John Ralph Taylor

Mr. John Ralph Taylor age 86 of Thomaston, died Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Brightmoor Hospice. 

 

Mr. Taylor was born on February 4, 1938, in Lamar County, Georgia, to the late Willie Taylor and the late Rosa Neely.  He worked for various mills in Lamar and Upson Counties, and most recently worked for Ingles in Thomaston.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Carol Jones Taylor, brothers, Raymond Taylor, Franklin Taylor, James Taylor, and Bobby Taylor.

 

Survivors include his son, John Wendell Taylor of Thomaston, sister-in-law, Jewel Taylor of Barnesville, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

 

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. from Crystal Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.

Benjamin “Benny” Franklin Hamby

Mr. Benjamin “Benny” Franklin Hamby, age 73, of Thomaston, passed away June 26, 2024. Benny grew up in Thomaston, son of the late Ernest Hamby and Mary Tolen Hamby.  He worked in electrical sales at Graybar for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Ernest Hamby, Jr., James Hamby, Donnie Hamby and Bobby Hamby and his sister, Evangeline Boyt.

 

He is survived by his daughter: Misty Conway of Thomaston; granddaughters: Kaleigh Grace Conway and Presleigh Kate Conway; great-granddaughter: Hazeleigh Rae; sisters: Hazel James of Macon, Runette Bobo (Richard) of Macon, Earnestine Fordham of Thomaston, Liz Harris of CA and Diane Hamby of Commerce; many nieces and nephews.

 

It was Benny’s wish to be cremated and no services are planned.

Paul Shannon Guy

Mr. Paul Shannon Guy, age 57, of Molena, passed away June 26, 2024, at his home.  He grew up in Forest Park, son of the late Paul Edward Guy and Mildred Elaine Johnson Robinson.  Mr. Guy worked as a mechanic for the City of Forest Park for many years and then Dependable Waste as both a driver and mechanic.  Mr. Guy moved to Molena in 1996.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching NASCAR.  His favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt, Sr.  

He is survived by his daughters:  Kaylee Guy (Dustin), Amy Guy and LeeAnn Jones (Joshua) all of Molena; father: David Robinson of Jackson; brothers: Adam Guy (Betty) and Cory Robinson both of Locust Grove; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Charles Bradley “Brad’ Castles

Mr. Charles Bradley “Brad’ Castles, age 59, of Williamson, passed away June 24, 2024.  Brad was life-long resident of Williamson and son of the late Robert F. “Bob” Castles and Ruby Ann Ballard Castles. At the age of 5, Brad started farming. When he was old enough, he went to work as a mechanic for Consolidated Freight and then at ABF Truck Line in Conley where he worked for 22 years before retiring. Brad loved his family, being at home, farming his land, and riding the dirt roads.

He is preceded in death by his nephew, Ryan Wilson.

 

Brad is survived by his wife: Cathy Castles; sisters and a brother: Beth Brady, Billy Castles (Faye), Becky Pryor (Paul), and Bonnie Storey (Jay); uncle:  Perry Ballard; aunt: Nikki Ellard; nephew: Bubba Pierce; brothers-in-law:  Billy Lawrence (Ann) and Ricky Lawrence; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home. Burial will follow.

Bobbie Runelle Littleton Langford

Mrs. Bobbie Runelle Littleton Langford, age 87, of Barnesville, passed away June 23, 2024, at Heritage Inn Nursing Home in Barnesville.  She grew up in Barnesville, daughter of the late Robert Clarance Littleton and Alma Mae Lane Littleton.  She worked for the William Carter Company for many years, retiring as a supervisor.  Mrs. Langford was a long-time member of Barnesville Church of the Nazarene where she taught Sunday School. Along with her husband, they led the van ministry picking up many children for church. Most of those children still called them Grannie and PawPaw all these years.  She enjoyed working in her yard and tending to her flowers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her childhood sweetheart and husband of 62 years: Fred Issac Langford, Sr.; sons: Mike Langford and Billie Langford; brothers: Irvin, Lee, Clarence, Larry, and Raymond; sister: Cladelle; and daughter-in-law: Norma Jean Langford; and great-granddaughter: Lacy Marie Arnold.

