MRS. MARY ANN DOWNS HENLEY

Mrs. Mary Ann Downs Henley, age 68, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, March 31, 2020, at the Upson Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Henley was born April 17, 1951, in Thomaston to the late Tommy Lee Downs and Nellie Scott Downs. She was a store clerk for Mr. B's in Zebulon.
She is survived by her daughters, Karen Bridges and Wanda Corley; son, Adam Henley; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services for Mrs. Henley will be held at a later date.

MR. ELDRED LANDON HOYAL

Mr. Eldred Landon Hoyal age 73 of Thomaston, GA, died Sunday March 29, 2020 at his residence.
Mr. Hoyal was born on May 9, 1946 in Thomaston, GA, to the late Robert Landon Hoyal and the late Jewel Owsley Hoyal.  He retired from the Martha Mills as a mechanic after 28 years and was an artist and master craftsman.  He was a member of The Gathering Church, and served his country in the US Navy Seabees.  He is preceded in death by his parents, his grandson, Landon Tyler Hoyal, brothers, Randall J. Hoyal and Bobby Hoyal.
Survivors include his wife, Terrie Dean Hoyal, daughters, Robin Phillips (David Willis), Heather (Jonathan) Butts, and grandchildren, Kelsey Phillips, Trey Dunnahoo, Walker Butts, an Hannah Butts.
Memorial Services will be held at a later date.

MR. WALTER ERNEST SMITH JR.

Mr. Walter Ernest Smith Jr., age 88, of Thomaston GA, died Sunday, March 22, 2020, at his residence.

Mr. Smith was born July 13, 1931, in Floyd County GA to the late Walter E. Smith Sr. and Dora M. Ledbetter Smith. He retired from Coca Cola as a Assistant Sales Manager with over 30 years of service, and was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Daniel Smith. Survivors are his daughters, Deborah (Chris) Legg, Angel (Joseph) Davis, Brenda (Brian) McCoy, and Terri Salter; sons, Greg (Mary Jo) Smith, Clay (Brenda) Smith, and Benjamin Pitts; sisters, Martha Ellis and Betty Hanley; brothers, A.C. (Bernice) Smith and Billy Joe (Mary) Smith; 24 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Graveside services for Mr. Smith will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2020, at 2:00 PM in Upson Memorial Gardens.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life ceremony at a later date.

Mr. James Terry Joiner, age 70, of Thomaston, died Friday, March 20, at his residence. Graveside funeral services for Mr. Joiner will be held on Monday, March 23, at 11:00 AM, in Upson Memorial Gardens. No visitation is planned, but the family may be contacted at the residence. Mr. Joiner was the retired owner of Joiner Plumbing Co., Inc.

MR. GEORGE WILLIAM ADAMS

Mr. George William Adams age 70 of Thomaston Ga, died Sunday March 22, 2020 at his residence.

Mr. Adams was born on October 7, 1949 in Thomaston Ga, to the late Emory Ellis Adams and the late Marian Moseley Adams. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a Mason. Mr. Adams worked in the real estate business for many years. He also taught school, worked for the Georgia Department of Transportation and drove a school bus for 25 plus years. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister Cynthia Adams.

Survivors include his sons Mr. George (Lindsey) Adams of Thomaston Ga, Mr. Ben Adams of Thomaston Ga, brother Mr. Dale (Fay) Adams of Thomaston Ga, grandchildren Aubrey Adams & Wyatt Adams.

Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday March 25, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. from Southview Cemetery.

MRS. WILLOADENE FLEMING PITTS

Mrs. Willoadene Fleming Pitts, 100, of Forsyth, died Thursday, March 19,
2020 at her home.

Funeral services for Mrs. Pitts will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at
3:00 PM in the Chapel of the Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Bishop Danny
Henderson, Rev. Ray Lowe and Mr. Jerrell Payton will officiate and burial
will follow in South View Cemetery. The family of Mrs. Pitts will receive
friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Saturday from 2:00 PM until the
funeral hour.

Mrs. Pitts was born in Franklin County, AL, on May 21, 1919, a daughter of
the late Mike and Montana Foster Fleming. She moved to Georgia at the age
of 14 and lived in Thomaston from 1936 until 1959. She then moved to Macon
where she lived until 1984. In that year she moved to Monroe County and
made her home there until her death.

Mrs. Pitts was a retired sheet cutter at the Bleachery Division of Thomaston
Mills. She attended the Thomaston Church of God.

Mrs. Pitts is survived by her daughter, Janice Pitts of Thomaston; her son,
Ruel (Dianne) Pitts of Forsyth; four grandchildren and their spouses, Tonya
and Randy Hubbard of Advance, NC, Angie and Gary Bonamo of Warner Robins,
and Michael and Sara Batchelor and Robyn and David Maloy, all of Macon; six
great grandchildren, Brock and Samantha Trayner, Amber and Alex Moss, Daniel
Hubbard, Joshua and Anna Bishop, Kaity and Eric Riffe, and Trey Batchelor;
and six great great grandchildren, Alexis Rodriguez, Annabelle Rodriguez,
Evan Trayner, Ethel Bishop, Josh Maloy and Jake Maloy. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Thomas B. Pitts.

MR. CHARLIE CLEVELAND WATKINS

Mr. Charlie Cleveland Watkins age 81 of Thomaston Ga, died Friday March 20, 2020 at his residence.

