Mrs. Judy Phillips, age 74, of Milner, passed away July 31, 2022, at her residence.

Jason Shane Towery, age 49, of Meansville, passed away July 30, 2022, at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Jason was born on October 6, 1972, in Thomaston. He was a expert welder and formerly worked at Southside Steel.

Survivors include his mother, Claudette Young; children, Hank Towery and Denise Towery; brothers, Johnny Towery and Jim (Vicky) Towery; sisters, Lorice Barber, Marcia Pyle, and Rhonda Gunn; grandchildren, Marley Ramirez and Luca Harris Towery; caregiver, Nicole Wheeler; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at 3 PM, in in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home. Friends may visit the family on Wednesday from 2-3 PM, at the funeral home.

Wayne Louis Burkett

Mr. Wayne Louis Burkett, age 76, of Concord, passed away July 23, 2022, at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. He was born in Amityville, New York to William St. John Burkett and Josephine Cerny Burkett and grew up in Farmingdale, New York. Wayne worked in the IT department for William Carter Company in Needham, Massachusetts, and transferred to Georgia where he retired after 45+ years.

Wayne was a 50+ year Mason and a member of the Norfolk Lodge in Needham and Meridian Sun Lodge #26 in Griffin, Georgia. He also attended Montgomery Lodge #31 in Zebulon.  Wayne was an active member of several other Masonic organizations, including Order of the Eastern Star, York Rite, and Scottish Rite.

 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years:  Gayle Mittelsteadt Burkett, whom he met in kindergarten.

 

He is survived by his children:  Edward W. Burkett (Sharon) of Framingham, Massachusetts, and Janice Burkett Davis of East Bethel, Minnesota; grandchildren:  Eleanor, Natalie, and Theodore Burkett of Framingham, MA and Amanda, Brett, and Christian Davis of East Bethel, MN; brother: William E. Burkett (Jaye); nephew: William G. Burkett (Bobbi Jean) of South Hadley, Massachusetts, and daughter Callie; niece: Sandra B. Coughlin (Bryan) and children Liam and Louisa; and many cousins.

 

A Celebration of Life service is being planned.

Wayne Dexter Stewart

Mr. Wayne Dexter Stewart, age 66, of The Rock, died on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at his residence.

Mr. Stewart was born October 14. 1955 in Upson County, to the late Robert Stewart and the late Mary Corley Stewart.  He worked for Aldora Mills as a twister mechanic for 28 years and was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, David Stewart.

Survivors include his sons, Jonathan (Katherine) Stewart of Zebulon, Andy Stewart of Pike County, sister, Jean (Pete) Callahan of Thomaston.

 

The family will receive friends on Monday August 1, 2022, from 5:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.

Brent Alan Rhodes

Mr. Brent Alan Rhodes, age 67, of Griffin, passed away July 28, 2022, at Spalding Regional Hospital.

Brent was born on January 10, 1955, in Bellefontaine, OH, son of the late James Arthur Rhodes and the late Mary Lucille Glaze Rhodes. He enjoyed photography and all living things. He volunteered his time with Rushton's Hope and was active at Oak Hill Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley E. Rhodes; brother James "Rodi" Rhodes; two infant children, Elizabeth and Jacob.

Survivors include his son, Brandon Rhodes; brother and sister in law, John and Darla Rhodes.

Mrs. Carolyn Jean Cochran Truitt Suggs, 65, of Thomaston, died Thursday, July 28, 2022, at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital.  Funeral services for Mrs. Suggs will be held Sunday, July 31, at 3:00 PM, at Valley Grove Baptist Church.  Interment will follow in South View Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from 2:00 PM until the funeral hour.

Randall U. Harris Jr.

Randall U. Harris Jr. passed away peacefully on July 28, 2022, surrounded by family as he entered into God's Heavenly Kingdom.

 

Randy was born on September 7, 1948, in Taylor County, GA.  He was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War.  He worked as a general contractor most of his life and helped to build many homes in Griffin and Thomaston.  He was a good man, a family man who doted on his family and was extremely proud of them.  He was also a God-fearing faithful man who was a devoted member of Mountain View Baptist Church.  He was an inspiration to all who knew him.

 

Randy is survived by his wife of 37 years, Rebecca "Becky" Harris, children, Randall U. (Tiffany) Harris III, Michael Clint Harris, Natalie Rose Harris, Jason Lee (Lisa) Arnold, Ricky Lynn Arnold, and William Tony Mullis, brother, William "Billy" (Robby) Harris, grandchildren, Gavin, Tyler, Ted, Jaxon, Mathew, Hannah, Christopher, Cheyenne, Caleb, Trey, and one great-grandchild.  Randy is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Vickie Nelson, and brother, Joey Harris.  Randy was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, friend, and neighbor.  He was loved by many and will be missed by all.

