Mr. Burgess was born on January 20, 1941, in North Wilkesboro NC, to the late George Edison Burgess and the late Ina Sue Brown Burgess. He worked for Upson Regional Medical Center as Chief Maintenance Engineer before moving to General Motors and later retired. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Burgess was also a member of the Morning Star Masonic Lodge # 27 F & AM as Past Master.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers, Dwight "Chuck" Burgess and Gary Wayne Burgess; and grandson, William Tollie Wilson II.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Kathy Burgess of Thomaston GA; daughter, Mrs. Susan Burgess (Jon) James of Thomaston GA; sons, Mr. Clayton (Wylene) Burgess of Thomaston GA, and Mr. Neal (Kresha) Hood of Thomaston GA; brother, Mr. Harold Burgess of Lenora N.C; 5 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Upson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Coggins Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, from, 5:00 p.m - 7:00 p.m.
