Janet Faye Prince Willis

Mrs. Janet Faye Prince Willis, age 65, of Milner, passed away March 28, 2024, at her home.  She grew up in Rex, GA, daughter of the late Wade Prince and Elma Faye Smith Prince. Janet was a homemaker, who loved animals, especially horses and country living. She was an excellent baker and milled her own grain to make fresh bread for her family.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Debbie and brother, Mike.

 

She is survived by her husband of 45 years: Eddie Willis; children: Joshua Willis (Amanda), Jeremiah Willis, Emmanuel Willis (Alyssa), Elijah Willis and Hannah Stowers (Josh); grandchildren; Tybee Willis, Josiah Willis, Sarah Willis, Lincoln Willis, Silas Stowers, Noah Stowers, and Levi Stowers; brother: Danny Prince; several nieces and nephews.

 

Friends may visit the family on Monday, April 1, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home.

 

Burial will follow in Moody Memorial Gardens.

Billie Joan Crawford Gunn

Mrs. Billie Joan Crawford Gunn, age 88, of Zebulon, passed away March 31, 2024.  She grew up in Griffin, daughter of the late Arch Crawford and Ethel Entrekin Crawford. Billie worked at American Mills for many years and was a home healthcare nurse.  She enjoyed traveling with her brothers and sisters, and she especially loved cruises.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmie T. Gunn, Sr., daughter, Theresa Irene Livington, brother, Charles and sisters Joyce and Jean.

She is survived by her children: Jim T. Gunn (Patty) and Kathy Pippin (Tim); grandchildren: Katy McCarthy (Erik), Jennifer Pippin, Ashley Pippin, Blake Gunn and Desarae Livington; sisters and a brother: Dorothy, Marie, Joanne, Gail, and Ricky; many nieces and nephews.

Ernest Lamar Haygood Sr

Mr. Ernest Lamar Haygood, Sr., age 86, of Thomaston, died Sunday, March 31, 2024, at Providence Health & Rehab. 

Mr. Haygood was born Jan. 22, 1938, in Upson County, to the late Thomas Haygood and the late Eva Mae Carter Chambley. He served his country in the Georgia Army National Guard and worked as an instructor at Gilmore Center. Earnest worked for years in the newspaper industry with The Thomaston Times and was crucial in helping start The Upson Beacon.

He could build anything and loved working with wood. He adored his family, especially his grandchildren, and was a great friend to many. He was a member of Zion Chapel Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Fossett Haygood.

Survivors include his daughters, Shannon Haygood, Cynthia Farrell, Karen (Dennis) Holmes, and Susan (Paul) Collins, all of Thomaston; sons, Lamar Haygood and Randal Gene Carr, both of Thomaston; sister, Kathleen Blackmon of Thomaston; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, April 3, at 11 a.m. from Zion Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, from 10-11 a.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.

Gloria C. Taylor

Mrs. Gloria C. Taylor, age 78, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at her residence. Funeral services for Mrs. Taylor will be held on Friday, March 29, at 11:00 AM, in the chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral Home.  Rev. Hugh Smith, Jr. will officiate, and interment will follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday morning from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour.

Mrs. Taylor was born in Thomaston on January 10, 1946, to the late J. M. Calhoun and the late Myrtice Barron Calhoun Shumate.  She was a 1964 graduate of R. E. Lee Institute and had been employed by the Thomaston Mills Finishing Division Office. She was a deputy clerk of  the Upson County Magistrate Court  from 2001 until her retirement in 2016.  Mrs. Taylor was a member of the Thomaston First Assembly of God Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her husband, Danny Lewis Taylor, and her step father, W. J. Shumate.

