Robert Merrell "Robby" Brooks

Mr. Robert Merrell "Robby" Brooks, age 68, of Thomaston, entered the gates of heaven on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at his residence surrounded by family. Acelebration of life service will be held on Saturday, June 1, at Calvary's Lighthouse Church at 2:00 PM with Pastor Mark Mercer officiating.  A memory basket will be provided at the church for anyone who would like to share aspecial memory of Robby.

 





Robby was born on June 11, 1955, in Thomaston, to the late Merrell Lewis

Brooks and the late Madie Wade Brooks.  He was a graduate of R. E. Lee

Institute.  After high school he studied and became a master welder.  He

could fabricate anything using metal and a welding machine. He could often

be found in his shop creating whatever his heart desired.  He was employed

by Thomaston Mills from 1978 until their closure in 2000.  He then was

employed by the Georgia Department of Transportation from 2000 until his

retirement in 2017.  After retirement he enjoyed his passions of hunting,

fishing, metal fabrication, gardening, cooking, spending time with family,

and ministering.  He was very active in his church and was an ordained

minister.  He never met a stranger and readily shared his testimony of God's

work in his life.  Above all else, Robby's life was defined by sharing his

joy in Christ.  His absence will be felt by all who knew and loved him, and

his legacy will live on through everyone he touched.  If you were fortunate

enough to hear his testimony, you would surely be touched very deeply by the

Holy Spirit that guided him.

 

In addition to his parents, Robby was preceded in death by his

father-in-law, Frank Van Houten and his mother-in-law, Ruby Van Houten.  He

is survived by his loving wife, Debbie Van Houten Brooks and his devoted

son, Shannon Brooks (Lori); three grandchildren: Colton Brooks (Alisha),

Kristen Brooks (Chris), and Matthew Brooks; four great grandchildren:

Madison Brooks, Camden Brooks, Riley Richardson, and Anna Kolllin Brooks; a

brother, Bill Brooks (Vanessa); aunts: Marie Marshall and Martha Barfield;

brother-in-law, Ronnie Van Houten (Glenda), two special nieces, Lisa

Caldwell and Michele Harrell (Duane) who were excellent caregivers; special

cousins, Greg and Tonya Marshall who were on the journey with us; nephew,

John Van Houten ((Erika), and niece, Christy Futch.  Many great nieces,

great nephews, family members, and friends also survive.

 

Robby's  bonus family include Pastors Mark and Marsha Mercer; grandchildren:

Justin Mercer (Haley), Matthew Mercer; Hailey Brown (Chandler), Maddie

Mercer (Love Muffin); and great grandchildren: Kinley, Kooper, Kam, Jax, and

Rhett Mercer, and  Brantley Brown. 

 

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Thomaston

Hospice for the excellent care and compassion shown to Robby and to us.

James “Jim” Lee Wilson

Mr. James “Jim” Lee Wilson, age 62, of Zebulon, passed away May 29, 2024, at his home.  He was born in Miami, FL, son of the late P. Leon Wilson and Elizabeth Jean Pippin Wilson. Jim lived in Barnesville where he graduated from Lamar County High School in 1979.  After graduation, Jim joined the United States Army where he served 16 years of active duty before transferring to the National Guard where he served about 7 years before retiring from the military. Jim was currently working at Barfield Precision Electronics as a quality control inspector where he had been employed for 20 years. 

Jim enjoyed leather working, woodworking, playing the guitar, and crafting handmade fishing flies. He was always eager to learn something new. He had been active in his church, in the Walk to Emmaus, Kairos Ministry and was always very helpful, eager to be of aid, and to lend a helping hand. 

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael “Mike” Leon Wilson.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years: Joan Elizabeth Berry; brother: David Wilson; niece and nephew:  Beth Vinson (Ray) and Josh David Wilson; and ister-in-law: Carol Berry (Steve Webb).

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home.

Bennie Leon Loggins

Mr. Bennie Leon Loggins, age 77, of Meansville, passed away May 25, 2024.  He was born in Commerce, GA, son of the late Bennie Duncan Loggins and Helen Elizabeth Copper Loggins.  For most of his life Leon was a painting contractor. He was Vice President of Biscayne Painting in Florida for many years. Leon was a kind and generous man who loved God and people. He was proud of his Cherokee Indian Heritage and enjoyed living the southern life, making his own wine, traveling, hunting, fishing, and gardening.  In his younger years, he enjoyed photography and bowling. He was an avid reader and a history buff.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, John Wallace Loggins and Michael David “Mickey” Loggins and brother-in-law: Ellison Brannon.

