MRS. KAREN ANN CARGILE

Mrs. Karen Ann Cargile, 71, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, May 30th, 2017 at her home.

Mrs. Cargile was born on April 7, 1946, in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, a daughter of the late Walter and Vera Grive. She had lived in Thomaston since 1992.


Mrs. Cargile was a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines for 23 years.


Mrs. Cargile is survived by her husband, Cecil A. Cargile; three step-sons, John Alden (Debbie) Cargile of Prattville, AL, Jeremy Hamilton (Sara) Cargile of Hereford, AZ, and Cecil Judson Cargile of Tucson, AZ; a sister, Barbara Bishop of Clearwater, FL; a step grandchild, Kendall (Melanie) Cargile of Prattville, AL; and a step-great grandchild, Peyton Cargile.


No services are planned at this time. Fletcher-Day Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

MR. STANLEY BYRON TEAL

Mr. Stanley Byron Teal, age 70, of Thomaston Ga, died Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at his residence. 

Mr. Teal was born in Upson County to the late William Frank and Elsie May Jackson Teal. He retired from the Home Depot Thomaston, was a member of Faith Baptist Church, and U.S. Navy Veteran serving in Vietnam.

He is survived by his wife, Dottie Teal of Thomaston; daughters, Faye (Shawn) Self, and Tiffany Teal both of Thomaston; sons, Jacob Teal, and Byron Teal Jr. both of Thomaston; sisters, Cheryl Hendrix of Meansville, and Marsha (Donald) Goodman of Thomaston; grandchildren, Haley Self, Gracie Self, Miles Self, Will Teal, Jesse Teal, Sierra Teal, and Bryonna Teal; and great-grandchild, Athena Teal. He is preceded in death by his brother, Keith Teal.

Funeral services for Mr. Teal will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 1, 2017 from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at Coggins Funeral Home.

MRS. FRANCES JUANITA WHEELESS

Mrs. Frances “Juanita” Wheeless, age 71, of Thomaston, died Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Harbor View Nursing Home.

Mrs. Wheeless was born September 30, 1945, in Upson County to the late George Francis and Elsie Rogers Gassett. She worked for Carters Mills in the sewing room and was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Frank L. Wheeless; daughters, Tonya (Tim) Ellis, Sonya (Mike) Birdsong, and Stacy Wheeless all of Thomaston; sisters, Lavelle (Warren) Killingsworth of Meansville, and Martha Joe Heaton of Thomaston; brothers, Tony (Jean) Gassett, and Donnie (Teresa) Gassett both of Thomaston; 6 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Wheeless will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 4:00 PM in the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 30 , 2017 from 2:00 - 4:00 PM at Coggins Funeral Home.

MRS. THELMA MAXINE WITHERELL SCHMITT

Mrs. Thelma Maxine Witherell Schmitt, age 85, of Thomaston, died Saturday, May 27, 2017, at her residence in Thomaston.

Mrs. Schmitt, was born April 26, 1932, in Kent County GA, to the late Raymond and Mary Hanson. She was a waitress.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Schmitt; and sister, Patricia Wall. Survivors are her daughters, Tammy Witherell of Gibsonton FL, Kathy Berry of Thomaston, and Donna Witherell of Madison WI; sons, Timothy Witherell of Florida, Terry Witherell of Michigan, and Eric Witherell of Brandon FL; sister, Mildred Witherell of Michigan, 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

A private memorial service for Mrs. Schmitt will be held later by her family.

MRS. SYLVIA M. TUCKER

Mrs. Sylvia M. Tucker, age 82, of Thomaston, died Saturday, May 27, 2017, at her residence.

Mrs. Tucker was born November 11, 1934 in Upson County to the late Aldine and Marion Helms. She worked for Thomaston Mills in the weave shop, and was a member of Northside Baptist Church. 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Willie B. Tucker; brother, Lamar Helms; and great-grandchild, Davis Tucker. Survivors are her daughter, Sherry Williams of Thomaston; son, Rick (Kathy) Tucker of Thomaston; sisters, Brenda Barfield, Elizabeth (Jerry) Hewitt, Pam (David) Boyt, and sister-in-law, Sylvia Helms all of Thomaston; brothers, Ted Helms of Atlanta, Fred Helms of Atlanta, Sammy (Janice) Helms of Thomaston, and Tim (Deana) Helms of Thomaston; 3 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Tucker will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Southview Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 30, from 12:00 - 2:00 PM at Coggins Funeral Home.

