Frances Kathryn Grant Cato

 

Frances Kathryn Grant Cato, age 90, of Milner, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at her home surrounded by family. Frances was born on February 12, 1934, in Thomaston.  She was preceded in death by her parents: Joseph Floyd Grant and Florrie Eugenia Swint Grant. She was also preceded in death by her brothers: Joseph Swint Grant and Robert Kendrick Grant.

Frances grew up in Milner and was a member of Milner Baptist Church, accepting Christ at the age of 9 years old. Throughout her life, she was a faithful and dedicated servant at the church through various roles such as teaching Sunday School, directing Vacation Bible School and WMU. She was also an active member of the choir for many years.

During her life, Frances helped at Swint’s Candies that was started by her grandparents, John Wesley Woodall, Sr., and Ida Mae Woodall.  She used her knowledge and skills of candy making as she married into the Cato Family in 1955.  The Cato’s owned PeeWee’s which made candies, BBQ and boiled peanuts.

Frances loved swimming, sewing, singing, rocking babies and was a huge fan of the Atlanta Braves. In addition to raising 5 children, she helped raise 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her sisters-in-law: Jane Grant and Beverly Grant; children: Ricky Cato, Michelle Freeman, Barry Cato (Beth), Cindy Hudson and Amy Harrill; grandchildren: Chad Cato, Kathryn McFarlan, Christy Baker (Bill), Grant Cato (Clarisse), Kyle Cato (Heather), Adam Hudson (Katlyn), Kayla Cato, Lauren Epperson, Katie Harrill, Tyler Cato, Matthew Harrill (Ashley); great-grandchildren: Rebecca and Madison Cauthen, Devin Cato (Caitlyn), Alaina Cato, Brylee Tillery, Jake McFarlan, Cohen and Landon Epperson, Karli, Kyndall and Kaci Cato, Addyson, Brycen and Evelyn Harrill, Mary Frances Hudson, Weston Cato; several nieces, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at 2 p.m., in the Milner Baptist Church. Pastor Jon Beck and Pastor Brad Ellington will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Ms. Cato will be taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service to lie-in-state.

Friends may visit the family on Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Moody-Daniel Funeral Home.