 

He is survived by his wife: Diane Loggins; children: Tammy Lynn Gobbi (Chuck), Thomas Leon Loggins (Angie), Timothy Lee Loggins (Tiffany), and Misty Chloe Loggins; grandchildren: Michael Barile, Amanda Loggins, Matthew Gobbi, Leon Loggins, Ali Loggings, and Cooper Loggins; two great-grandchildren: Eric Gordan and Jaylen Gordon; sister: Becky Brannon; brother: Samuel Loggins (Renee); many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 31, 20204, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Moody-Memorial Gardens.

Larry Gene Pollette, Sr.

 

Mr. Larry Gene Pollette, Sr., age 84, of Meansville, passed away May 23, 2024, at his home. Larry spent most of his childhood in Thomaston and moved to Griffin at the age of 12. He graduated from Griffin High School in 1958 and then served in the United States Army. He worked in the heating, air conditioning and refrigeration business for most of his life.  He loved music, especially picking the guitar. In the 1960’s, Larry was part of the 4 Aces Band which won a Battle of the Bands contest. He loved the outdoors, fishing, camping, being on the water and riding dirt roads where he grew up.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Mitchell Pollette, parents, William M. Pollette and Ailene Coates Pollette, sisters, Jackie Williams and Joann “JoJo” Pollette.

 

He is survived by his sons: Keith Pollette (Chasity) and Larry Gene Pollette, Jr.; grandchildren: Ashley Barnhart (Cash), Blake Pollette, Katelyn Pollette, Brian Pollette, Levi Pollette, Larsen Dean; great-grandchildren: Jett Barnhart, Colt Barnhart, Addi Blount, Maddi Blount, Lennon Blount and Milbie Pollette; niece: Debbie Vaughn (Cam); nephew: Tommy Williams (Kris); and life-long friends: Donald and Linda Banks.

 

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, May 26, 2024, 3 p.m., at Oak Hill Cemetery in Griffin. Minister Donald Banks will officiate.

Romie Dowdy Hammond

Mrs. Romie Dowdy Hammond age 92 of Thomaston Ga, died Saturday May 25, 2024 at Riverside Health and Rehab. 

Mrs. Hammond was born on January 26, 1932 in Eastman Ga, to the late John Dowdy and the late Rosa Lee Dowdy. She worked as a Seamstress for the William Carter Company for many years and was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Mr. Gene Hammond, daughter Mrs. Leann Minyard, daughter in law Mrs. Donna Hammond, granddaughter in law Mrs. Kelly Hammond and several siblings.

Survivors include her son Mr. Scotty Hammond of Thomaston Ga, grandchildren Mr. Brian Hammond, Mrs. Carrie Tidwell, great grandchildren Corey Calvert, Carlie (Isaac) Daniel, Walker Hammond.

Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday May 28, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. from Valley Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Brenda Joan Dunn Owens

Mrs. Brenda Joan Dunn Owens, age 79, of Griffin, passed away May 26, 2024, at Eternal Hope Hospice.  Joan grew up in Griffin, daughter of the late Troy W. Dunn and Mary Beulah Starr Dunn. She was a homemaker who took great care of her family, always put others before herself, and never met a stranger.  She enjoyed shopping, cooking, flower gardening, talking on the phone, and arts and crafts. In the last few years, Joan’s favorite past-time was feeding and watching the birds in her yard. 

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Mike Dunn and Jimmy Dunn, a sister, Eleanor Cobb, and daughter-in-law, Kelly Bunn.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years:  Charles “Chuck” K. Owens; children: Sherry Fouts (David) and Greg Owens; grandchildren: Julie Widmer (David), Katelyn Owens, Luke Owens and Kaden Owens; great-granddaughters: Noelle Widmer and Cleo Ragsdale; sisters and a brother: Betty Williams, Jean Lievsay, Troy Dunn, and Jennie Widegren; many nieces and nephews.

A service celebrating Joan’s life will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home.

Nicholas "Nick" Wayne Bridges

 Nicholas "Nick" Wayne Bridges, age 40, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Upson Regional Medical Center. 

Nick was born on June 21, 1983, in Thomaston, Georgia to Rolo Crumbie and Donna Lowe.  He worked as an auto painter.  He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Jerry Wayne Bridges. 

Survivors include his, mother, Donna (Ronald) Lowe; father, Rolo Crumbie; grandmother, Frankie Lee Woodall Bridges; son, Camden Lowry; sister Christian Crumbie; and brother, J.R. Lowe.

Nicholas was cremated and no services are planned at this time.

Mrs. Donna Allison Coe age 61 of The Rock Ga, died Sunday May 26, 2024. 