 

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. from Mountain View Baptist Church.  Burial will follow at Crystal Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday August 2, 2022, from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.

Mr. Terry L. McDevitt

Mr. Terry L. McDevitt, age 76, of Zebulon, passed away July 27, 2022.

Mr. McDevitt was born on May 27, 1946, to the late Russell and Minnie McDevitt. He grew up in Erie, PA and, as a young man, joined the United States Army. He served in Vietnam during the war as a helicopter mechanic. Mr. McDevitt s
pent thirty years working in a foundry and then another thirty years as a tree surgeon.

Mr. McDevitt is survived by his wife: Trudy McDevitt of Zebulon, children: Terry L. (Thess) Ross of Texas, Kevin (Rebecca) Malone of Pennsylvania and Rachel (Nick) Bruce of Griffin; brother: Joe McDevitt of Virginia Beach, VA; sister: Brenda Ives of Erie, PA; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Terri Lynn Poole

Terri Lynn Poole, age 61, of Thomaston, passed away July 25, 2022.

Terri was born in Fairbanks, Alaska on September 2, 1960, to the late William George Poole Jr. and the late Barbara Ann Keffer Poole.

Terri was a longtime resident of Thomaston, Georgia. She loved reading and was a devout student of the Bible. Terri was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses for over 46 years. She loved animals and watching nature programs on television. Terri enjoyed playing card games. She was a proud member of “the old folks table,” which met regularly at The Pie for pizza and card games. Terri will be remembered as a sweet lady with the kindest soul.

Along with her parents, Terri was preceded in death by her brother Brian K. Poole. She is survived by her brothers: Gary Lee Poole and Gregory Poole, both of Thomaston; aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who will dearly miss her.

Mr. Christopher Drew Bauch

Mr. Christopher Drew Bauch, age 33, of Molena, passed away July 20, 2022. Drew was a veteran of the United States Air Force stationed at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, TX, where he was a mechanic working on the B-1 Bombers.  Drew was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Molena. He never met a stranger and liked the outdoors, hunting and fishing and especially enjoyed watching the Georgia Bulldogs and NASCAR.

Drew was preceded in death by his grandparents, Horace Ted Denney, and Jim Bauch, and an uncle, Frank M. Barron III.

He is survived by his wife: Marie Bauch; children: Colton Drew Bauch, Braelynn Marie Bauch and Hunter Jake Bauch; mother: Robin Mann; father:  Alexander (Alex) Bauch; brothers and a sister: Jacob Mann, William Mann and Hayley Bauch; grandparents: Frank and Linda Barron, and Carol Foster; niece: Sophia; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Friends may visit the family on Saturday, August 6, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 1177 Hwy. 109, Molena.  

A memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m., at the church with Pastor Mark Harris officiating.

Ms. Tina Cleveland


Ms. Tina Cleveland age 49 of Thomaston Ga, passed away Saturday July 23, 2022 at her residence. 

Ms. Cleveland was born on October 6, 1972 in Reynolds Ga, to Carl Cleveland and Fannie Simmons Cleveland. She was a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church where she taught Children's Sunday School classes for many years. Ms. Cleveland loved working with kids and loved her Lord, family, and animals.

Survivors include her parents Mr. Carl (Fannie) Cleveland of Thomaston Ga, sisters Mrs. Darlene (Stan) Johnson of Thomaston Ga, Mrs. Carlene (Kel) Anderson of Thomaston Ga, Mrs. Marie (Adam) Keadle of Thomaston Ga, Wanda (Craig) Sanders, Michele (Hugh) Shepard, nieces and nephews Chase (Jessica) Johnson, Jacob (Erica) Keadle, Brooke (Alex) Oglesby, Melissa (Dusty) Poteat, Dalton (Kimberly) Elder, great nephews Brantley, Bentley, Brentson.

Mrs. Katherine Salter

Mrs. Katherine Lee Williams Salter age 79 of Thomaston Ga, passed away Friday July 22, 2022 at Sunny Grove Assisted Living. 

Mrs. Salter was born on December 4, 1942 in Thomaston Ga, to the late Edgar Williams and the late Katherine White Williams. She was employed with Dr. Bramlett & Dr. Warnock as an LPN for many years. Mrs. Salter was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church and was a faithful servant of the Lord. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Billie Salter. She loved her family especially her two great grandchildren Jake & Kate Gassett.

Survivors include her son Mr. Ray (Mary) Gassett of Thomaston Ga, brothers Mr. Johnny (Kathy) Lamar Williams of Thomaston Ga, Mr. Ricky Williams of Jackson Ga, sister Mrs. Wanda Jean Burt of Thomaston Ga, grandson Mr. Jason (Anna) Gassett of Thomaston Ga, great grandchildren Jake Gassett & Kate Gassett of Thomaston Ga.

