee Fallin, and Jessie William Fallin.

Survivors include his sons, Derek Fallin of Thomaston, Eric (Justin) Fallin of Brooks, grandchild, Trevor Phillips, and special niece, Salena Rose Fallin.

Mr. David Lamar "Blue Tic" Goins age 70 of Molena Ga, passed away Thursday March 4, 2021 at Eternal Hope Hospice.

Mr. Goins was born on December 27, 1950 in Griffin Ga, to the late Ervie Goins and the late Eva Bennett Goins. He worked as a mechanic for many years. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brother Roy Goins and sister Grace Goins.

Mr. Edward Cecil Bennett age 72 of Salem Al., formerly of Thomaston Ga., passed away Thursday March 4, 2021 at his residence.

Mr. Bennett was born April 26, 1948 in Mitchell Co. GA to the late Louie Edward Bennett and Lillian Hampton Thomas.

He was a retired truck driver with the Dunkin Donut Corporation.

Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Linda F. Bennett.

Mrs. Laura Christine Adams, age 85 of The Rock Ga, passed away Wednesday March 3, 2021 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Adams was born on April 27, 1935 in Alabama, to the late Edgar Maley Matthews, and the late Lucinda Sarah Ann Pike Matthews. She worked for the Accounting Department at Thomaston Mills and was a member of Vega Community Church. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Kenneth Adams, and son, Johnny Keith Legg.

Survivors include her son, Terry (Karen) Adams of Meansville, grandchildren, Sam (Ashley) Adams, Laura (James) Hutchins, Kyle (Kristi) Legg, Brandon Legg, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Mildred Elizabeth Lloyd age 83 of Thomaston Ga, passed away Wednesday March 3, 2021 at Spalding Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Lloyd was born on July 8, 1937 in Yatesville, to the late, Albert Ross Dawson, and the late Maggie Dawson. She worked for Sheri Lynn as a seamstress, and attended Northside Baptist. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Larry Vernon Lloyd, and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her daughter, Melanie Daniel of Thomaston, sons, Rodney (Shelly) Lloyd of Thomaston, Randy (Amanda) Lloyd of Thomaston, grandchildren, Jessica Daniel, Jake (Kasey) Daniel, Chandler Lloyd, Arliss Lloyd, Walker Lloyd, Lilian Pittman, Jeremy (Rainee) Lloyd, Joshua Lloyd, Jospeh Lloyd, Jonathan (Kelsey) Lloyd, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Amris Elese Bedford

Miss Amris Elese Bedford, age 10, of Blackshear, danced into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday afternoon (3/2/21) at her residence.

Born March 8, 2010 in Jesup, she was a daughter of Ross Edward and Marlee Walker Bedford. She had lived all of her life in Blackshear and was in the 5th grade at Midway Elementary School. At school, she was an Honor Roll student and a member of the Jr. Beta Club, Garden Club, and 4-H.

She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Blackshear and was active in the GA’s, Awana Club, the Children’s Choir, all of the children’s musicals, and attended the 5th Grade Sunday School Class.

Amris enjoyed taking dance lessons at Center Stage Dance Studio, piano lessons from Cindy Callahan, and she loved to sing. She also played soccer at the Pierce County Recreation Department and enjoyed playing golf.

She was the 2019 Pierce County Chamber of Commerce Community Bright Spot Award recipient and was the youngest member of the Georgia Cattlemen’s Association.

Amris was a loved and cherished patient at St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. She participated in school, fundraising, and Child Life programs while receiving treatment at St Jude. Amris was adored by the staff of St Jude and ALSAC, and she helped bring awareness and hope to many families dealing with the misfortune of childhood cancer.

Preceding her in death was her paternal grandmother, Doris “Nan” Bedford.

Survivors include her parents, Ross and Marlee Walker Bedford of Blackshear; sister, Alary Bedford of Blackshear; grandparents, Alvin and Pam “Jam” Walker, Jr. of Blackshear and Gary Bedford of Junction City, GA; aunts and uncles, Lori Beth Reeves (husband David) of Thomaston, GA, Paul Tucker (wife Star) of Zebulon, GA, and Trey Walker of Blackshear; cousins, Bickley Reeves, J. Thomas Reeves, Brooks Wayland Tucker, Leia Avery, and Jackson Avery; and many great aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives.

A funeral service will take place Saturday (3/6/21) at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Blackshear. Burial will follow in the Blackshear City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 12-2 p.m.

The family requests the students in the Midway Elementary School 5th Grade Class to serve as honorary pallbearers. Please be at the church by 1:30 p.m. Please feel free to wear your Amris shirts or a purple shirt.

PAMELA TUCK COPPERSMITH

Pamela (Pam) Tuck Coppersmith, age 75, of Thomaston, passed away February 28, 2021, at Providence Healthcare in Thomaston. She was born February 24, 1946, in Milwaukee, WI. Pam worked at Wal-mart in Thomaston for several years. She enjoyed sewing and arts and crafts.

She was preceded in death by her husband Philip W. Coppersmith, Sr., son and daughter-in-law Chuck and Angie Coppersmith, brother David, and sister Marie.

She is survived by her children: Cindy Faris (Chris), Philip Coppersmith, Jr. (Regina), and Debra Costigan; grandchildren: Brittani, Tiffani, Jon, Philip III, Cody, Abby, Sydney, Megan, Michelle, and Angelo; brother: Tom and sister: Brenda; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A family memorial service is being planned and will be held at a later date.

MR. MARION CAREY GOINS

Mr. Marion Carey Goins, 81, of Thomaston, died Sunday, February 28. 2021 at his home.

Mr. Goins was born in Columbus on July 29, 1939, the son of the late J. E. and Mary Hand Goins. He and his family moved to Thomaston in 1966 and he was employed as an operator for Southern Natural Gas. He and his wife also operated the Country Heart Collections for nine years, where he served as chief operating officer.

Mr. Goins was a member of the First Baptist Church and served as a Deacon. He was also the maintenance supervisor for the church.

Mr. Goins is survived by his wife, Betty Payne Goins; two children, Lynda (Frank) Jones and Marcus (Cindy) Goins, both of Thomaston; four grandchildren, Nathan (Jessica) Jones, Heather Carmona, Matthew (Helen) Goins, all of Thomaston, and Haylee (Bobby) Bandoji of Franklin; and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandchild, Christopher Frank Jones.

The family will hold a private service at a later date.

Mr. Hilton Roughton Jr., age 79, of Thomaston, died Sunday, February 28, 2021, at his residence.

Mr. Roughton Jr. was born on August 29, 1941, in Norfolk, VA, to the late Mary Benton Fox. He retired after 20 years of serving his country in the U.S. Army, and fought in the Vietnam War. He is preceded in death by his mother.

Survivors include his sisters, Mary Ann Roughton, Carol Ussery and Linda Faye Booth all of Thomaston.

It was Mr. Hilton's wishes to be cremated.
