Robert D Marken, 1934-2020
Born in 1934, son of an Army WWII & VA chaplain, and from Iowa with two-years at Iowa State,
Bob Marken enlisted in USAF pilot training, graduating in class 56Q. After nine years and 3,000
hours flying the F-106 and other fighter aircraft, Bob resigned as a Captain and entered
commercial aviation, co-piloting, and then captaining many aircraft, including the Convair 440,
Lockheed Electra, DC-9, L-1011, B-727, and B-757. After 26 years with Eastern Air Lines, 3
with American Eagle, and 3 with Kiwi, he retired in 1994 and remained active in general
aviation, owning several airplanes and accumulating over 30,000 hours total flying time. Bob
enjoyed a new hobby in retirement, rekindled from his high school days, tinkering with old 35mm
movie projectors, and creating Bob’s Hangar Theater, where he showed many old movies in an
airplane hangar to hundreds of friends and family. Bob enjoyed Opera, saw almost every
running of the Indy 500 since the 1950’s, and loved dogs. Bob was preceded in death by his
dad, Deloss I Marken, his mom, Helen Roberts Marken, and his sister, June Marken Doster. He
is survived by his wife Bette H Marken, his son Jeff Marken (Terri) of Baker, FL, and his
daughter, Karen Marken Napoletano (Jay) of Thomaston, GA, two granddaughters Rebecca
Marken of New York, NY, and Jessica Passmore of Thomaston, GA, and five great
grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and their children.