Mr. Stephen David Hill

Mr. Stephen David Hill, age 87, of Zebulon, passed away July 22, 2022, at his home. David grew up in West Virginia. He was a 20-year veteran of the United States Military serving in the Army Infantry. He was an Armor Intelligence Specialist in Vietnam.  David retired from the military in 1972 and worked for several lumber companies. David taught ROTC at Hapeville High School, and enjoyed fishing and hiking.

He is survived by his wife of 45+ years; Frances Hill; children and their spouses: Michael and Rose Hill of San Francisco, CA, Michelle Hill of Zebulon, Stephen and Mary Anne Hill of Social Circle, and Andrew and Olivia Hill of Milledgeville; sisters and a brother:  Sylvia Maddox and husband Calvin of Augusta, Homer Hill of Beaver, WV and Lucy Hackney of Shady Springs, WV; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

 

A memorial service will be held at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville.

Mrs. Joann Estes Allgood, age 87, of Molena, passed away July 21, 2022.  She was born February 3, 1935, daughter of the late Albert and Mattie Estes. Mrs. Allgood attended North Clayton High school where she excelled in basketball. She lived in Fayette County for 30 years, moved to Colorado and lived there for a few years before moving to Molena in 1996.  She enjoyed traveling with her husband Don, and friends, camping, snow skiing and trips to Alaska fishing. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and frequented Smyrna Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her youngest son, Jon Allgood, brother, Hugh and sister, Eloise.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years: Don Allgood; children and their spouses: Derrick and Kathy Allgood, Bryan Allgood, Eric and Robin Allgood, Carol and Mike Johnson, and Randy and Marsha Allgood; sisters: Margie and Brenda; 14 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit the family on Saturday, July 23, 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., at the funeral home.  Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with Brother Geoffrey Zimbelman officiating.

Burial will be held at Sherwood Memorial Park in Jonesboro.

Mr. John Henry Toms

Mr. John Henry Toms, age 74, of The Rock, died Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation.  

Mr. Toms was born on September 8, 1948, in McCook Nebraska, to the late William Thomas Toms and the late Zelphia Marie Harrison Bradley.  He is preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his sister-in-law, Dorothy Toms of The Rock, sisters, Emily Shoemake of Antioch, TN., Jennie Toms of Clarksville, TN, and several nieces and nephews. 

It was Mr. Toms wishes to be cremated and no services are planned at this time.

Mr. James Taylor Matthews, age 88, of Thomaston, died Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Harborview Nursing Home. 

Mr. Matthews was born on October 27, 1933, in Upson County, to the late Will Matthews and the late Mary Louise Hayes Coleman.  He retired from B.F Goodrich as a quill stripper and was of the Baptist Faith.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Billy Matthews, and sister, Mary Jameson.

 

Survivors include his daughters, Jane (Terri) Matthews of Thomaston, Kay (Keith) Standard of Thomaston, several nieces and nephews, and Savannah the Cat.

 

Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 22, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. from Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 22, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Catherine Blount Matthews

Mrs. Catherine Blount Matthews, 81 of Thomaston died July 17, 2022, at Upson Regional Medical Center. 

Mrs. Matthews was born on June 5, 1941, in Thomaston, to the late Roger Lawson Blount and the late Hattie Johnson Blount.  She worked for William Carter Company, Eckerd Drugs and was a babysitter in Thomaston for many years.  She was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Roland Matthews, brothers, Danny, JT and Troy Blount, sisters, Mary Nunley, and Francis Philpott.

Survivors include her daughters, Pam (Jerry) Boaen of Savannah, Penny (Raymond) Pittman of Thomaston, brothers, Sammy (Voncille) Blount of Thomaston, Bubba Blount of Twiggs County, GA, sisters, Brenda (Rev. L.R.) Brock of The Rock, Dot (Alfred) Shepard of Warner Robins, Betty Hilton of Thomaston, four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Juanita Wooley Driver

Mrs. Juanita Wooley Driver, age 83, of Thomaston, died Monday, July 18, 2022, at Upson Regional Hospital. 

Mrs. Driver was born on July 28, 1938, in Live Oak, Florida, to the late Oscar Wooley and the late Florence Tucker Wooley.  She worked for the Bank of Upson for 25 years and then went on to work as the Senior Vice President at West Central Georgia Bank where she later retired.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church for 60 plus years.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, LaNettye Daniel.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Donald Driver of Thomaston, daughter, Beth (Jerry) Piersall of Indianapolis, Indiana, son, Burt (Gaylynn) Driver of St. Petersburg, Florida, sisters, Elizabeth Wooley of Hoschton, GA., Doris Cromer of Carterville, GA., and grandchild, Jo Beth Lee of Long Beach, Mississippi.  