Shumate.  She is survived by two daughters: Shay (Ricky) English and Sloan (Tim) Ledbetter, both of Thomaston; a son, Slate Taylor (Scott Barnett) of Atlanta; a sister: Pam (Duane) Kellett, of Thomaston; four grandchildren: Ellie English, Jules Passmore, Landry English, and Sophie Barnett; a sister-in-law: Joan Matthews of Thomaston; and a brother-in-law, Mark (Fran) Taylor of Carrollton. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Debra Annette Turner Johnston

Debra Annette Turner Johnston, age 65, of Thomaston, passed away March 25, 2024, at Upson Regional Medical Center.  Debra grew up in Griffin, daughter of the late Hoke and Margaret Turner.  She worked in several local textile mills for 30 years, including Thomaston Mills and William Carter Company. She liked to sew and crochet. Debra was also a homemaker and enjoyed living a simple life spending time with her family, children, and grandchildren.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her boyfriend of 20 years, Wayne Blackmon, son, Joey Delzell, sisters and brothers, Sandra, Dale, David, Darlene and Robert.

 

She is survived by her sons: Robert Delzell of TN, and Chuck Delzell (Mirasol) of Thomaston. Wayne’s children: Alan Blackmon (Tonya), Jeanie Langford (Steve) and Misty Patrick (Aaron); grandchildren: Manuel, Michael, Christina,Trinity, seven more grandchildren, seven more great-grandchildren and seven of Wayne’s grandchildren and seven of his great-grandchildren; twin brother: Donny Turner (Kim); and several nieces and nephews.

 

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home.

Cynthia Kinsey Tidwell,

Mrs. Cynthia Kinsey Tidwell, age 65, of Griffin, passed away March 24, 2024, at Eternal Hope Hospice.  She grew up in Barnesville, daughter of the late Dewey William Kinsey and Katherine Janelle Lumpkin Kinsey. Cynthia earned her LPN certificate from Griffin Technical College and then her RN degree from Gordon College in 1990.  She was the County Nurse for Spalding County for 30 years. She was very active in her community and served on many local boards including the Spalding Collaborative, the Hospital Authority, and Spalding County Board of Health. Cynthia was a member of the Zebulon Methodist Church and served on the Pastor/Staff-Parish Relations Committee. She enjoyed cooking and spending time with her grandson. Although she was retired, she never stopped helping people. If you knew Cynthia, you knew what it is like to be loved.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years: John W. Tidwell; daughter and son-in-law: Heather and Drew Pickett of Griffin; grandson:  Grayson Pickett; sisters and brothers-in-law: Anita and Kenny Smith of Barnesville and Sharon and Mark Kempson of Hollonville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Thomas and Laura Tidwell of Griffin; numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with Pastor Arianna Eberle and Mr. James Mauldin officiating. Burial will follow in the Zebulon Methodist Church Cemetery.

Mr. James "Jim" Monroe Majors, age 85, of Thomaston, died Monday, March 25, 2024, at his residence.

Mr. Majors was born on October 7, 1938, in Edison, Georgia, to the late T.A. Majors Jr. and to the late Ruby Carreker Majors.  He served his country in the U.S. Marines, was a business owner in advertising and was a member of the Thomaston First Presbyterian Church.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, William Majors, Harry Majors, Jack Majors, sisters, Helen Majors Brand, Virginia Majors Brand, and Ruby Jane Majors Bush.

Survivors include his wife, Johnnie Patricia Beeland Majors of Thomaston, daughters, Mitzi Kallio of Thomaston, Mimi (Stacy Harris) Majors of Wake Forest, NC, Mia (Steve) Mackey of Thomaston, grandchildren, Natalie (Cody) Smith, Caitlyn (Trivon Thompson) Kallio, Jacqueline (Chris Hartgrove) Wyatt, Madeline (Thomas Owenby) Wyatt, Cara Mackey, Katherine (Matt Tome) Washburn, James Alex Mackey, great-grandchildren, Kaedan, Emma-Leigh, Raegan, Kennedy, Harvin, Arthur, Gryffin, Amelia, Teddy (Monroe).

Ellen Faye Martin Lawrence

Ellen Faye Martin Lawrence, age 73, of Williamson, passed away March 20, 2024, at her home. She grew up in the Covington and Stone Mountain areas, daughter of the late James Marvin Martin and Juanita Cook Martin.  She was a Waffle House manager for many years and then worked at Best Manufacturing in Thomaston for 30+ years before retiring.  Faye loved people and was always trying to help others.  She was a faithful volunteer at the Molena Outreach Center, an avid reader and enjoyed fishing.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Andy and Eddie.