Mrs. Coe was born on April 18, 1963, in Thomaston, Georgia, to the late Burma Harrington Allison.  She worked as a Logistics Manager for Simply Protein for Pets.  In addition to her mother, she is preceded in death by her brother, Darrell Coe.

 

Survivors include her husband, Tracey Coe of The Rock, mother-in-law, Mildred Hester of Covington, son, Jacob (Ceason) Coe of Meansville, brothers, Shannon (Wanda) Allison of Jackson Lake, Greg (Christy) Allison of Thomaston, sisters, Connie (Marc) Dent of Montgomery, Alabama, Kristie "Kricket" (Rod) Pitts of Thomaston, grandchild, Estella Coe, and special friends, Mark and Johnnie Hay.

Brandy Machelle Batchelor

Brandy Machelle Batchelor, age 44, of Meansville, passed away May 21, 2024.  Brandy grew up in Molena and graduated from Pike County High School in 1998. She earned her degree in Radiologic Technology from Griffin Technical College. She began her medical career at Upson Regional Hospital and then worked for Family Medical Center in Griffin, and Family Medical Clinic in McDonough. She was currently working at Upson Family Medical Center Northside as an office manager/x-ray technician.  Brandy was a people person and it showed in everything she did. She loved her job because it gave her the opportunity to serve and take care of others. She was an active member of Christ Chapel Church in Zebulon. She loved the beach, Dilly Bars and she always had a cup with her.

Brandy always looked forward to spending time at their family farm, Red-Tip Farms in Meansville, where they sell berries and vegetables. She never missed a chance to rock a baby or love on children who came with their families to the farm. Brandy will always be remembered for her love of life and her passion for serving others.   

 

She was preceded in death by her father, Dennis Hindmon, grandparents, Wiley and Virginia Hindmon, and Mary and W. V. Dixon; grandparents-in-law, Albert and Clarice Batchelor and Raymond and Elizabeth Fussell.

 

She is survived by her high school sweetheart: Terry Paul Batchelor; children: Hailey Machelle Batchelor and Elijah Kane Batchelor; mother: Mary Helen Olive (Jerry); sister: Jessica Turcotte (Monica); father-in-law and mother-in-law:  Paul and Shirley Batchelor; sister-in-law: Tonya Taylor (Greg); nephews and a niece: Lee and Caleb Henderson and Zoey Turcotte; aunts and uncles: Adrian and Gary Masingill, Joe and Cheryl Murphy, and Edward and Debra Murphy.

Larry Ricky "Rick" Chambley

Mr. Larry Ricky "Rick" Chambley, age 75 of Hamilton, died Friday, May 17, 2024, at his residence.  

Mr. Chambley was born on January 9, 1949, in Thomaston, Georgia, to the late Calvin Rudolph Chambley and the late Dorothy Helen Sparks Chambley.  He graduated from R.E. Lee in 1968 where he played all sports, he played baseball at Silvertown, and on the Atlanta Braves minor league team.  Mr. Rick was an avid outdoorsman and will always be remembered for being a loving husband, father and grandfather.  He retired from his own pest control business and was of the Methodist Faith.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son in law, Jeff Brown.

 

Survivors include his wife Deborah Langford Chambley of Hamilton, daughter, Cory Brown of Hamilton, son, Richard Chambley of Smiths Station, Alabama, grandchildren, Lydia and Hunter Brown.

Mrs. Mary Estelle Echols Maddox, age 97, of Barnesville, died Sunday, May 19, 2024, at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation.  

Mrs. Maddox was born on May 25, 1926, in Jacksonville, Florida, to the late Elijah Echols, and the late Mary Williams Echols.  She was a homemaker and a member of Rock Springs Church.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Martin Taylor Maddox, daughter, Linda Mote, and son, Leroy Smith.

 

Survivors include her daughters, Mildred Degner of Barnesville, Nan (Ben) Langley of Jasper, son David (Barbara) Maddox of Lakeland, Florida, grandchildren, Robbie Mote, Marty (Cathy) Mote, Allen Mote, Michael (Elizabeth) Head, Barbara (Brad) Boyd, Lynn (John) Cunningham, Terri (Chris) Levine, Susan (Mike) Echols, Julie Smith, Taylor Maddox, several great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

John W. Hall

Mr. John W. Hall, 73 of Thomaston, GA died May 18, 2024, at his residence. A celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Coggins Funeral Home.

David P. Forrest

Mr. David P. Forrest, 87 of Yatesville, GA died Saturday, May 18, 2024, at his residence. 

