Samuel Harold “Sam” Morrison

Mr. Samuel Harold “Sam” Morrison, age 84, of Griffin, passed away June 30, 2023.  Sam grew up in Ripley, MS, son of the late Marion Morrison and Artie Davis Morrison. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Army, and served in Hawaii.  Sam was an expert marksman. After being honorably discharged from the military, he moved to Colorado where he lived for 25 years.  During this time, he was in the excavating business in the spring and summer months, and shoveled snow and cleared parking lots for the fire department in the winter months. When his daughter was young, he coached her in basketball, softball, tennis, and powder puff football. 

He was a long-time member of Center Point Church in Griffin where he loved talking to everyone as a greeter.  For the last seven years, Sam worked as a driver coordinator for Knapheide Equipment Center in Griffin.  He enjoyed golfing, watching NASCAR and Chase Elliott, his favorite driver.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammie Runager, grandson, Akari Kistner, and his brother, J. D. Morrison.

 

He is survived by his wife:  Sandra Fortner Morrison; children: Wendy Kistner and Keith Jones (Michelle); grandchildren: Zaine Kistner, Kyle Jones, Kody Jones, Ryan Runager and Adam Runager; sisters and a brother: Mary Etta Hall, Wayne Morrison (Cathy) and Lucille Stokes; many nieces and nephews.

 

Friends may visit the family on Sunday, July 2, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., at Center Point Church in Griffin.  Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., in the church, and burial will follow in Westwood Gardens in Griffin.
