James “Jimmy” Atwater Adams, Sr

Mr. James “Jimmy” Atwater Adams, Sr., age 76, of Thomaston, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Jimmy, born Sept. 16, 1947, to Richie (Atwater) and Thomas Dickson Adams, was one of three boys. He attended Avon Old Farm School and Georgia Southwestern and was a member of Pi Kappa Pi fraternity. He served his country in the U.S. National Guard. Jimmy retired as a banker at C&S Bank in Atlanta, where he worked for many years. He also owned J’s Outdoor Sporting Goods in the 90s.

He and his wife Vicki had three children, Jimmy, Dickson, and Liz, who he adored, and they adored him right back.

Jimmy’s love of the great outdoors was only second to the love and devotion he had for his children. Jimmy was a devoted father; he was there for every sporting and academic event for all three. He was their encourager and cheerleader. When he wasn’t chasing his children across the state, you could find him outside, fishing and hunting. He was an avid fisherman and hunter; he loved spending time outdoors and working on his property in Taylor County. Jimmy also dearly loved watching storms on his visits to the ocean.

Survivors include his children, Jimmy Adams of Thomaston, Dickson Adams of Thomaston, and Liz Paiml (Brad) of Memphis, Tenn.

In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Vicki Brumbelow Adams; and brothers, Pete Adams and Tommy Adams.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Thomaston. The family will receive friends Tuesday, Sept. 3, from 12:30 p.m. until the funeral hour at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Thomaston.