Mr. Forrest was born on July 24, 1936, in Brownsville, Tennessee, to the late Samuel Carl Forrest, and the late Orie D. Marcum Forrest.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Mike, Homer, Leslie Forrest, sister, Rainey Claire Riddick. 

David loved the simple things in life:  God, Family, his dogs, agriculture, helping others and sports. He was an arm-chair quarterback, umpire, pit boss, dog whisperer, and had a green thumb. Growing up as the son of a sharecropper on a western Tennessee cotton farm, he worked his way through college earning a bachelor’s degree from University of Tennessee Martin.  After college, he enlisted and served in the US Army.  After an honorable discharge, he worked as an USDA food inspector throughout the south before earning a master’s degree in agriculture education from University of Tennessee Knoxville and later earned a Specialist Degree from the University of Georgia. Mr. Forrest didn’t teach from a textbook, he taught from experience.  Beginning in Murray County in 1969, his career teaching agricultural education continued into Southeast Whitfield, Screven County, and Glascock County, as well as one year in Tennessee. He began teaching Upson County High School in 1990 and was awarded an Honorary American FFA Degree in 1997.  He retired from Upson-Lee High School in 1999.  

David was an active member of Ramah Primitive Baptist Church in Barnesville, GA.  He was also an active member of the Thomaston Lions Club, holding numerous offices at the local & district level, including District Governor, and served on countless committees in various positions, including chairing 3 state conventions.  His service as a Lion was recognized by awarding him with the prestigious Ervin-Crumbley Award.  Dave was also dedicated in supporting the Georgia Lions Camp for the Blind in Waycross, GA.    

Survivors include his wife, Dimple Baynes Forrest of Yatesville, son, Carl Forrest of Yatesville, daughter Jan (James) Kent of Waverly Hall, honorary daughters, Kristina Warren, and her family, of Molena, Jennifer Taylor of Thomaston, brothers and sisters in law, Sonny (Joyce) Baynes of Dalton, Georgia Eloise (Harold) Ridley of Dalton, Ann Baynes of Dalton, grandchildren, Josie and John Kent, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Phyllis W. Waterman

Mrs. Phyllis W. Waterman, 77 of The Rock, GA died Saturday, May 18, 2024, at her residence. 

Mrs. Waterman was born on April 9, 1947, in Georgetown, Delaware, to the late Robert Wilson, and Gladys Rust Wilson.  She worked for the U.S. Postal Service and owner of Always Better Care in Thomaston.  She was of the Baptist Faith.  In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Linda Sue Wilson, and Mary Jane Leger.

 

Survivors include her mother, Gladys Wilson of Georgetown, Delaware, husband, Harold Waterman of The Rock, sons, Daniel (Shug) Waterman, of The Rock, Matt (Heather) Waterman of Thomaston, Paris (Tara) Waterman of Thomaston, Bobby (Lisa) Waterman of Barnesville, brothers, Walter (Betty) Wilson, Bobby (Patty) Wilson, Billy (Bertha) Wilson all of Delaware, sister, Kathleen Harrison of Louisiana, grandchildren, Destiny, Dylan, Devin, Rebecca, Luke, Ashlynn, many great-grandchildren, caretakers, Brandy, Nikki and many family friends.

Timothy Kendall Davy

Mr. Timothy Kendall Davy, age 30, of Thomaston, died Friday, May 17, 2024,at his residence. Memorial services for Mr. Davy will be held Wednesday, May 22, at 2:00 PM, at the First Presbyterian Church of Thomaston, with Dr. Glenn Gilstrap officiating.

Mr. Davy was born in Atlanta, GA, on July 9, 1993. He was a 2012 graduate of
Upson-Lee High School. He enjoyed acting, theater, and hiking, and he loved
animals and learning. When in Atlanta, Mr. Davy attended Peachtree Christian
Church.

Mr. Davy is survived by his parents, Brian and Sue Davy of Thomaston.

Faith Annette Lynd Pelham

Mrs. Faith Annette Lynd Pelham, age 79, of Hampton, went to be with the Lord May 18, 2024.  She was born in Rochester, NY, daughter of the late Donald Lester Lynd and Elizabeth Jane Sills Lynd.  Faith lived in New York for many years and moved to Georgia in 1978.  She enjoyed baking and word puzzles.  She was a caregiver who was always positive and who dearly loved her family.  Faith was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband William Lewis Pelham, her son, David Glazier, and brothers and sisters, Dennis, Audrey, Manon, Dana, Darrel, and Donnie.  

