Barbara Jean Shockley Rogers

Mrs. Barbara Jean Shockley Rogers, 90, of Thomaston died Saturday, December 30, 2023, of natural causes.

A graveside memorial service for Mrs. Rogers will be held Thursday, January 6, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Southview Cemetery in Thomaston, GA, with Rev. Ted Kandler officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

 

Mrs. Rogers was a native of Thomaston. She was a 1952 graduate of R. E. Lee Institute and briefly attended Georgia College for Women. She married her forever love, Jimmy Rogers, on June 27, 1954.  She was retired from Bank America where she was a head teller. Mrs. Rogers was a member of First Baptist Church of Thomaston and enjoyed many friends in her Sunday School class.  In her younger years she was active in Garden Club, organizing her high school reunions, and volunteering at the hospital.

 

Mrs. Rogers is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Rogers. She is survived by her two sons, Jim (Laura) Rogers of LaGrange, GA, and John (Carolyn) Rogers Powder Springs, GA; a sister, Lucy Shockley Smallwood of Dunnellon, FL; a sister-in-law Fran Rogers of Buford, GA; two granddaughters, Mary Margaret Rogers of Atlanta and Jessica Diane Rogers of Atlanta; one grandson, Brian James Rogers of Asheville, NC; and several much-loved nieces and nephews.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions in memory of Mrs. Rogers to Pass the Salt Ministry of First Baptist Church, 208 S. Church St., Thomaston, GA 30286, Upson Regional Hospital Auxiliary, PO Box 1059, Thomaston, GA 30286, or the Upson County Cancer Car Fund, c/o Carey Pitts, 300 Upson Ave., Thomaston, GA 30286.
