FORMER SCHOOL BOARD CHAIR HELEN SALTER

Helen Lucile Forbus  Salter died Saturday, September 2, 2017 at her residence.

She was born May 5, 1925 , to Lucile R and William B. Forbus in LaGrange (Troup County) Georgia.  She relocated to Thomaston at the age of seven, making her it and Upson County her home for the remainder of her life. 

Helen was a loving mother and grandmother to many. In her early years she worked full time as a bookkeeper by trade and she served her community as a member of the Upson County Board of Education becoming the first woman elected as Chairperson. Helen was a graduate of R.E.Lee and attended Bessis Tift College in Forsyth. She  married the love of her life, Hughlette H. Salter and they had eight children. She was a woman of  faith and prayer, passing along a rich heritage to her family and community as she embodied an attitude of humility, service and love.

 Helen was predeceased by her brother, Robert Forbus, her parents, Lucile and Bonner Forbus, her beloved husband, Hughlette Salter, two sons, Michael, Pat; daughter, Susan. She is survived by her sisters, Joyce F. Bailey of Winter Haven FL, Anne (Joel) Stowers of Athens GA; her children and their families: daughters, Theresa (Al) Medcalf, Melissa (Steve) Fowler both of Thomaston, Katrina (Patrick) Salter- Wood of Hawkinsville GA; sons, David (Sheila) Salter, Bob Salter, son-in-law, Joe Moon, all of Thomaston, GA; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. 

Graveside services will be at 11am, Monday, September 4th, 2017,at the Salter Family Cemetery, David Road, Thomaston, Georgia. The family will receive friends after the service at graveside.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Upson County Hightower Memorial Library, 800 W Gordon St, Thomaston GA 30286.