 

She is survived by her daughter: Monica Faye Holman (Matthew) of TX; grandchildren: Alexander Sky (Alana) and Nathaniel Greyeyes (Maria) all of TX; great-granddaughter: Lenora Faye; sisters and brothers: Sylvia Miller of TX, Warren Martin (Brenda) of Covington, Joey Martin of Monticello, Leigh Owens of Covington, Jack Martin (Carol) of Greensboro, and Jackie Tucker of GA; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; additional family: Terri and Billy Scott and Douglas Swartz all of Williamson; and her beloved dog: Margo.

 

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 29, 2024, at Faye’s home.

Mr. Terry Gene Custer, age 64, of Williamson, passed away March 19, 2024, at his home.  He was born in New Waterford, Ohio, son of the late Roy Custer and Elaine Bowker Custer.  Terry grew up in the Lakewood area of Atlanta.  He was a mechanic, electrician, and a jack-of-all-trades.  For many years, Terry worked at Riverdale Radiator. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was a fun-loving guy who told great stories and loved people. Terry had lots of friends and was a huge flirt.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Smallwood Custer, his identical twin brother, Larry and his sister, Karen.

 

He is survived by his children: Crystal Chappell (Jason), Aubrey Terri Jean Custer, and Tony Mobley; grandchildren: Trevor, Trenton, Jaynie, Layla, Braylen, Liam, Cambrie, Brody and Summer; sisters: Brenda, Melody (Primo), Lori (Danny), Dana (John); many nieces and nephews.

Rickey Earl Harp

Mr. Rickey Earl Harp, age 65, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Atrium Health Navicent, Macon, GA.  Funeral services for Mr. Harp will beheld Sunday, March 24, at 2:00 PM at Faith Baptist Church with Rev. Buddy Wall officiating.  Interment will follow in The Rock Church Cemetery.  

The family will receive friends Saturday evening, March 23, from 5:00 PM until7:00 PM at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home.

 

Mr. Harp was born in Thomaston on February 7, 1959, to Cecil Earl Harp and

Frances Elizabeth Suddeth Harp.  He was a 1977 graduate of Upson High School

and was retired from Tranthem Truck Lines.  He enjoyed working in the yard,

driving his tractor, and  he especially enjoyed family get-togethers.

 

He loved his fur babies, Max and Leroy.  Mr. Harp loved the Lord and  was a

member of Faith Baptist Church where he sang in the choir.

 

Mr. Harp was preceded in death by a niece, Cassie Caldwell, and a nephew,

Nathan Suggs.  He is survived by his wife, Robin Harp; a daughter, Kayla

Harp (Eric Waugh); a son, Stacy (Amy) Stevens; his parents, Cecil and

Frances Harp; two sisters: Nancy (Wade) Rooks and Barbara (Travis) Allison,

both of Barnesville; two grandchildren: Chelsy Stevens and Connor (Sandy)

Stevens; and a niece, Crystal Suggs.

Arlene “Earline” Faye Pennell Copeland

Mrs. Arlene “Earline” Faye Pennell Copeland, age 84, of Thomaston, passed away March 18, 2024.  She was born September 2, 1939, 1 of 13 children born to the late Hobson Lee Pennell and Dessie Marie Clanton Pennell.  Earline grew up in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina and moved to Florida as a teenager and then to Georgia.  She was a talented singer and often performed on the radio.  She was a homemaker and a wonderful cook.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard T. Copeland, Sr., daughter, Cindy Casto and eight brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her children: Lorrie O’Dell (Dennis Bourque) and Ty Copeland; grandchildren: Samantha, (Kevin) Sarah (Tyler), Benjie, Josh, Brandon (Sarah), Dillon (Kaley), and Devin; sisters and brothers: Bonnie Snow (Jack), Kathy Hunter, Kenny Pennell and Donnie Pennell; many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Matthew Shavers

Mr. Matthew "Phat Matt" Scott Shavers age 38 of Thomaston Ga, died Sunday March 17, 2024, at his residence. 

