Mrs. Betty Jean Maynard, age 89, of Thomaston, died Saturday afternoon, November 26, 2022, at her residence. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 29, at 11:00 AM, in theUpson Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Jason Weems officiating.The family will receive friends Tuesday morning, from 10:00 AM until 11:00AM at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Mrs. Maynard was born on June 21, 1933, a daughter of the late Guston Elrodand the late Mary Weaver Elrod. She was a 1950 graduate of R.E. LeeInstitute and she was a homemaker. After marrying W.T. Maynard in 1952, shefollowed him around the world as he pursued a career with the U.S. Navy.After retiring, they returned to Thomaston. Betty was active in the ThurstonCommunity and several civic organizations. She loved crafts, sewing, andtaking care of her family. She attended Hendricks Baptist Church. Mrs. Maynard is survived by her daughter, Diane Ryals of Thomaston; hergrandchildren, Daryll Ryals, Chris (Tammy) Ryals, Kevin (Julie) Ryals,Dakota (Kaleb Stewart) Boyd, and Matthew (Sarah) Alvarado, her greatgrandchildren, Katie (Chris Brown) Ryals, Alexis Ryals, Hannah Ryals, GageRyals, Elizabeth Ryals, Sydney McGouirk, Olivia McGouirk, and Walker Ryals,and her sister-in-law, Betty Elrod. Several nieces and nephews also survive.In addition to her parents, Mrs. Maynard was preceded in death by herhusband, W.T. Maynard, her daughter, Donlea Ryals, her sister, LouiseBowles, her brothers, Paul Elrod, Don Elrod, and Johnie Elrod, her grandson,Daniel Salter, and her great granddaughter, Krislin Ryals.
