MRS. NONNIE SUE KENT HICKS WRIGHT

Mrs. Nonnie Sue Kent Hicks Wright, age 88, of Zebulon, passed away January 20, 2022. She was born in Thomaston, GA in 1933 to the late Earlin Kent and Annie Lou Bishop Kent. After graduating from high school in Alexandria, VA, she went to work at the Pentagon and became best friends for life with Peggy Twardzik. She also met and married Marine Sgt. Irwin Hicks in 1952.. A son arrived in 1953 and a daughter in 1954.

Sue’s life was dedicated to her family and the upbringing of her children. She was always involved in the church wherever she lived. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and was very involved in women's ministries. During her husband's deployment to Vietnam, she went to Upson Tech and got her LPN license. After Vietnam, the family moved to Beaufort, S.C. While there she worked in pediatrics at the Naval Hospital in Beaufort. Upon her husband’s retirement in 1973, they moved to Pike County to be near his family. She managed the office for Dr. Banlu Potitong for a number of years. The last 15 years of her career were spent at Milby Clinic in Zebulon. Through it all she remained involved in her church. She was a member of Pike Assembly of God at the time of her death.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia Delynne Hicks age 28, brothers Leon Kent, John Wayne Kent, and Max Kent. She outlived both her husbands, Irwin Hicks died in 1990 and James Wright in 2007.

She is survived by her son Michael Stephen Hicks, one sister Yvonne Hamby, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She wished to be cremated. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Pike County Assembly of God in Zebulon. Family and friends will visit from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a funeral service at 1:00 pm. Everyone is asked to use good Covid safety practices.

In lieu of flowers, folks are encouraged to make a donation to Pike Assembly of God, 4099 Hwy. 19 South, Zebulon, GA 30295, in her honor. This will help with programs like Children of the Promise and the monthly food bank.

Moody-Daniel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