 

Matthew was born on August 30, 1985, in Thomaston, Georgia, to Floyd Scott Shavers, and Angie Lynn Hemby Crider.  He worked for Quality Trucking in Barnesville.  

 

Survivors include his parents, Angie (Tim Hammond) Crider, Scott (Valerie) Shavers, brother, James Dale Shavers, sister, Jessica (Dillon Shaw) Marie Russell, Alex (Jacob) Caldwell, nieces, Cara Trusty, Charlotte Caldwell, and Lauren Caldwell.

 

The family will have a memorial service at a later date.

Mr. John Travis Johnson age 82 of Roberts Ga, died Sunday March 17, 2024, at Providence Health and Rehab. 

Mr. Johnson was born on July 9, 1941, in Hawkinsville, Georgia, to the late Andrew Harrison Johnson and to the late Maimie Bell Smith Johnson.  He owned and operated Johnson Trucking.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Andrew Johnson.

 

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Burns Johnson of Roberta, daughters, Debra Hutchinson of Milledgeville, Donna Dodgen of Roberta, son, Johns Christopher of Johnson of Mississippi, sister, Carol (Boots) Carter Atlanta, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

 

Mr. Johnson was cremated, and no services are planned at this time.

Ruth Miller Bettis

Mrs. Ruth Miller Bettis age 90 died Friday March 15, 2024 at Brightmoor Nursing Center.

 

Mrs. Bettis was born on May 5, 1933 in Thomaston Ga, to the late George H. Miller and the late Ruth Westmoreland Miller. She worked in accounts payable for many years and was a member of Antioch Methodist Church. Mrs. Bettis was a sweet loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Tommy A. Bettis and daughter Carla Bettis Boster.

 

Survivors include her daughters Mrs. Marla Bettis (Jeff) Wiles of Kennesaw Ga, Mrs. Wanda Bettis (Phil) Moore of Newnan Ga, Ms. Seleta Bettis Champagne of Jackson Ga, brother Mr. John (Sandi) Miller of Thomaston Ga, 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren.

Marilyn L. Dickerson

Ms. Marilyn L. Dickerson, age 75, of Thomaston, died Saturday, March 16, 2024, at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin.

 

A funeral service for Ms. Dickerson will be held on Tuesday, March 19, at

4:00 PM, in the chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Rev. Bryan McPherson

and Rev. Ted Kandler will officiate, and interment will follow in South View

Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 PM prior to

the service at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home.

 

Ms. Dickerson was born on November 7, 1948, in Macon, the only child of the

late Joseph Edward Dickerson and the late Lorena Spillers Dickerson. She

attained her master's degree, and she served as a media specialist with the

Thomaston-Upson Board of Education for 30 years until her retirement in

2000. She was active in Relay for Life for many years and Thomaston-Upson

Retired Educators where she had served as treasurer. Ms. Dickerson was a

member of Thomaston First Baptist Church where she was involved with WMU and

was a member of The Gleaners Sunday School class.

 

Ms. Dickerson is survived by her cousins, Gwen (Wesley) Brown, Susan (Tommy)

Parham, Evelyn Tomberlin, Lynn (Bill) Shaver, Dr. Johnny (Lachelle) Brown,

Philip (Lynn) Fallin, Kristi (Jeff) Rabon, Sherri (Bo) Sims, Al (Rhonda)

Curry, Sharon (Mark) Hopkins, and Kim (David) Millen; and her special

friends, Jimmie Stout, Hugh Mangham, and Brenda Showferty. Also surviving

are many extended family.

 

In addition to her parents, Ms. Dickerson was preceded in death by her

cousins, Phyllis (Melvin) Fallin and Albert Curry.

Michael Norman "Mike" Bridges

Mr. Michael Norman "Mike" Bridges age 63 of Thomaston Ga, died Thursday March 14, 2024 at his residence. 

