Mrs. Joyce Cox Wood, age 89, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at her residence. Funeral services for Mrs. Wood will be held Friday, May 3, at 2:00 PM, at Clark's Chapel Baptist Church. Rev. Dean Hemphill will officiate, and interment will follow in South View Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 1:00 PM until the funeral hour.
Mrs. Wood was born in Thomaston on July 12, 1934, to the late Rev. Olin Cox and the late Sadie Jackson Cox. She was a 1952 graduate of R. E. Lee Institute and was a homemaker. She was a long-time member of Clark's Chapel Baptist Church. Mrs. Wood was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Kerry Wood, and a brother, Ernie Cox.
Mrs. Wood is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Jackie Wood of Thomaston; two daughters: Kelli (Donald) Bagley of Dallas, GA, and Kristie (Pruitt) Wilder of Thomaston. She was affectionately known as Nanny to her eight grandchildren: Mitchell (Heather) Bagley, Jonathan (Melissa) Bagley, Logan (Ellen) Wood, Jacob (Bethany) Bagley, Kerrah (Cameron) Winters, Alex (Michael) Boynton; Madison (Paul) Whitmire, and Mason Wilder; and to her nine great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews and her special caregiver, Louann Kendrick also survive.