 

She is survived by her sons: Fred “Freddie” Langford, Jr. and Steve Langford (Jeanie); grandchildren: Angela, Amanda, Amy, Ashley, Sandy, Haley, Heather, Rusty, Tyler and Hannah; 30 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren with another one on the way; sister: Betty Lindauer; and many nieces and nephews.

 

The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Inn for the wonderful care they gave to Mrs. Langford. Their care and love for her did not go unnoticed. She was so blessed to have so much love from everyone there.

 

Friends may visit the family on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.  

 

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at 11 a.m., in the Barnesville Church of the Nazarene, 744 Veterans Parkway, Barnesville. Pastor Mark Henson and Pastor Lonnie Grant, Jr. will officiate.  Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Barnesville.

Cecil Kirk Patrick

Mr. Cecil Kirk Patrick, age 55, of Barnesville, passed away June 22, 2024.  Kirk grew up in Barnesville, son of the late James Cecil Patrick and Brenda Jo Dumas Patrick. He was a hard worker and was currently employed at Ranew’s in Thomaston.  He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Along with his parents, Kirk was preceded in death by his sister, Toni Coffey.

 

He is survived by his children: Tiffany, Michael and Jesse; sisters and a brother: Tracey Day (Rodney), Terri Smith, and Aaron Patrick (Misty); special niece: Abby Patrick and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also, special great-nieces and a great-nephew: Italy Patrick, Jurney Washington and Alexander Owings.

 

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 3 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home.

Terrell Perkins

Mr. Terrell Perkins age 88 of Thomaston Ga, died Friday June 21, 2024 at Harborview Health and Rehab.

Mr. Perkins was born on October 18,1935 in Reynolds Ga, to the late Walter Frank Perkins and the late Elizabeth "Lizzie" Morrell Perkins. He was formerly employed with Thomaston Mills where he worked as a Loom Fixer for many years. Mr. Perkins attended Shiloh Baptist Church and served his country in the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Vivian Helen Roberson Perkins and sister Bessie Lou Ellington.

 

Survivors include his daughter Karen (Gary) Salter of Thomaston Ga, grandchildren Jeremy Salter of Thomaston Ga, Dallas (Nick) Hemby of Yatesville Ga, Dalton Salter of Thomaston Ga, great grandchildren Arrie Salter, Aylin Salter, Nash Hemby, Flynt Hemby, Cailyn Salter.

Janis Morris James

Mrs. Janis Morris James age 84 of Thomaston Ga, died Thursday June 20, 2024 at Providence Health and Rehab.

Mrs. James was born on March 4, 1940 in Porterdale Ga, to the late Willie Perry Morris and the late Paulene Wages Morris. She worked as a Supervisor of the Engineer Department with the William Carter Company for many years. Mrs. James was a member of the Thomaston Kingdom Hall of Jehova's Witnesses. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Carl Bruce James, daughters Kimberly James & Melody James Kemp. Mrs. James is also preceded in death by several siblings.

 

Survivors include her daughter Kayla (Randy) Teal of Thomaston Ga, brother Ray (Betty) Morris of Thomaston Ga, sisters Pamela Russell of Virginia, Debbie (Dan) Sanders of California, grandchildren Steven Thompson, Jennifer Pitts, David Martin, Janice (Cody) Smith, 12 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild.

Sheron Sims Cook

Sheron Sims Cook, age 74, of Orchard Hill, passed away June 17, 2024, at her home, holding the hands of her children. Her last desire was to meet Jesus at home in her own room.

Sheron was born on February 6, 1950, in Griffin, daughter of the late Claude Sims and the late Ola Mae Mote Sims. She spent nearly 30 years working as a nurse at Heritage Inn in Barnesville and the last 15 years as a nurse at the Lamar County Detention Center. She took pride in her oil-paintings and her beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. Sheron collected rocks and magnets from her children’s travels throughout the world. She enjoyed sewing and quilting and made quilts for each of her children. She raised her children and family in the admiration of the Lord.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Broadas Sims.

