Mary Miller Perdue

Mrs. Mary Miller Perdue, age 103, of Thomaston, died Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at Thomaston Manor.  Funeral services for Mrs. Perdue will be held  Sunday, February 11, at 2:00 PM, in the chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Rev. Ted Kandler will officiate, and interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 12:30 until the funeral hour.

Mrs. Perdue was born on February 21, 1920, to the late George E. Miller and the late Charlie McCrary Miller of Roberta, GA.  She graduated from Crawford County High School and earned a BS degree in Education from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, GA.  She taught at R. E. Lee Grammar School for several years.  She married Ted Perdue of Thomaston on January 30, 1943, and they adopted two children, Sife and Charlene and thoroughly enjoyed helping them grow up.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Thomaston where she was active in Sunday School having taught children and young adults for a number of years and later attended the Fidelis-Grace Class, served in Training Union, and had served as director of Vacation Bible School.  She also conducted VBS at other churches in the county.  She was an instrumental part of the Pass the Salt Ministry and delivered meals for the program well into her 90's.

 

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Perdue was preceded in death by her husband, of 62 years, Charles Edward "Ted" Perdue, and her children, Sife Perdue and Charlene Hamby.  She is survived by a son-in-law, Gary (Jan) Hamby of New Smyrna Beach, FL; three grandchildren: Ted (Holly) Perdue of Buford, GA,, Ed Hamby (Tammy), and Maria (Rodney) Salter; five great grandchildren:  Cody (Alex) Salter, Shyanne (Seth)  Grimm, and Karen (Joe) Zagami, Holly Hamby (Ethan), and Ridge Hamby, and four great great grandchildren: Caiden and Hudson Salter, Ryleigh Grimm, and Sife Zagami. Several nieces and nephews, as well as her Thomaston Manor family also survive.
