MRS. MADELYN HICKMON COLLINS

Mrs. Madelyn Hickmon Collins, 98, of Thomaston, died Wednesday, January 13th, 2016.
Funeral services for Mrs. Collins will be held on Saturday, January 16th, 2016 in the Chapel of the Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Burial will follow in South View Cemetery.
The family of Mrs. Collins will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Saturday from 1 pm until the funeral hour.
Mrs. Collins was born in Effingham County on November 21st, 1917, a daughter of the late George W. Hickmon and Neppie Webb Hickmon. She was a 1934 graduate of R. E. Lee Institute.
Mrs. Collins and her husband, the late Williams Harris Collins, Sr., owned and operated the Collins ABC Grocery Store for many years.
Mrs. Collins was a charter member of the Trinity Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 40 years. She had been a member and director of the local Women's Missionary Union and took an active role in the state organization. She was also a member of the Woodmen of the World.,
Mrs. Collins is survived by a daughter, Harriett C. Raines of Yatesville; a son, William Harris "Billy" (JoAnn) Collins, Jr., of Lincolnton; a brother, James Hickmon of Atlanta; eight grandchildren, Bill Collins of Yatesville, Chris (Angie) Collins of Lincolnton, Laurie (Eric) Larson of Evans, Karen (Thomas) Howell of Thomaston, Elizabeth Leavitt of Thomaston, Melissa Iacobellis of Seattle, WA, James (Rachel) Collins of Stone Mountain and Alan (Gina) Collins of Saint Louis, MO; and ten great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley C. Leavitt and a son, James H. Collins.

Fletcher-Day Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