Survivors include her children, Shannon Cook (Cris Craft), Kelly Wilson (John), and Michael Cook (Robyn); grandchildren, Jordan Cook, Taylor Cook, and Haley Laney; sister, Gennie Williamson.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home. Friends may visit the family on Thursday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Moody Memorial Gardens.

Jimmy Duwayne Anderson Jr

Mr. Jimmy Duwayne Anderson Jr. age 57 of Thomaston, died Sunday, June 16, 2024, at his residence.

Mr. Anderson was born on October 9, 1967, in Gainesville, Georgia, to the late Jimmy Duwayne Anderson Sr. and Carolyn Stover Anderson.  He was a carpenter and worked in Maintenace at Turkey Creek Snacks. He was a member of Christ Chapel.  He is preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his mother Carolyn Anderson of Thomaston, brother, Jeff Anderson of Thomaston, sister, Wanda (Edward) McWaters of Banks, Alabama.

Teresa Lynn Green Hill

Mrs. Teresa Lynn Green Hill, age 65, of Yatesville, died Friday, June 14, 2024, at her residence.

Mrs. Hill was born in Atlanta, GA, on January 31, 1959. She had been employed by Sneakers as a manager for twenty-four years. Mrs. Hill was a member of Clark’s Chapel Baptist Church.

Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her mother, Lillian Lucille Newton Croft, and her brothers, Charlie Green and Ed Green. She is survived by her husband, Phillip Hill of Yatesville; two sons: Shane Hill of Yatesville; and Robert (Yolanda) Hill of Yatesville; two sisters: Dianna Pace of Thomaston; and Lucy (Henry) Hawkins of Thomaston; three brothers: Henry (Elsa) Green of Cumming; Eric W. Green of Qatar; and Willie (Teresa) Green of Rome; and three grandchildren: Elijah Hill, Gage Hill, and Holden Beacham. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Patricia D. Purkey

Patricia D. Purkey, 63, of Williamson, GA passed away into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday 06/13/2024 at her home.

Patricia drove school buses for Clayton and Gordon counties and the City of Calhoun, transporting unknown numbers of children, over many years and many miles safely with never an incident or loss. 

 

Due to her stellar record, she was chosen to drive a bus carrying the sitting Governor of Georgia and other state and local dignitaries investigating an accident involving a county school bus at a railroad crossing.

 

Patricia is survived by her husband of 44 years Michael Purkey Sr. of Williamson, their 3 children, Michael Purkey Jr. and Sean Purkey of Calhoun, GA, Candace Purkey-Mezick and husband Chaz Mezick of Denison, IA, along with 13 grandchildren, brothers James, Danny and Wayne Gipson, church family and friends. 

 

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents James and Barbara Gipson of Newnan, GA, brother Eddie Gipson and grandson Wyatt Mezick.

 

She was a faithful, devoted, loving wife, mother and Nanna to her family. Her interests were cooking, baking and occasionally fishing. Though not known by many, she also was a 15th Level Grand Master on Xbox Call of Duty as DixieGirl327.

Michael Jackson Burks

Mr. Michael Jackson Burks, age 71, of Thomaston, died Friday, June 14, 2024, at his residence.

Mr. Burks was born on July 20, 1952, in Upson County, Georgia, to the late Paul Jackson Burks, and the late Catherine Stevens Burks.  He worked in the bleachery at the Thomaston Mills.  He is preceded in death by his parents.

 

Survivors include his wife, Tammy Burks of Thomaston, son, Michael (Kat) Burks of Thomaston, brothers, Danny (Angie) Burks, Keith (Crystal) Burks, sister, Paulette Corley, grandchildren, Sean Burks Houseknecht, and Seth Burks.

Samantha “Sam” Ellington

Ms. Samantha “Sam” Ellington age 37, of Atlanta, Georgia passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at her residence.