MR. KENNETH CLAYTON HOLLOWAY

Mr. Kenneth Clayton Holloway, age 53, of Thomaston, died Sunday, May 28, 2017, at the Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Holloway was born November 7, 1963, in Upson County to Jannie Holloway and the late Calvin J. Holloway. He was a member of Twin Oaks Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his father, Calvin J. Holloway. Survivors are his mother, Jannie Holloway; sisters, Katherine Williams of Holly Hill FL, Karen Holloway of Fayetteville GA, and Gwendolyn Holloway of Thomaston.

MRS. BRENDA JOYCE BARFIELD

Mrs. Brenda Joyce Barfield, age 67, of Thomaston, died Friday, May 26, 2017, at her residence.

Mrs. Barfield was born June 24, 1949, in Upson County to the late Albert Milwood and Betty Jean Gordy. She retired from BF Goodrich's Martha Mills HR department.

She is survived by her sons, Richard Wayne (Julie) Moore, and Michael Neil (Briana) Moore; and "Bonus Children", Amber Jade Barfield and Shane Neil (Lacey) Barfield, all of Thomaston; sister, Deborah Sue (Terry) Myles of Lake City FL; and 7 grandchildren. 

Graveside services for Mrs. Barfield will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2017, at 2:00 PM at Upson Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 27, 2017 from 1:00 - 2:00 PM at Coggins Funeral Home.

Mrs. Lynn Storey Dent, 60, of Thomaston, died Monday, May 22, 2017, at Upson Regional Medical Center. Memorial services will be held Friday, May 26, at 2:00 PM, at Mountain View Baptist Church. MRS. DEBRA CRAVEN FALLIN

Mrs. Debra Craven Fallin, age 60, of Molena GA, died Sunday, May 21, 2017, at her residence.

Mrs. Fallin was born on April 24, 1957, in Thomaston GA, to the late Hugh Thomas and Cora Lee Craven. She and her husband owned and operated R&D Fish Farm and deer cooler.

Survivors include her husband, Mr. Randy Fallin of Molena GA; daughter, Mrs. Laura (Ryan) Adams of Zebulon GA; sons, Mr. Joseph Kyle (Kristy) Legg of Thomaston GA, and Brandon Keith (Theresa) Legg of Griffin GA; sisters, Norma (Felton) Reeves of Thomaston, and Tonja (Romeo) Renaud of Talbotton GA; brothers, Steven (Barbara) Craven of Newnan GA, and Bob (Sharla) Craven of Thomaston; and 9 grandchildren.

MR. RAY MCCOY

Mr. Ray McCoy, age 76, of Thomaston, died Monday, May 15, 2017, at his residence.

Mr. McCoy was born on July 3, 1940 in Wrightsville Ga, to the late Johnnie and Ola McCoy. He was formerly employed with B.F. Goodrich Mills where he worked in the weave shop for many years. Mr. McCoy served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Elaine McCoy of Thomaston Ga, daughters Mrs. Janet McCoy Coley of Thomaston Ga, Mrs. Virginia Cole of Griffin Ga, son Mr. Blake (Susan) McCoy of Thomaston Ga, brothers Mr. Mydolyn (Mary Alice) McCoy of Griffin Ga, Mr. Kenneth (Edith) McCoy of Barnesville Ga, Mr. James (Jacque) McCoy of Thomaston Ga, brother in law Mr. Leon Ross of Barnesville Ga, sister Mrs. Peggy (Gary) White of Barnesville Ga, sister in law Mrs. Linda (Jerry) Stacks of Lancaster S.C., grandchildren Joshua (Nina) McCoy, Ashley (Andy) Stewart, Jacob (Christy) McCoy, Isaac Cole, Bubba (Sandra) Montgomery, Daniel Cole and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mr. Felder Ashley "Bo" Mimbs, age 76, of Thomaston, died Monday, May 15, 2017 at the Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Mimbs was born on February 1, 1941 in Emanuel County Ga, to the late Woodrow and Gladys Durden Mimbs. He was formerly employed with Thomaston Mills where he worked for 20 years and later owned and operated Eastern Travels and the City Cab. Mr. Mimbs served his country in the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Betty C. Mimbs of Thomaston Ga, sons Mr. Steven Ashley (Brenda) Mimbs of Thomaston Ga, Mr. Felder Thomas (Jana) Mimbs of Thomaston Ga, brothers Mr. Larry (Julie Anne) Mimbs of Dublin Ga, Mr. Mark Mimbs of Soperton Ga, 6 Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren.

