Jack Lenis Park, Jr.

Jack Lenis Park, Jr., age 75, of Molena passed away September 8, 2024.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Lenis Park, Sr., and Minnie Purvis Park, and daughter Leanna Bray Park.  He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Charlsie Park, sons Jonathan (Courtney) Park and Arthur (Janet) Park, daughter Joy Park, four grandchildren, five nieces and nephews, many other family members, and a community and congregation’s worth of friends.

Everyone who knew him from childhood to college called him Jackie.  His childhood photo albums are full of a young Jackie Boy, posing in the yard in front of 1950’s cars and pickups with cousins and friends playing in the yard, wearing a turkey costume in a Thanksgiving Parade, on vacations at the beach with family in South Carolina, riding his bicycle wearing shined leather shoes and overalls with a thick rolled cuff, riding on the family tractor, posing with pet dogs, holding every piece of sporting equipment the region had to offer, looking very uncomfortable in a suit and tie.

He attended the University of Georgia, graduating from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1974.  He was a lifelong resident of Pike County and member of the legal, cultural, sport and business communities of Spalding and Pike Counties for over 50 years.  He attended Mount Olive Baptist Church for all of his 75 years, acting as Sunday school leader, Sunday school director and co-teacher of the Men’s Life Group (a highlight of his week), deacon, church treasurer, committee member and follower of Christ.

For as long as his health allowed, he could be found on nearly any given weekend enjoying sports with friends, sometimes with kids in tow.  If he wasn’t out playing golf, tennis, basketball, baseball, or going to a Georgia game in person, he was probably at home watching the Braves, the Falcons, the Hawks, or a live golf tournament.

He was a husband and a father who always strove to be a provider.  He was known to cut spending for himself, but First National Bank of Dad was always open.  He loved the narratives of history and held a nearly bottomless supply of stories ranging from the international stage to the deeply personal from just about any age, which he always punctuated with a laugh or a sly wink.

Moody-Daniel Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

A celebration of Jack’s life will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Mt. Olive Baptist. Food and visitation will be 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., with a service to follow from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

For everyone checking, the Georgia game that day doesn’t start until 7:30.  We will cry, tell some stories, laugh, eat and be home in time for kickoff.  Jackie wouldn’t have it any other way.