She was born on March 11, 1987, in Thomaston, Georgia to Rodney Ellington and the late Lori Passmore.  Samantha was known for her infectious laughter, spontaneity, and love of traveling. She never met a stranger and her free spirit touched the lives of all who came in contact with her. As bar manager and former bartender at Friends on Ponce, there was no one like “Sam” herself. Her management skills, selflessness, and charisma will be missed dearly.  She is preceded in death by her mother.

Survivors include her father Rodney (Christi) Ellington of Meansville, stepfather Jimmy Passmore of Colorado brother Richard “Rick” Ellington of Forsyth, stepbrother, Randy Passmore of Tampa, Florida and stepsister, Danielle (Graham) Bearden of Jackson, niece Emily, and nephews Trevor, James, Samuel, Sawyer.

The Family will hold a celebration of Sam’s life on June 15, 2024 from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at Coggins Funeral Home.  A Memorial service will be held at a later date.

Zachary Levi Jones

Petty Officer One Zachary Levi Jones, USN Ret., age 51, of Jacksonville, Florida,, died Monday, June 10, 2024, at his residence.  Graveside funeral services with military honors will be held on Saturday, June 15, at 11:00 AM, in the Molena City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday evening, June 14, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

Mr. Jones was born in Columbus, OH, on November 13, 1972.  He was a 1991 graduate of Pike County High School and later earned a bachelor's degree. He a veteran of the US Navy, having retired as a Petty Officer One with twenty plus years of service.  He had previously been employed as a deputy with the Pike County and Spalding County Sheriff's Office and with  the Thomaston Police Department.  Mr. Jones enjoyed fishing and hunting.  He was a member of the Molena Baptist Church.

Mr. Jones was preceded in death by a sister, Angie Jones.  He is survived by two sons: William Jones and Ben Jones, both  of  Palm Beach Gardens, FL; and his parents, Larry and Evelyn Jones of West Point, GA.

Mary Alice Wynn

Mrs. Mary Alice Wynn, age 83 of Thomaston, died Monday, June 10, 2024, at Upson Regional Medical Center.

 

Mrs. Wynn was born on December 15, 1940, in Sandersville, Georgia, to the late Arthur Peavy, and the late Orie Lee Wilkins Peavy.  She retired from Riverside Health and Rehab as a nurse.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Wynn, daughter, Angela Sturgeon, brothers, Son Peavy, Jimmy Peavy, Jack Peavy, and sisters, Etta Mae Trawick, and Dorris Gibson.

 

Survivors include her daughter, Kim (Randy) Parker of Thomaston, son, Tony Smith of Middleburg, Florida, brothers, Bobby (Nita) Peavy of Milledgeville, Eddie (Gail) Peavy of Macon, grandchildren, Kayla Parker, Chris Parker, B.J. Whitley, Faith Garner, Susan Diana, and seven great-grandchildren.

Robert Lee “Bob” White, Sr

Mr. Robert Lee “Bob” White, Sr., age 79, of Griffin, passed away June 8, 2024, at his home.  Bob grew up in LaGrange, son of the late Joe I. White and Hazel Compton White. He began working at an early age with his dad who was a masonry contractor. After graduating from LaGrange High School in 1962, Bob attended Gordon Military College and the University of Richmond in VA where he played football for both, and then earned his bachelor’s degree from Auburn University.  For many years Bob was a teacher and football coach for the Cuthbert and Colquitt, Georgia school systems. Later he worked for Thomaston Mills as an industrial engineer and retired from there in 2001. 

Bob enjoyed fishing, football and country music.  He was a big jokester who was always playing tricks on people and making them laugh. 

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Eugenia Thompson, and father-in-law, Robert Sheets.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years: Cynthia Sheets White; children: Robert Lee White, Jr. and Heather White Walker (Jerry); grandchildren: Caleb White, Edith English, Everett Walker, Owen Walker, and Ruby Walker; brother: Joe Irvin White, Jr. (Bobbie); nephews and nieces: Rocky White (Anita), Foy White (Monica), Kim Overman (Chuck), Mac White, and Holly Biddy (Jeremy); mother-in-law: Laverne Sheets; and brother-in-law: Robert Thompson.