Mr. Bridges was born on September 14, 1960 in Thomaston Ga, to the late James Bridges and the late Dorothy Crook Bridges. He worked for Quad Graphics as a Pressman for 30 years and later worked for 1888 Mill as a Firewatch. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers James Gary Bridges & Jimmy Howard Bridges.

 

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Terri Argo Bridges of Thomaston Ga, daughter Mrs. Courtney (Nicholas) Wall of Yatesville Ga, son Mr. Cody (Dee) Bridges of Thomaston Ga, sister Mrs. Donna (Bill) Cochran of Perry Ga, grandchild Austyn Faith Bridges of Thomaston Ga.

Mather Carroll McDuffie

Mr. Mather Carroll McDuffie, age 87, of Thomaston, died Thursday, March 14, 2024 at Riverside Health and Rehab. 

Mr. McDuffie was born on May 18, 1936 in Milan Ga, to the late Mather McDuffie and the late Mary Ellington. He worked as a shift foreman for B.F. Goodrich Mill for many years. He loved country music.

 

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Madge Cone McDuffie of Thomaston Ga, daughter Mrs. Regina (Neal) Thompson of Thomaston Ga, son Mr. Craig (Kathy) McDuffie of Lagrange Ga, 3 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren.

Robert “Bob” Hardy Bedingfield

Mr. Robert “Bob” Hardy Bedingfield, age 87, of Locust Grove, passed away March 12, 2024.  He grew up in the Cabbagetown area of Atlanta, the oldest of four boys born to the late Troy Hardy Bedingfield and Irene Parks Bedingfield. His family moved to Jonesboro in 1952 and Bob graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1955. He served in the National Guard then in the US Airforce for several years.  

 

He worked at Delta Airlines for 30+ years, retiring as a Lead in the International Freight department. He was also bailiff at the Clayton County Courthouse and a security officer at Kmart on Cleveland Avenue in Atlanta.

 

Bob loved all sports and was very athletic. In high school he lettered in four sports and in pole vaulting. A school record he still holds today. For years he played travel slow-pitch softball for Delta Airlines and Specialty Engraving and on the recreation teams in Clayton and Henry Counties. Bob was also a member of the Delta Airlines BBQ team, and a 32nd degree Mason, past Master, and member of Jonesboro Masonic Lodge #87. 

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Louisa Malcom Bedingfield, brothers Ronald and Charles and wife Jean, and nephews, Mark and Andy.

 

He is survived by his daughters: Lisa Jackson (Darrell) of Williamson and Laura B. Whisenant (Butch) of Lake Hartwell; grandchildren: Danny Jackson (Stefanie), Dylan Jackson (Hayley), Robert Clayton Whisenant, and Kyle Whisenant; great-grandchildren: Danny J. Jackson, Dustin Jackson, Dominik Jackson and McKenzie Davis; nieces and nephew: Ronnie, Rhonda, Nicole and Cheryl. Brother Thomas (Sandra) Bedingfield; and sister-in-law: Elieen Bedingfield.

David Michael Brazier

Mr. David Michael Brazier, age 76, of Carnesville, GA, passed away March 14, 2024.  He was born in Washington, DC, son of the late William Earle Brazier and Mary Whiten Brazier. David was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. He worked in the IT department at Georgia Pacific for 15 years and Allstate Insurance Company for 8+ years.  He was a world traveler.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Emily and Kyle Plavcan; grandchildren: Sawyer and Rhett Plavcan; special friend: Deborah Kelley.

 

Friends may visit the family on Sunday, March 17, 2024, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Ronald Allen Carter, age 53 of Thomaston, died Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at his residence.

Claire Noell Culverhouse

Mrs. Claire Noell Culverhouse, age 94, of Columbus, GA, died Saturday, March

9, 2024, at Brookdale Senior Living  Columbus.  Graveside funeral services

for Mrs. Culverhouse will be held Sunday, March 17, at 2:00 PM, at The Rock

Methodist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the cemetery

following the service.