MR. JAMES LEONARD YARBROUGH

Mr. James Leonard Yarbrough, age 70, of Thomaston Ga, died Thursday, May 11, 2017, at his residence. 

Mr. Yarbrough, was born January 6, 1947, in Thomaston to Johnnie Jimmerson Yarbrough and the late Marvin Lenwood Yarbrough. He was owner/operator of Pitt's Pest Control, member of Zion's Chapel Methodist Church, the American Legion, the Fairlane Club of America, and Veteran of the U.S. Air Force during Vietnam.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Yarbrough; son, Allen (Kimberli) Yarbrough; mother, Johnnie Yarbrough; brother, John Yarbrough; grandchildren, Tanner Yarbrough, Jessica (Jeremy) Tyson, Kristina (Matt) Coleman, Jeannie (Nelson) Gramer, and Abby (Jacob) Fuchs; great-grandchildren, Phobe Coleman, and Jalah Coleman.

MRS. NELL BELAND WHEELESS

Mrs. Nell Beland Wheeless age 90 of Thomaston Ga, died Saturday May 6, 2017 at Providence Nursing Center. 

Mrs. Wheeless was born on March 4, 1927 in Taylor County Ga, to the late James Thomas and Ludie Parker Beland. She was employed with the William Carter Company where she worked as an inspector until her retirement. Mrs. Wheeless was a member of Pleasant Hill Primitive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Huell Otto Wheeless Sr.

Survivors include her daughter Mrs. Sheryl Butler of Lagrange Ga, sons Mr. Huell O. (Mary) Wheeless Jr. of Woodstock Ga, Mr. Jim (Debbie) Wheeless of Thomaston Ga, sister Mrs. Margie (Randall) Drummond of Douglasville Ga, 7 Grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday May 9, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Coggins Funeral Home on Tuesday May 9, 2017 from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

MR. GENE EARL CONDREY

Mr. Gene Earl Condrey age 69 of Thomaston Ga, died Friday May 5, 2017 at his residence. 

Mr. Condrey was born on March 12, 1948 in Columbus Ga, to the late Floyd and Elwene Golden Condrey. He was employed with State Farm Insurance Company where he worked as an adjuster until his retirement. Mr. Condrey was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his brothers Wayne and Dennis Condrey.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Sherry Hardy Condrey of Thomaston Ga, son Mr. Brian (Kelly) Joiner of Thomaston Ga, brother Mr. Harry (Mary) Condrey of Cataula Ga,  sisters Mrs. Janie Brannon of Cataula Ga, Mrs. Kathy Forbes of Jacksonville Fl, sister in law Mrs. Sonya (Clay) Watkins, brother in law Mr. Dennis (Tina) Hardy, grandchildren Jacob and Kaylee Joiner, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday May 10, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at Coggins Funeral Home on Wednesday May 10, 2017 from 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

MR. DONALD ALBERT PAGE SR.

Mr. Donald Albert Page, Sr., age 86, formerly of Thomaston, died peacefully on May 6, 2017, at Wellstar Tranquility Kennesaw Mountain. Graveside funeral services for Mr. Page will be held on Tuesday, May 9, at 11:00 AM, in Glenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday morning from 10 until 11 AM at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home.
Mr. Page was born in Thomaston on October 13, 1930, the only child of Marion and Ruth Darling Page. He pioneered his own path to success. Despite his birth during the Great Depression, Don went on to graduate from R. E. Lee Institute, attended Emory University, and then finally accomplished his greatest goal of earning a Doctorate of Law from the University of Georgia. Later, he had the unique opportunity to serve as a Georgia State Legislator. In addition to having a successful law practice in Thomaston, Don was very active in religious, civic, political and professional organizations. Don, along with his wife Anne, were active members of the First Baptist Church of Thomaston.
Mr. Page is survived by his wife, Anne Colquitt Page; stepsons: Hardy (Kellie) Wheeless and Michael ( Elisa) Wheeless; a son, Donny (Joan) Page; and six grandchildren: Leah Page (Scott) Andrews; Donald Walker (Jessica) Page; Abby Wheeless; Sam Wheeless; Mason Wheeless; and Michael Wheeless.