Hunter Thomas Knight

Mr. Hunter Thomas Knight, age 26, passed away June 7, 2024.  Hunter was a kind soul with a heart of gold.  He loved children, video games and fishing.  He will be missed greatly by all who loved him.

 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Alisha Knight, grandfathers, Pete Knight and Dale Jackson.

 

He is survived by his children: Johnathan Thomas and Ava Renee; his father and step-mother: Stacy and Casey Knight; brothers: Holden Knight, Joshua Van Houten and Billie James Van Houten; sisters: Stephane Knight and Stephanie McCumber; grandmothers: Elaine Knight and Teresa Jackson; special family friends: Seth and Shyanne Grimm, Austin Edwards, Courtney Ellerbee and William “Bubba” Trotter; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends who were like family.

Barbara Jane Whitley DeLoatch

Mrs. Barbara Jane Whitley DeLoatch age 88 of Thomaston Ga, died Saturday June 8, 2024 at Atrium Health Navicent in Macon.

Mrs. DeLoatch was born on February 6, 1936 in Lagrange Ga, to the late William Oliver Whitley and the late Lila Mae Irvin Whitley. She worked as an office manager in the dental industry for many years. Mrs. DeLoatch was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Jesse DeLoatch & brother Fred Thomas Fincher.

 

Survivors include her sons Thomas (Lynn) DeLoatch of Albany Ga, Dennis (Nancy) DeLoatch of Ft. Mountain Ga, Ryan (Stayce) DeLoatch of Thomaston Ga, 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren.

Janis Doolittle Lutke

Mrs. Janis Doolittle Lutke age 73 of Thomaston Ga, died Saturday June 8, 2024 at her residence. 

Mrs. Lutke was born on August 16, 1950 in Thomaston Ga, to the late William Doolittle and the late Ellen Johnson Doolittle. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Gary Lutke, brother Mark Doolittle & sister Anne Butts.

 

Survivors include her daughters Christina Golden of York, Pa, Jan (Steve) Chandler of Clarksville Tn, Jill (Gary) Thomas of Warner Robins Ga, son John (Jessica) Lutke of The Rock Ga, brother William Timothy Doolittle of Meansville Ga, 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren. Several nieces also survive.

Martha Ruffin Rodgers

Martha Ruffin Rodgers of Zebulon passed away on June 5, 2024.  Martha was born February 22, 1928, in Yatesville to the late Asa Lee Ruffin and Mardelle Kennedy Ruffin.  Martha married W. Shelor Rodgers on August 29, 1947.  They moved to Zebulon in 1949 where they owned and operated City Pharmacy until Shelor retired in 1988. Martha was an active member of Zebulon First Baptist Church for 75 years.  

Martha was preceded in death by her husband, Shelor Rodgers; her daughter-in-law, Laurie Rodgers; four sisters, Mary Fowler, Myrtice Kitchens, Ruth Ballard, and Bonnie Alsobrooks.  She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Jack Ruffin, Champ Ruffin, and Bobby Ruffin.  

Martha is survived by her son, Farris Rodgers; her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and David Wright and her grandsons, Nathaniel and Samuel Wright.  She is also survived by her sister, Dot Mulling and her brother, Johnny Ruffin and many nieces and nephews.  

Friends and family can visit the family on Friday, June 14 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody-Daniel Funeral Home in Zebulon.  

Martha's funeral service will be Saturday, June 15 at 11:00 a.m., at Zebulon First Baptist Church. Interment will follow the funeral at East View Cemetery in Zebulon.

Jackie Warren Wood


Mr. Jackie Warren Wood, age 90, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, June 4, 2024, athis residence.  Funeral services for Mr. Wood will be held Friday, June 7,at 3:00 PM, at Clark's Chapel Baptist Church.  Rev. Dean Hemphill willofficiate, and interment will follow in South View Cemetery.  The familywill receive friends at the church on Friday from 2:00 PM until the funeralhour.