She is survived by her daughter: Christine Munroe; grandchildren:  Holly Short (James), Bradley Munroe (Ashley), and Bryan Munroe (Cassa); great-grandchildren: Destiny Short, Jacob Munroe and Mason Munroe; brothers: Daniel Lynd (Jane), and David Lynd; several nieces and nephews.

Wanda Kaye Hewitt Huckaby

Wanda Kaye Hewitt Huckaby, age 56, of Thomaston, passed away May 12, 2024, at her home.  Wanda grew up in Thomaston, Americus, and Meriwether County. She eventually made her home in Thomaston. She was a sweet person but could be a little stubborn and hardheaded at times. Wanda was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, collecting trinkets, and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Thomas Huckaby, her fiancé, James Bryan, her mother, Kathryn Hewitt, dad, Randy Burkett and step-dad, Jimmy Griffin.

She is survived by her children: Brandi Huckaby, James Huckaby (Kasey), Tracy Phillips (Brandon), Brenda Dukes (John), and Christopher Bryan (Shelley); grandchildren: Jeb Blackburn, Rylah Crawford, Thomas James “T. James Trice "Jimmy" McKinley

Mr. James Trice "Jimmy" McKinley, age 83, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, May14, 2024 at his residence.  It was his request to be cremated and to havehis cremains buried at Trice Cemetery.  A graveside memorial service will beheld on Sunday, May 19, at 3:00 PM at Trice Cemetery. The family willreceive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral on Saturday evening, May 18, from5:00  until 7:00 PM.

Jimmy was born in Thomaston, Upson County, Georgia, on September 5, 1940,to the late Annie Laura Blount McKinley and the late James Trice McKinley,Sr.  He was born at the home of his grandparents, Susie Trice McKinley andThomas Richmond McKinley located on Tom McKinley Road.  Jimmy was asixth-generation descendant of William Trice in Upson County.

Jimmy's early childhood was spent visiting with his maternal grandparents,Etta Hammonds Blount and William Otis Blount at their home on Andrews ChapelRoad.  He went hunting and fishing with his grandaddy, helped with farmchores, and loved being outside.  Andrews Chapel School became a part of hislife at a very young age.  He went there with his grandparents as a littleboy and he made sure it was preserved for future generations.

Jimmy said young people are deprived today because they will never flush acovey of quail while walking in the woods, never see a field of red cloverbeing harvested and bagged, and never get to chase a rabbit in an openfield.  These were some of his happiest times as a child.

Jimmy started kindergarten at Ben Hill School.  Within in a few years RockHill School was built,  and he attended through the 8th grade.  He was a1958 graduate of R. E. Lee Institute. He helped organize class reunions andenjoyed reminiscing with former classmates.

In 1973 when his parents retired from operating the cafeteria at WilliamCarter Company, Jimmy took over operation until Carter's closed in 1999.  Inaddition to the cafeteria, he and his father worked a 400-acre cattleoperation on Andrews Chapel Road.  When his father retired from the farm,Jimmy continued and with Alicia operated the farm until it was sold in 1985.In 1998, Jimmy decided to run for Upson County Tax Commissioner.  He gavethe taxpayers 100% of his time while working to improve the integrity of theoffice.  After six years, he decided his work was completed and he"officially" retired when his term expired in 2004.

For many years, Jimmy and Glenda rode many miles in the Southeastern U.S. toestate sales and auctions in search of something unique or something tied toUpson County.  Jimmy collected over 250 pieces of Jugtown Pottery and about20 pieces of homemade primitive furniture made in Upson County.  Jimmy alsoacquired a collection of Upson County artifacts including old letterheadfrom businesses back into the 1850's and Upson County Peach Labels.  Thesewill be among items donated to Thomaston-Upson Archives and Upson HistoricalSociety in addition to other items that have already been donated to theArchives and Historical Society for generations to enjoy.  Jimmy had apassion for Upson County History and would go to great lengths to bring anitem back to Upson County for preservation.

Jimmy maintained the Andrews Chapel School for many years as a tribute tothe Blount Family and the Andrews Chapel Community.  He gave tours to schoolchildren about early education in Upson County.  He donated the schoolbuilding and contents to Upson County in 2018 for preservation.  His familyis still active in the ongoing preservation.

He served as president of Upson Historical Society for two years.  It waswhile he was president that the board of UHS learned the Harrison MemorialLibrary building was available, and along with others of like mind,  theboard met with Upson County Board of Commissioners, Thomaston City Counciland the Thomaston-Upson Board of Education to present a proposal for anArchives.  All of these entities agreed to establish the Archives whichofficially opened on October 10, 1996.  Jimmy served on the Upson HistoricalBoard and the Archives Records Advisory Board for many years.  In 2021,Jimmy was honored by the Thomaston-Upson Chamber of Commerce with theirLifetime Achievement Award. 