The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 21, 2022, at Coggins Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m.

Linda Dianne Ballew Evans

Mrs. Linda Dianne Ballew Evans, age 72, of Griffin, passed away July 15, 2022. She grew up in Griffin, daughter of the late Roy C. Ballew and Irene Nixon Ballew.  She worked as a cashier at a local convenient store, enjoyed playing games on her phone, and talking everyday with her daughter Kim.

In additional to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David Evans, her grandson Jonathan Lee Hazelrigs, and her brother, George Larry Ballew; her granddaughter-in-law, Patricia Strickland Hazelrigs.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Kim and Kenny Hazelrigs; grandsons: Jacob Hazelrigs and girlfriend Brandy Turner, and Jared Hazelrigs; great-granddaughter: Josie Hazelrigs; several nephews and nieces.

Mr. Joshua Neal Glaze

Mr. Joshua Neal Glaze, age 43, of Woodbury, passed away July 14, 2022.  Josh grew up in the Jonesboro, Riverdale and Lovejoy areas. He was so kind and a really nice guy. Josh enjoyed fishing, watching movies, reading, cooking, camping, and DIY projects.  He worked as a truck driver and in maintenance for many years.

Josh was preceded in death by his father, Tommy Glaze.

He is survived by his mother: Judy Glaze; brother and sister-in-law: Keith and Natty Glaze; niece: Katelyn Glaze; fiancé Shanae Densmore; and many cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, July 18, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home.

Mrs. Carol Frances Davis Randall

Mrs. Carol Frances Davis Randall, age 90, of Zebulon, passed away July 15, 2022, at her home. She was born in the Toccoa, Georgia area, daughter of the late Wimpy Samuel Davis and Mary Frances “Doll” Fricks Davis. Carol began her career at Rexall Drugs in Atlanta. She met and married Melvin Randall on May 14, 1961, and then became a homemaker. She returned to work at Hampton Elementary in the school cafeteria when her daughter, Nancy, started school. She worked there until her retirement. Carol was a long-time member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church in Hampton where she helped wherever there was a need. She was dedicated to learning and living out God’s truth. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. Carol enjoyed trips with friends and family, cooking, sewing, and crafting. As her eye-site began to fail, she started listening to preaching on CD and tapes.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Randall, her siblings: Clyde Davis, Ruby Davis Fricks, Hershel Davis, Leroy Cash and Edwin Davis.

She is survived by her daughter: Nancy Annette Goodman (Lee Goodman); grandchildren: Chris Goodman and Samantha Skidmore (Ronald Skidmore); great-grandchildren: McKaylee Goodman, Ryleigh Skidmore, Abbigail Skidmore and Maddison Skidmore; sister: Annette Davis Blackburn; and lots of extended family, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 18, at 1:00 p.m., in Liberty Hill Baptist Church, 2957 Mt. Carmel Road, Hampton. Mr. Darrell Johnson and Kelly DeJarnett will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Reatha Elaine Snider Feather, age 68, of Meansville, passed away July 11, 2022.  She was born in Summerville, GA, and grew up in the Piedmont Park and Little Five Points area in Atlanta. She was the daughter of the late Lloyd Snider and Gladys Scott. Reatha worked for Eastman Kodak in Chamblee for more than 15 years. She moved to the Thomaston area in 1995. Reatha was funny and liked to talk, laugh, make others laugh and take care of her family. She enjoyed eating Martha’s biscuits and gravy and pulling weeds. Reatha was always positive, touched so many lives, and had an amazing infectious laugh and a smile that would light up a room. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Feather, brothers, Billy Snider, Otto Evans and her sister, Linda Bennett.

She is survived by her pride and joy, her daughter: Angie Webb and husband Eric; great-granddaughter: Brooklyn; former husband and wife-in-law: Butch and Martha Bishop; sisters: Juanita Black and Marie Cofer; her grandpuppies: Diesel and Rio; many nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit the family on Friday, July 15, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 16, at 2 p.m., at her daughter’s home in Meansville.

MR. THOMAS RUBYN EUBANKS SR.

 Mr. Thomas Rubyn Eubanks, Sr., 92, of Thomaston, died Friday, July 8, 2022,

at Harborview Health Care.  Funeral services for Mr. Eubanks will be held onSunday, July 10, at 2:00 PM, at the East Thomaston Baptist Church.Interment will follow in South View Cemetery.  The family will receivefriends at the church Sunday afternoon from 1:00 until the service hour atthe church.  Fletcher-Day Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

 Mr. Hubert Lee Ralston, Jr., age 80, of Thomaston, died Thursday, July 7,