 

Mr. Wood was born in Cumming, GA,  on February 23, 1934, to the late

Mitchell L. Wood and the late Essie Wood Wainwright.  He was a retired

project engineer with the GA Department of Transportation with 34 years of

service.  He was a veteran of the US Air Force, and he was a long-time

member of Clark's Chapel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, youth

leader, choir member, and heavily involved with church sports.  Mr. Wood was

an avid Atlanta Braves fan and a devoted husband, father and PaPa.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68

years, Joyce Cox Wood; a son, Kerry Wood; his stepfather, Bobby Wainwright;

and four siblings: Larry WOod, Louise Colbert, Shirley Hamby, and Kathleen

Lane.

 

Mr. Wood is survived by two daughters: Kelli (Donald) Bagley of Dallas, GA,

and Kristie (Pruitt) Wilder of Thomaston, and a sister, Brenda Blackmon of

Thomaston.  He was affectionately known as PaPa to his eight grandchildren:

Mitchell (Heather) Bagley, Jonathan (Melissa) Bagley, Logan (Ellen) Wood,

Jacob (Bethany) Bagley, Kerrah (Cameron) Winters, Alex (Michael) Boynton;

Madison (Paul) Whitmire, and Mason Wilder; and to his nine great

grandchildren.  Several nieces and nephews and his special caregiver, LouAnn

Kendrick also survive.

John Virgil Hill

 

Mr. John Virgil Hill age 82, of Thomaston died Monday, June 3, 2024, at his residence.

Mr. Hill was born on December 12, 1941, in Taliaferro County, Georgia, to the late Roy Hill and Louise Johnson Hill.  He retired from the Martha Mills after 40 plus years.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Clarence and James Hill.

Survivors include his son, Kyle (Monica) Hill of Fredericksburg, Virginia and grandchildren, Ethyn Hill and Jake Hill.

Mr. Hill was cremated, and no services are planned at this time.

Andrew “Andy” Guy Dawson, Sr.

Mr. Andrew “Andy” Guy Dawson, Sr., age 53, of Concord, passed away June 2, 2024.  Andy grew up in Woodbury and graduated from Flint River Academy.  In his early years, he worked with his dad at their family’s BP Gas Station in Woodbury.  Andy earned his CDL license from Flint River Technical College and was Shop Foreman for McCoy Grading in Greenville, where he had worked for the last 22 years.  He enjoyed being outdoors, loved both saltwater and freshwater fishing, and duck hunting.

He is survived by his wife:  Carrie Clemence Dawson; children: Drew Dawson of Concord, Nolan Riggins (Zoe) of Minneapolis, MN, and Maddie Riggins of Concord; parents: Guy Dawson, Jr. and Phyllis Evans Dawson of Woodbury; sister: Julie Dawson of Woodbury; nieces: Katelyn Turner (Dusty), Hannah Colley (Alex), and Emily Singleton; great-nephew: Axton Turner; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends may visit the family on Thursday, June 6, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Moody-Daniel Funeral Home in Zebulon.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 11 a.m., in the Woodbury Baptist Church. Pastor Don Gibbs will officiate.  Burial will follow in Woodbury Cemetery.

Andy will be taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service to lie-in-state.

Johnnie Wesley Thompson

Coach Johnnie Wesley Thompson, age 79, of Williamson, passed away May 31, 2024.  Coach Thompson grew up in Thomaston, son of the late Warren Thompson and Irene Smith Thompson Fordham. He graduated from R. E. Lee Institute in 1962 and enlisted in the United States Air Force. After being honorably discharged from the military, he worked for the Department of Transportation. Later he attended Columbus College where he earned his bachelor’s degree in education. After deciding to go into administration, he received his master’s and 6-year degree in Education from West Georgia College in Carrollton. Coach Thompson began his career in education as a teacher and coach in the Taylor County School System. Later he was a teacher, coach, then Assistant Principal at his beloved Robert E. Lee Institute. Coach Thompson then became Principal at Jefferson High School then finished his school administration career at Jackson High School.

For many years, Coach Thompson was an active member of Trinity Baptist Church in Thomaston, then Fayetteville First Baptist Church where he faithfully served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. More recently, he was a member of First Baptist Church in Barnesville.