After retiring from the Tax Office, Jimmy was proud of his part in workingwith the Upson Historical Society for several years to help organize andprint Upson County-A Pictorial History in 2009.  For the 50th anniversary ofUHS, Jimmy conducted tours of Upson County. The tours consisted of 25historical sites across Upson County. This was a learning experience forlifelong residents who had no idea these locations existed.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his sister, BeckyMcKinley McDaniel, sister-in-law, Bobbie S. Elliott, and brothers-in-lawCarlton H. McDaniel, Ronald E. Salter, Bruce Howell, Joe Phelps and WayneElliott.  He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Glenda Salter McKinley,daughter, Laura Alicia McKinley, sisters, Linda McKinley Jones and  CindyMcKinley (Greg)  Culverhouse; sisters-in-law:  Sylvia S. Howell, Carlene S.Phelps, Dianne S. (Ben) Boatright. (Sylvia S. Ivie;  many nieces andnephews, and his furry companion, Mama Oreo. The family would like to thankJimmy's caregiver, Jessica Tigner, for her kindness and compassion whilealso making him laugh.

Claudette Ivey Fagan

 Mrs. Claudette Ivey Fagan, 80, of West Moores Crossing Road passed on Tuesday at her residence.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at Trice Funeral Home Thomaston. 

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 18th at 1:00 P.M. at the Salem Baptist Church.  Interment will be held in the Salem Cemetery.

Timothy "Tim" Conrad Ellis

Mr. Timothy "Tim" Conrad Ellis age 68, of Thomaston, Georgia, died Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at his daughter's residence in Waverly Hall Ga. 

Mr. Ellis was born on February 22, 1956, in Stephenville, Texas, to the late William Lee Ellis and the late Evelyn Teal Ellis.  He was a Union Electrician and worked for IBEW 613.  He is preceded in death by his parents.

 

Survivors include his daughters, Donna (Steven) Vining of Thomaston, Kristi Ellis of Waverly Hall, grandchildren, Evie Vining, Talley Ellis, Allie Vining, and Sophie Vining.

 

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 17, 2024, from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.

Jesse Earl Freeman

Mr. Jesse Earl Freeman age 75 of Thomaston Ga, died Saturday May 11, 2024, at his residence. 

Mr. Freeman was born on March 30, 1949, in Pensacola, Florida, to the late Bertha Bolton.  He worked for Cargill Fertilizer Company.  In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his brother, Tony Freeman.  

 

Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Dukes Freeman of Thomaston, sons, John (Pat) Dukes of Thomaston, Jesse (Fran) Freeman of Nashville, TN, sister, Dee (Rufus) Bolton of River View, Florida, grandchildren, Nicholas, Rylan, Trey, Kobin, and Aniston.

 

Memorial services will be held at a later date by the family.

Mary Lee Griffin Aaron

Mrs. Mary Lee Griffin Aaron, age 79, passed away May 10, 2024, at her home in Griffin.  She grew up in Atlanta, one of nine children raised by the late Charles Edward Sims and the late Mamie Griffin Sims. Mary worked in the banking industry for most of her life and retired from the international banking department of Bank of America.  For many years, she owned and operated Aaron’s Gems, a flea market on Metropolitan Pkwy. in Atlanta. She was also an Avon and Tupperware representative. Mary enjoyed many things like gardening and playing solitaire on her computer, but her favorite pastime was sitting on her front porch watching the cars pass by on the street. Mary was a kind, generous and giving lady.  Whatever she had, she gladly gave to others. 

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her biological father Jessie Reeds; husband, Ernest Aaron and five brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her children: Syldrik Aaron, Myndra Aaron (Consuela) and Cyrnard Aaron; brother and sisters: Charles Edward Sims, Jr., Donna Meria Sims, and Charlie Kate Griffin.

Grandchildren: Tiffiny Davis, Aisha Aaron, Syldrik Aaron, Jr., Elisa Scury, Jermik Harris, Earnest Aaron, Bryant Aaron, Bonita Aaron, Myndra Aaron, Jr. and Keandra Aaron; 22 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home. Friends may visit the family on Saturday, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mary will be buried next to her husband in the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton at a later date.

Larry Otis Thomas

Mr. Larry Otis Thomas, age 89, of Barnesville, died Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Harborview Nursing Home.

