Milfred "Skip" Twitchell

Milfred "Skip" Twitchell aka Mildred Twitchell, PhD died from pancreatic cancer at the age of 73, on October 31, 2022.  Dr. Twitchell lived an extremely varied complex life.

After graduating from Woodstock High in 1967, he joined the US Army where he taught turbine theory prior to spending 2 tours in Vietnam where he worked as a crew chief and finished out his last as NCOIC of a 12-man maintenance detachment. This experience greatly changed his life. The rest of his life was a constant battle with the symptoms of PTSD.

In spite of this handicap, he earned a Federal Aviation airframe and power plants license, an AS in Aviation Management, AS in Engineering at Enterprise State Junior College, a BS in Industrial Arts Education at Auburn University, and a PhD in Vocational Education at LSU. Dr. Twitchell spent his entire life learning and teaching.

One of the symptoms of PTSD was dissatisfaction with the many jobs he tried searching for something that fit his needs. Dr. Twitchell worked the following jobs for many different employers, motorcycle mechanic, carpenter, technical trainer in industrial maintenance, course ware developer, manager of eight technical trainers, electrician, and training consultant plant maintenance.

Thirty-five years of psychological treatment focused on depression finally brought the proper diagnosis, Dr. Twitchell was a male-to-female transgender. On learning this in her late 40's, she started five long difficult years transitioning. On finishing her transition, Dr. Twitchell moved to Georgia and started living a satisfying and happy life. After struggling for 35 years to find a comfortable way to live, she finally succeeded and spent the last 15 years enjoying living a life where she could finally be herself.

It was Dr. Twitchell’s wish to be cremated and no formal services are planned.