 

Coach Thompson enjoyed golfing, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was constantly teaching them new things and helping them memorize Bible verses. He was an avid GA Bulldog fan.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Woodson.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years:  Midge Thompson; sons: Grant Thompson (Candy) of Barnesville and Lang Thompson (Meloni) of Williamson; grandchildren: Aria Morgan (Tyler), Laney Reed (Ben), Brannon Waller, Carlyn Waller, Erin Thompson, Liam Thompson, Duncan Thompson; great-grandchildren: Lilly Morgan, Parker Morgan, Jackson Reed, Cora Belle Lopez, Charlotte Fitts; sister: Vickie Hayes (Cooter); several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 3, 2024, at 2 p.m., in the First Baptist Church of Barnesville. Pastor Jason Teal and Pastor Garth Forster will officiate. A private burial will be held at Southview Cemetery in Thomaston.

 

Friends may visit the family on Monday, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., at the church.

Jimmy Coulton Stripling

Mr. Jimmy Coulton Stripling age 83 of Thomaston, died Friday, May 31, 2024, at his residence.  

Mt. Stripling was born on January 5, 1941, in Tifton, Georgia, to the late J.C. Stripling and the late Eddie Sue Wynn Stripling.  He worked as a mechanic and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Shirley Baldree, and Nadine Hooks.

 

Survivors include his daughters, Tina (Dwight) Smith, Ginger (Jackie) Smith, grandchildren, Brandy (Jimmy) Hansen, Jimmy (Samantha) Williamson, Corey Thomas, great-grandchildren, Brody Yates, Brynlee Yates, and David Williamson.

 

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. from Fellowship Baptist Church.  Burial will follow at Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Monday, June 3, 2024, from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. from Coggins Funeral Home.

Sandra Diane Franklin Herring

Mrs. Sandra Diane Franklin Herring, age 81, of Thomaston, died Sunday, June 2, 2024. at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin GA.

Mrs. Herring was born on March 28, 1943, in Thomaston, Georgia to the late Joseph Preston Franklin and the late Bessie Lenell Salter Spillers.  She worked as a secretary for Dr. Gardner and attended East Thomaston Baptist Church.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Fred Herring.

 

Survivors include her husband Henry Avery Herring of Thomaston, daughter, Sherri Lynn (Joseph) Herring Miller of Thomaston, son, Henry Scott (Tammie) Herring of Thomaston, grandchildren, Keith Herring, Katie (Jeremy) Bishop, Elizabeth Davis, great grandchildren, Hallie Kate Bishop, Alexander Herring, Kendall Bishop, and Tripp Davis.

 

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. from Crystal Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, from 3:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.

Carman Renee Cooper Smith

Mrs. Carman Renee Cooper Smith, age 53, of Culloden, passed away May 31, 2024. Renee was born in Gadsden, AL and moved to Georgia at an early age where she lived in Riverdale and Jonesboro. She was a homemaker and a wonderful stay-at-home mom when her children were young. Later, she worked in the hotel industry, and was currently working at Walmart in Forsyth. Renee was a loving wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, and aunt. She was loved by everyone who knew her, always had a smile on her face, and was a bonus Mom to so many.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Miriam and Irby Campbell and Imo and Johnny Cooper, father-in-law, Phillip Smith, and her beloved dogs, Windi and Bear.

 

She is survived by her husband: Dwayne Phillip Smith; daughters: Felecia Smith (Willie Brandon Jones), Megan Smith, and Ashlee Waddell (Karlton); grandchildren: Amelie Cunningham, Aden Jones, Bentley Smith, Noah Tague, Bentley Waddell, Dixie Jones, Fiona Tague, Waylon Smith, Madison Smith and Axel Jones; mother: Cannell Campbell Cooper; father: Winston Cooper; sister: Nancy Cooper (Isidro), Audrey Fowler (Will), and Tiffany Cooper; mother-in-law: Pat Smith;  the family dog: Prissy; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

 

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, June 9, 2024, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with friend and Pastor Brian Simon officiating.
