Mr. Burnette was born on November 18, 1937 in Thomaston Ga, to the late Hugh Burnette and the late Sallie Mae Burnette. He enjoyed many years of camping, hunting, fishing, laughing and wise-cracking with friends and family. Mr. Burnette was diagnosed with Myelodysplatic Syndrome in 2016. He was blessed with wonderful medical professionals who cared for him throughout his illness, and his family will forever be grateful to the doctors, nurses, and all support staff for their efforts, honesty and respect. Mr. Burnette was a member of Emory's Chapel Baptist Church where he was ordained as a deacon on March 6, 1977 and faithfully served since that time. He served his country in the Army National Guard.
Mr. Burnette is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Shirley Joyce Humphrey Burnette, his children Terri Brock, Toni Watkins and Matthew (Kimberly) Burnette. He was blessed with 4 grandchildren Lauren Taylor Bray, Levi Parker, Troy James Burnette and Maddi Hoodenpyle and a faithful beloved companion Bandit, one brother Hulon (Joy) Burnette, nieces and nephews Kathy (Shane) Pollard, Chris (Jena) Burnette, Cassie (Brent) Johnson and many loving cousins and wonderful friends also survive.
In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored for blood donations to the American Red Cross or donations to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at 3 International Drive, Suite 200 Rye Brook, NY 10573 in Memory of Pop.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Emory's Chapel Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 from 6:00 pm. - 8:00 p.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.