 

Mrs. Culverhouse was born at The Rock, GA, on October 15, 1929, to the late

James Albion Noell and the late Gladys Boyt Noell.  She was a 1947 graduate

of R. E. Lee Institute, and she was retired from Burdine's Department Store

where she was a warehouse manager.  Mrs. Culverhouse enjoyed crafts and

puzzles.  She was a member of Britt David Baptist Church.

 

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Culverhouse was preceded in death by her

husband, George B. "Jack" Culverhouse, Jr. and  three sisters: Hilda

Moulton, Jean Warren, and Faye Chambers.  She is survived by two sons:

George  (Maureen) Culverhouse of Pine Mountain, GA, and Joe (Samantha)

Culverhouse of Warner Robins, GA; seven grandchildren, and ten great

grandchildren.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Stephen Dean “Dennis” Buice, Sr

Mr. Stephen Dean “Dennis” Buice, Sr., age 64, of Flovilla, passed away March 11, 2024.  He grew up in Atlanta, son of the late Charles Walter Buice and Joyce Yvonne Johnson Buice.  Dennis was a professional painter.  He enjoyed fishing, playing pool, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was the most patient, kind, caring and giving person you could have ever met.  He showed his children the meaning of unconditional love.  He was their hero. 

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and a sister, Benny Buice, Bonnie Caillas, and Geneva Schmidt.

 

He is survived by his wife:  Deborah Buice; children: Joyce Buice, Amanda Buice (Paige James), Nichole Buice Cruce (J.D.), Stephen Buice, Jr. and Dennis Buice (Haley); grandchildren: Kayson Buice, Larissa Bassett, Kevin Buice, Perry Buice, Isabella Buice, Morgan Buice, Jason Davis, Ella Gardner, Eden Gardner and Emilee Gardner; great-grandson: Nathan Bassett; brother: Lee Buice; several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home.

Jerry Wayne Brown

Mr. Jerry Wayne Brown, age 80, of Thomaston, died Sunday, March 10, 2024, at his residence in Thomaston.

Mr. Brown was born on February 2, 1944, in Upson County, Georgia to the late Marvin Lee Brown, and the late Jewell Inez Brown.  He was self-employed as a painter.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his, brothers, Burt, Earl and Junior Brown, sisters, Geraldine Watson, Dorothy Buchanan, and Barbara Jean Lopez.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Bowden Brown of Thomaston, daughters, Stacey Michelle (Jeff Rowland) Brown of Byron, Kristina "Brooke" Brown of Thomaston, son Christopher (Johnel) Brown of Perry, and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Crystal Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 14, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.

Sarah Elizabeth Connell Williams

Ms. Sarah Elizabeth Connell Williams, age 83, of Woodbury, passed away March 9, 2024.  She grew up in the Concord and Molena area, daughter of the late Hoyt Bennett Connell and Elizabeth Scoggins Connell. One of her fondest memories as a young girl was when she won a biscuit making contest and was awarded a Coca Cola by the Governor. Sarah worked hard her whole life. When she was 15, she worked at the five-in-dime on the courthouse square in Zebulon.  Later in life, she worked at Dundee Mills in Griffin. Sarah enjoyed fishing, cooking, and gardening.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Jackie Smith and Tim Manley, her sister and brother-in-law: Judy and Danny Riggins, brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Brenda Connell, her son-in-law, Toby Herndon.

 

She is survived by her children: Sarah Jill Herndon of Orchard Hill, Charles Hoyt Manley (Georgia), of Griffin, Sammy E. Manley (Connie) of Warm Springs, and Bobby Manley (Ginger) of Griffin; daughter-in-law: Cathy Manley of Manchester; step-children: Buster Manley (Sherry) of Zebulon, Deborah Perdue (Stan) of Griffin, and Barbara Bennett (Johnny) of Griffin; sister: Shirley Hatchett (Buddy) of Griffin; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Neal Baptist Church Cemetery in Concord.

