Mr Billy Mack Phillips

Mr. Billy Mack Phillips, Sr., 83, of Thomaston, died Thursday, July 23rd, 2015 at Golden Living Center.

Funeral services for Mr. Phillips will be held on Saturday, July 25th, 2015 at 11:00 a. m., at the First Baptist Church of Thomaston with the Rev. Bill Barber officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in South View Cemetery. The family of Mr. Phillips will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Friday from 5 until 7 pm.

Mr. Phillips was born in Glennville on April 1, 1932, a son of the late Joseph McCall Phillips and Lavonia Brannon Phillips. He was a graduate of Ga. Tech and earned degrees in Textile Engineering and Industrial Management. He was retired from B. F. Goodrich where he had been a production scheduler.
Mr. Phillips was also a veteran of the Georgia Army National Guard. At his retirement after 31 years of service he held the rank of Brigadier General.

Mr. Phillips was a member of the First Baptist Church in Thomaston and was a former member of the Glennville First United Methodist Church and the Druid Hills Baptist Church in Atlanta. He was also a Mason, a Shriner, and a member of the Thomaston Lions Club.

Mr. Phillips had been a Boy Scout Master and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award for his service to that organization. He had also served as a youth sports coach for several different sports.

Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife of 60 years, Virginia N. Phillips; two sons, David (Judy) Phillips of Fletcher, NC and Charles (Cheryl) Phillips of Brooks; a daughter-in-law, Dianne Phillips; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Billy Mack Phillips, Jr.
