Mary Nancy Herndon

Mary Nancy Herndon, 79, of Barnesville passed away Friday, February 23, 2024, at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin.

A Lamar County native, Nancy was the daughter of the late William “Jodie” and Mary Laurie Waller. Nancy was the widow of Jerry Herndon and Bobby Bohannon. She was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Williamson.

While taking care of Bobby’s mother in the mid-70s, Nancy found her niche in life, caring for the sick. She attended Griffin Vocational Technical School and became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1977. While working full-time as an LPN at the Spalding Regional Hospital, Nancy was a full-time student in the nursing program at Gordon College graduating magna cum laude in 1980. She held several positions during her working career at Spalding Regional Hospital, Heritage Inn, and the State Department of Corrections. Following the death of her daughter, Jessica Bohannon Dowdy, Nancy became the caregiver for her special needs grandson, Kyle, and wrapped her life around him. She never spent a day or night without Kyle near her until she entered the hospital on February 10th of this year.

In addition to her grandson, Kyle, survivors include her son, George (Adrienne) Williams; daughter, Laura Bohannon; grandchildren, Jeremy Heath, Kelly Griffin, Ashley (Hunter) Reaves, Kasey Breedlove, Sgt. Maj. Phillip Michael (Tansey) Breedlove and Nicole Huckaby; great-grandchildren, Hayden, David, Nicolae, Tonio, Christian, and Addison; beloved sister, Dianne McKinley; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Nancy was preceded in death by her sister, Rachel Wood O’Steen, and brother, Ronny Joe Waller.

Nancy’s family will be gathering at her home and receive friends Sunday, February 25, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Moody-Daniel Funeral Home in Zebulon. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 PM at the Greenwood Cemetery in Barnesville with Pastor Chris Pitts officiating.

Flowers will be accepted, or contributions may be made to the Gideons International for Bibles in memory of Nancy so that others around the world may come to know Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