Mr. Thomas was born on April 4, 1935, in Brillant, Alabama, to the late Otis Daniel Thomas, and the late Clytie Womack Thomas.  He served his country in the U.S. Army and worked as a commercial photographer.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Violet Skelton Thomas, and his brother Al Thomas.

Survivors include his daughter, Stacey (John) Blackerby of Barnesville, son, Jeff (Jill) Thomas of Virginia Beach, Virginia, brother, Orland Thomas of Mobile, Alabama, grandchildren, Grant Thomas, Joshua Knight, Abigail King, and great-grandchild, Ellie Knight.

Pursey Ruel Mons, Jr.

Mr. Pursey Ruel Mons, Jr., age 85, of Meansville, passed away May 6, 2024.  He was born in Atlanta, son of the late Pursey Ruel Mons, Sr., and Loranne Bradley Mons.  He was a veteran of the United States Army. For most of his working life, Pursey was a self-employed house painter. He enjoyed playing drums, fishing, and hunting.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Patricia Mons, sons, Gene Jenkins, and Michael Keith Jenkins, sister and brother, Bobbie Mons, and Bo Mons.

 

He is survived by his grandchildren: Richard Jenkins, Michael Jenkins, Brandie Lynn (Michael), Brad Jenkins, Jessica Jenkins, Courtney Jenkins, and Devin Jenkins; great-grandchildren: Makia Jenkins, Michael Lynn, Susie Lynn, Jayden Jenkins, and Makyla Lynn; brother and a sister:  David Mons and Susan Scarbrough; nephews and a niece: John Mons, Timmy Mons, Andy Mons, and Shelby Mons.

William Anthony “Tony” House, Sr

Mr. William Anthony “Tony” House, Sr., age 71, of Milner, passed away May 5, 2024.  He was born in Carrollton, son of the late Willie B. “Bill” House, Jr., and Louise Shadix House. Tony was a veteran of the United States Army.  He was one of the first certified EMTs in Georgia. He graduated from Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Science in 1977 and lived a life of service in the funeral industry for 47 years. He began his career at Haisten’s Funeral Home in Griffin and worked whenever he was needed at their Barnesville and Jackson locations. He also worked at Williams Funeral Home in Barnesville and for eight years, Tony owned and operated Holly Hills Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Fairburn. He was currently managing Haisten’s Funeral Home in Jackson. For many years, Tony sold insurance for Liberty National.

Along with his parents, he preceded in death by his brothers, Billy House and Edward House.

 

He is survived by his sons and a daughter-in-law: Tony and Kim House of Milner and Brian House of Vero Beach, FL; grandchildren and their spouses: Tyler and Holly House, Cameron and Bryce House, Kristin and Bailey Thompson, Hunter House and Dakota House; great-grandchildren: Charleigh House, Branson House, and one on the way, Blakely Ann Thompson; sister-in-law: Cathi House; and several extended family members.

 

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Moody Memorial Gardens.

 

Friends may visit the family on Wednesday, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., at the funeral home.

Roy Millard Bunn III

Mr. Roy Millard Bunn III, age 63, of Griffin, passed away May 5, 2024, at his home.  He grew up in Barnesville and graduated from Barnesville Academy.  Roy served in the United States Army. He worked at Lucon in Griffin for many years and enjoyed riding his motorcycle and gardening.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Millard Bunn, Jr.

He is survived by his wife: Rebecca Bunn; mother:  Joyce “Nanny” Dukes Bunn of  Giffin; mother-in-law: Karen Pollock of Pike County; step-daughter: Brittany Mullins; sister: Terry Holcomb (Paul) of Zebulon; niece: Brandy Caldwell (Antwan) of McDonough; great-nephew: Ayden; many other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home.

Terry Adams

Mr. Terry Adams, age 77 of Monroe, GA, died Saturday May 4, 2024 at Northridge Health and Rehab in Commerce, GA.  He was born in Thomaston, GA to the late, Aubrey and Rosalee Meadows Adams.  Mr. Adams retired from Sears as a stockman and salesman and was a United States Army Veteran.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Milwood Spuddy Adams.

Mr. Adams is survived by his son, Christopher Adams (Mona) of Monroe; daughter, Stephanie Hamby of Commerce; sister, Jatina Tucker of Lawrenceville; grandchildren, Haiden and Olivia Hall.

A private burial will take place at a later date.

Harold Brooks Barron

Mr. Harold Brooks Barron of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, died Tuesday, April 30, 2024. Memorial services for Mr. Barron will be held in Thomaston, GA, at a date and time to be announced.

