Jerome "Jerry" Hobbs

Jerome "Jerry" Hobbs, 64, of Thomaston, GA, died peacefully on August 8, 2024, with his family lovingly by his side. While devastated by the loss, we find peace in the knowledge that he is now pain-free in the arms of his beloved Savior.

Born in Atlanta (a true Grady baby), he lived his life in Georgia and graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1978. It was there that 16-year-old Jerry met 15-year-old Teresa Yates in English class, which began a love story that spanned 48 years and will never end. They spent their lives raising three children - Matt Hobbs, Kali Vickers, and Marcie Tyler Hobbs - on any court, ball field or beach they could get their feet on.

Jerry loved the Lord, his family, his friends, the Braves, and the Georgia Bulldogs. He also never met a person he couldn't talk to, and talk he would. While his humanity included being hardheaded, opinionated, and loud, he was even more kind, funny, and warm. He would sit for hours chatting with a stranger who was usually quickly becoming a member of his extended family. He probably never knew how much he was loved by every person he met - whether in person, on the phone, or online - but truly loved he was.

He was a dedicated Christian and an active member of his church choirs. His beautiful tenor first rang out at Church of God of Prophecy and then First Baptist, both in Jonesboro. After moving, he shared his gifts at First Baptist of Thomaston and then Christ Chapel in Zebulon. His greatest desire was to share the message of God's love and grace, which was followed closely by prayers for those he loved to know the Lord and for the Dawgs to win the National Championship. Luckily, he saw all of those happen in his lifetime.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father William Hobbs, his mother Margie Breeden Hobbs, and siblings Janet Drake, Midge Street, and Junior Hobbs. He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and the great love of his life, Teresa Hobbs, his three children Matt Hobbs (Stacy), Kali Vickers, and Marcie Tyler Hobbs, his five grandchildren Kaitlyn King, Braelyn Vickers, Asher Vickers, Avery Hobbs, and Carter Hobbs, his twin brother Jeff Hobbs (JoAnne), his older brother Roy Hobbs (Faye), and many, many other family members who will miss him dearly.

A celebration of Jerry's life will be held on Saturday, August 17, at 2:00 PM, at Christ Chapel, Zebulon Campus. Rev. Billy Smith and Rev. Ricky Shepherd will officiate. The family will receive friends on Saturday, from 1:00 until 2:00 PM, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Jerry's memory to City of Hope cancer hospital to help that incredible staff care for people in need. Information can be found at cityofhope.org/giving/give-honor-or-memory.
