Suzanne Wheless Jordan

While loved ones mourned the loss of a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, one of God’s earthly angels, Suzanne Wheless Jordan, ascended to Heaven to be with Him late Wednesday afternoon, September 13th, 2023, following a lengthy and hard-fought battle with cancer.

Suzanne was born in Upson County Hospital on December 7, 1951. She spent her childhood and youth growing up in a happy, loving home with her family in Thomaston, Georgia. She was a 1969 graduate of R.E. Lee Institute. After high school, she attended West Georgia College in Carrollton for a time before starting a family. She eventually earned her B.S. in Accounting from Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, and worked in corporate accounting until her retirement a little over a decade ago.

Outside of her thirty year accounting career, Suzanne enjoyed a number of activities. Including working in her yard, decorating and beautifying her home, playing golf, pulling for the Georgia Bulldogs, loving and spoiling her real dogs, and spending time at the beach.

However, beyond any pleasure and satisfaction that she derived from her career and from her pastimes, her primary passion in life was always her family. When it came to family, she was completely devoted and selfless. Special occasions, weekends, holidays, phone calls, etc., spent with family - both her own and extended - brought her more joy than anything else. Of her many admirable and endearing qualities, she was, above all else, a giver, a nurturer, and a lover to those whom she held dear. Her passing leaves a gaping hole in the hearts of and in the days ahead for every life that she touched. Suzanne’s life surely offered testament to the fact that angels don’t always have wings.

Suzanne was predeceased by her godly and adoring parents, Russell and Betty Wheless, who were lifelong residents of Thomaston, Georgia, as well as by her beloved son, Brian Peugh, who left her far too soon. She is survived by her husband of twenty-six years, Marty Jordan, of Phenix City, Alabama; her loving daughter Kristi (Corry) Diehl of Ellerslie, Georgia, and her devoted son Steven (Wendy) Peugh of Lizella, Georgia, six grandchildren whom she adored, and they her - Payton Hinton, Brenden (Kayla) Diehl, Parker Diehl, Maddox Diehl, Eli Peugh, and Gracie Peugh; her first great grandchild, infant Madelyn Rose Diehl; siblings Angela (Carey) Pitts, Russ (Lisa) Wheless, and Chet (Angie) Wheless, who loved their “Susie” dearly; as well as by a host of cherished nieces, cousins and friends.

A memorial commemorating, honoring, and celebrating her life will be held Friday September 22nd at The Gathering at 456 Hannahs Mill RD, Thomaston, GA 30286 from 2 to 4 PM.

In lieu of flowers and cards, the family would like those wishing to honor her memory to  consider donating to the American Cancer Society or some similar organization whose goal is eradicating this pernicious disease from our midst.