Mr. Barron was born on April 27, 1946, in Thomaston, GA, to the late Lois Downs Barron McBrayer and Harvey Brooks Barron. H was a 1964 graduate of R. E. Lee Institute where he was Student Council President and voted Mr. R.E. Lee. He then attended the University of Georgia, where he met Brenda (most importantly) and received a degree in Education. He was also a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity and the National Society of Pershing Rifles. He held professional certificates in economic development from the College of Charleston and corporate community relations from Boston College. Rather than pursue a career in education, he entered the business world, and in January of 1970, he joined Thomaston Mills as human resources manager of the Griffin Division. Later he became corporate training and safety director, corporate director of human resources, and area manager of yarn manufacturing. In 1980 he left to open an executive search business in the textile industry. In 1983, he joined Contel, the third largest independent phone company in the United States, with the responsibility of establishing its Georgia headquarters in Thomaston, Georgia. He later assumed responsibility for all residential and business sales functions, including the establishment of a business service center. After Contel merged with GTE in 1991, he moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, to become the GTE spokesperson for South Carolina and to handle all external functions for the company. Shortly after the merger with Bell Atlantic that resulted in Verizon Wireless, he moved to the external affairs division of Verizon’s legal department assuming responsibilities for government relations at all levels and regulatory compliance. During his life, he was involved in many civic and professional organizations. He was active in Lions International for many years and held every office in the local club as well as several district and state offices. After moving to Myrtle Beach, he became a Rotarian and held several offices in the Myrtle Beach Chicora Club and was a holder of multiple Paul Harris Fellow awards. He was actively involved in numerous chambers of commerce, downtown development, and economic development organizations in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia. He was heavily involved in education initiatives and served on the Board of Directors of Westwood Academy in Thomaston, Georgia, and Kids Voting USA. He was also involved in GTE’s Growth Initiative for Teachers program. He was a member of the South Carolina Press Association and South Carolina Broadcasters Association. In Myrtle Beach, he was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church and Brittain Fellowship. He was also a member of the Dunes Golf and Beach Club and worked on numerous committees there over the years.

 

Throughout his professional achievements, he remained a steadfast leader of both his family and community. He will be profoundly missed.

 

Mr. Barron is survived by his wife of 54 years, Brenda Moore Barron, and two children Brant (Cory) Barron and Brandon (Kristina) Barron, and his grandchildren: Caroline (mother - Emily), Milena, Alexander, Lucinda, Danil, Maria, and Georgia.

Robert McFarlin "Mac" Olive

Mr. Robert McFarlin "Mac" Olive, age 63, of Yatesville, GA, died Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Upson Regional Medical Center.  Funeral services for Mr. Olive will be held Monday, May 6, at 11:00 AM, in the chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral Home.  Rev. David Maguire will officiate, and Interment will follow in Upson Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Sunday evening, May 5, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Mr. Olive was born in Thomaston on May 31, 1960 to the late Robert E. Olive, III and  Ann McFarlin Olive.  He had been employed as a manager by McDonalds, and he had also been employed with Quad Graphics.  Most recently he was employed with Continental Tire Company of North America in Barnesville, GA.  Mr. Olive enjoyed music, watching cooking shows - especially Guy Fieri, and cutting grass.  He also enjoyed the time he spent with the Yatesville Volunteer Fire Department.  Mr. Olive  was a member of Yatesville Baptist Church.

 

Mr. Olive is survived by a daughter, Lauren Olive of Chattanooga, TN; a son, Jeffrey Olive (Jessica) of Woodbury, GA; his mother, Ann McFarlin Olive of Yatesville; a brother, Alan Keith (Wendi) Olive of Yatesville; and two grandchildren: Meredith and Madison Olive, both of Woodbury, GA. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Yatesville Baptist Church.

Glenda Bell Dinkins

Mrs. Glenda Bell Dinkins age 77 of Thomaston Ga died Thursday May 2, 2024, at Upson Regional Medical Center. 

Mrs. Dinkins was born on August 31, 1946, in Thomaston, Georgia to the late Johnny Jewell Bell and the late Annie Mae Traylor Bell.  She worked for the William Carter Company as an operator for 33 years and was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Junior Bell, sisters, Virginia Traylor, Montez Coggler, and Betty Crews.

Survivors include her husband, Larry Dinkins of Thomaston, Sherry Renee Dinkins (Bill) George of Thomaston, Leslie Dinkins (Wade) Boyt of Thomaston, Lori (Lance Smith) Dinkins of Kissimmee, Florida, sisters, Doris Roberts of Jackson, Mildred Garrett of Thomaston, grandchildren, Brittany Allen, Caleb George, Tommy Daniel, Haley Riddick, and five great-grandchildren.