Mr. Watkins was born on December 11, 1938 in Troup County, to the late Howard James Watkins and the late Annie McPeters Watkins. He owned and operated Pat's Dinner Bell for many years. Mr. Watkins was also a former route salesman for Tom's Toasted Peanuts and Wells Dairies. He was a member of Valley Grove Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his son Kenneth Watkins, brothers Richard Watkins and Leon Watkins.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years Mrs. Patricia Watkins, son Mr. Clay (Sonya) Watkins, daughter Mrs. Sharla (Kenny) Fulcher, sister Mrs. Nancy (Verlon) Coggins, sisters in law Bobbie Watkins, Irene Watkins, daughter in law Karen Napdetano, grandchildren Ryan (Christy) Watkins, Torey (Dennis) Porffer, Kelsey (Scott) McCullough, Jordan (Tristan) Thrasher, Corey (C.J.) Bridges, Britney (Tanner) Dykes, Jessica Passamore, 9 great grandchildren and 1 more expected.

Graveside Services will be held on Sunday March 22, 2020 at 4:00 p.m. from Valley Grove Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the graveside.

MRS. HILDA EUGENIA "GENE": TOWERY MCCARD

Mrs. Hilda Eugenia "Gene" Towery McCard age 95 died Thursday, March 19, 2020.

Funeral services will be Sunday, March 22, 2020, 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery in Molena.

Mrs. McCard was born on August 19, 1924, in Opelika, AL to the late Martin Bulo and Eddie Frances Mitchell Towery. She was a member of Meansville Baptist Church and worked at Sherry Lynn as a seamstress.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Melton Edison McCard who died in 1998, son, Lynn McCard.

Survivors include her sister, Betty Sue Lee of Thomaston, grandchildren, Daryl McCard and his wife Beth of Griffin, GA and Derek McCard and his wife Tara of Molena, GA, and great-grandchildren, Kayson, Addison, and Micah McCard.

MRS. F. PAULETTE G. BROWN BRITT

Mrs. F. Paulette G. Brown Britt, 79, of Thomaston, died Wednesday, March 18,
2020 at the Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Newnan.

Funeral services for Mrs. Britt will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at
11:00 AM at the New Hope Fellowship Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Weeks
officiating. Burial services in the Salter Family Cemetery will be private.

The family of Mrs. Britt will receive friends at the church on Saturday from
10:00 AM until the funeral hour. The funeral service will be live streamed
on Saturday beginning at 11:00 AM and can be viewed either on the
Fletcher-Day Funeral Home Facebook page or the Fellowship Baptist Church of
Thomaston Facebook page.

Mrs. Britt was a life-long resident of Thomaston, born on March 19, 1940.
She was a daughter of the late Edmund Paul and Eva Melrose Salter
Greathouse. She was a graduate of R. E. Lee Institute and was retired from
the William Carter Company in Griffin after 40 years of service.
Mrs. Britt was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren and
their friends frequently enjoyed Saturday morning breakfasts at "Grandma
Polly's." She was the kind of person that always wanted to take care of
everyone else before she stopped to think about herself. Her granddaughters
will always remember going out to eat, then to Walmart to buy a toy, and
then to the Ritz to see a movie. She hosted countless sleepover and pool
parties throughout the years and make sure everyone had whatever they wanted
to eat on hand at all times. She enjoyed cooking for others and loved her
dogs.

Mrs. Britt was a member of the New Hope Fellowship Baptist Church.

Mrs. Britt is survived by her sons, Steven A. (Madelyn) Brown, Jr., and Ken
(Kim) Brown, both of Thomaston; her sister, Melrose G. Legg of Thomaston;
three grandchildren, Jessica (Jonathan) Nixon, Stephanie (Michael) Mann, and
Jordan (Edric) Mayienga; a niece, Teresa Higgs, and a nephew, Chris (Debbie)
Legg. She was preceded in death by her husband, Steven A. Brown, Sr.

MRS. DONNA JEAN HOWARD WORSHUM

Mrs. Donna Jean Howard Worshum, age 59, of Concord, passed away March 18, 2020, at her home. She was born in Thomaston, daughter of the late Donald Eugene Howard and Jeanette Bransford Howard. Donna graduated from R.E. Lee High School, attended Gordon College and then earned her bachelor’s degree in business from Tift College in Forsyth. Early in her career, Donna worked for Delta Airlines. In more recent years, she was a graduation coach for Pike County High School and worked for Fayette County Board of Education as a benefits specialist in the human resources department.

Donna was very devoted to her family, loved God and enjoyed being outdoors and around people. She adored and doted over her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband: Bill Worshum; daughters and sons-in-law: Ashton and Randy Craddock and Autumn and Josh Watson all of Concord; son: Chandler Worshum of Concord; grandchildren; Emma Grace Watson and Rhett James Watson; brother: Scott Howard of Stockbridge; and a second mom to her: Sandra Bransford of Thomaston.

The family will hold a private visitation. A celebration of Donna’s life will be held as soon as the Corona Virus situation subsides. Please check back for service information.

CYNTHIA ANN ADAMS

Cynthia Ann Adams, age 77, of Thomaston, GA., died Friday March 13, 2020 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Cynthia was born November 27, 1942 in Thomaston, GA., to the late Emory and Marian Moseley Adams. She is survived by her brothers, Dale (Fay) Adams, and George Adams, nephews, George W. M. Adams, Ben Adams, and Darren Johnson, all of Thomaston, GA.

Cynthia was a resident of Sunny Grove in Barnesville, Georgia. She was a graduate of R.E. Lee Institute and Mercer University and retired from the Department of Education as a teacher and librarian. She was of the Baptist Faith.

A Private Graveside service will be held at a later date.