Sherri Broach Brock

Mrs. Sherri Broach Brock, age 61, of Orchard Hill, passed away March 8, 2024, at her home.  She was born in Ohio and grew up in West Palm Beach and Loxahatchee, Florida, daughter of the late Harold Broach and Nora Alene Wilbanks Broach.  In 1994, she and her husband made their home in Orchard Hill.  She was a was a homemaker who could do anything. She was a seamstress, an upholsterer, electrician, and mechanic.  She was a patient teacher to her children, a fierce protector, and the backbone of her family who she dearly loved.  She was a lover of the sun, music, and people and always wanted to help others.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Johnny Broach, nephew, Brian Broach, son-in-law, Michael Carter, brothers-in-law, John Brock, and Jefferson Brock.

 

She was a devoted wife to the love of her life for 44 years: James Karl Brock. She was a dedicated and proud Mama to her children:  April Brock Carter, Jamie Brock (Brandy) and Garrett Brock; grandchildren:  Kaitlyn Brock, Olivia Carter, Sherri Brock, Morgan Brock, and Nora Brock, Kameron Brock, Christopher Brock, and Kinsley Brock; brothers and a sister:  Harold Broach (Arlene), Dwayne Broach and Tammie Bills (Dorian); and several nieces and nephews. She also found a lot of joy from her loyal companion: Lil Doo.  

 

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home.

Annette Partridge Trice

Mrs. Annette Partridge Trice, age 85, of Thomaston, died Thursday, March 7,

2024, at Eternal Hope Hospice in Griffin, GA.  Memorial services for Mrs.Trice will be held Mondy, March 11, at 11:00 AM, in the chapel ofFletcher-Day Funeral Home with Rev. Chet Yates officiating.  The family willreceive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home on Monday from 10:00 AM untilthe funeral hour.


Mrs. Trice was born in Upson County on March 16, 1938, to the late Alcie C.Partridge and the late Johnnie McFarlin Partridge.  She was a retiredgrocery cashier, having worked for many years at Big Apple and Giant MartSupermarkets.  She had also been a bus driver for the Thomaston-Upson SchoolSystem.  Mrs. Trice was a member of First Baptist Church of Thomaston.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Trice was preceded in death by her husband,H. Edwin Trice, and a sister, Barbara Rogers.


Survivors are  two nephews, Jeff (April) Rogers and Jimmy Rogers, a niece,June Vermeer, and many great nieces and nephews.

Richard Leon Garrett

Mr. Richard Leon Garrett, age 83, of Thomaston, died Friday, March 8, 2024, at his residence.

Mr. Garrett was born on March 31, 1941, in Upson County, Georgia, to the late Johnny Garrett, and the late Beatrice Jackson Whiteside.  He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis, then went on to work for William Carter Company for 35 years as a truck driver.  He was of the Baptist Faith.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Carol Slay Garrett, and brother, Gene Garrett.


Survivors include his sons, Derick Garrett of Thomaston, Clint (Kim Hutto) Garrett of Thomaston, and grandchildren, Hunter Austin Garrett, Jakob Todd Garrett, and Sadie Carol-Lynn Garrett.


Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Southview Cemetery.  The family will receive friend on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, from 1:00 p.m.- 2:00 p.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.  

James "Pete" Edward Peterman

Mr. James "Pete" Edward Peterman, age 89, of Macon, formerly of Thomaston, died Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Piedmont North Hospital in Macon.'

Mr. Peterman was born on May 18, 1934, in Thomaston, Georgia, to the late Earl Peterman, and to the late Lorena Hudson Peterman.  He served his country in the U.S. Navy.  He then worked as a sales manager at Pittney Bowes and he was a member of Forrest Hills United Methodist Church.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Bernard Peterman.

Survivors include his wife Judy Lynn Evans Peterman of Macon, daughters, Christi (Richard Harris) Peterman of Griffin, Robin Lynn Wilson (Paul) Larson of Menomonee Falls, WI, son, James Gregg (Elena G.) Peterman of Lexington, SC, grandchildren, Brandi Henderson, Reece (Natasha) Daniel, Vanessa (Brandon) Bell, Natalie Peterman, Drew Larson, great-grandchildren, Helen, Thomas, Nora.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Hills Church, 1217 Forest Hill Rd, Macon GA 31210.  The family receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
