Elizabeth “Liz” Gaëtanne Scott Pittenger

Mrs. Elizabeth “Liz” Gaëtanne Scott Pittenger, age 76, of Williamson, passed away January 14, 2024, at her home.  She was born in Miami, FL, daughter of immigrants, her father the late George Patrick Burke Scott (b. London, England) and mother the late Geraldine Veilleux Scott (b. Quebec, Canada).  Liz lived briefly in Detroit, MI (1948), but moved to Van Nuys, CA in late 1948. Some memories of this time she often shared were of her experiences with her caretaker in Van Nuys, and spending memorable spring planting season and fall harvesting with her caretaker’s family in the town of Big Sandy, MT.  Liz and her family moved to Largo, FL around 1955.  She graduated from Largo High School (1965) and St. Petersburg Junior College (1967). She earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida (1969) and her Master of Fine Arts from Florida International University (FIU) in Miami (1993). Liz became an adjunct professor in English Composition at FIU.

She was an avid observer of nature and reader, an occasional writer, often providing book reviews and feedback to the book writing community and travelling with her best friend and author, the late Barbara Parker, on research trips around the US and Europe. She was a traveler and was most proud of her 1997 solo trip from Greece to the UK. In 2014, she and her husband, David, moved to their home Williamson to be closer to their grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years: David Pittenger; son and daughter-in-law: Scott and Chittaphone Pittenger; grandsons: Tavanh Jonathan (T. J.) Pittenger and Suriyan Aidan Pittenger.

It was Liz’s wish to be cremated and no formal services are planned.
