MRS. BETTY B. SHEPARD

Mrs. Betty B. Shepard, 93, of Thomaston, died Thursday, June 29, 2017, at Riverside Health and Rehab.
Funeral services for Mrs. Shepard will be held on Sunday, July 2nd, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Trinity Baptist Church. Rev. Bob Wilson will officiate and burial will follow in Upson Memorial Gardens. The family of Mrs. Shpeard will receive friends at Trinity Baptist Church on Sunday from 2:00 PM until the funeral hour.
Mrs. Shepard was born June 19, 1924, in Columbia, SC, daughter of the late Henry Stanley and Lou Ellen Bragg Benson. She was raised in Columbus, GA and had lived in Upson County for over 70 years. She was a graduate of Tift College. 
Mrs. Shepard was a retired educator and taught 3rd grade classes at Atwater Elementary School. 
Mrs. Shepard was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church and until her death she was the church's oldest living member. 
Mrs. Shepard is survived by her husband, Harville Shepard of Thomaston; two sons, Bob (Susan) Shepard of Thomaston and Joe (Laurie) Shepard of Jacksonville, FL; two brothers, Dr. Stan (Mary Florence) Benson of Chattanooga, TN, and Marvin (Mildred) Benson of Atlanta; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Mr. Adam Travis Corley, age 33, of Thomaston, died Sunday, June 25, 2017, in Talbot County GA.

Mr. Corley was born on May 24, 1984 in Thomaston Ga, to William Frank Corley and Paulette Burks Corley. He worked in the paint and body industry. Mr. Corley was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Shanna Lowry Corley of Thomaston Ga, daughters Addyson Corley of Thomaston Ga, Aubrey Corley of Thomaston Ga, sons Cooper Corley of Thomaston Ga, Caynon Corley of Thomaston Ga, father Bill (Lynn) Corley of Thomaston Ga, mother Paulette (Mitch Barron) Corley of Thomaston Ga, step brother Shane Horton of Zebulon Ga, sister Amiee Corley of Thomaston Ga, nephews Karter & Korby.

MRS. MARY L. BLOUNT

Mrs. Mary L. Blount, age 70, of Thomaston, died Saturday, June 24, 2017, at Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin GA.

Mrs. Blount was born September 26, 1946, in Upson County to the late Oscar and Pauline Darsey. She retired from Keadle Lumber Company and attended Northside Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James William "Bill" Blount JR. Survivors are her daughter, Libby (Mike) Kinsaul of Thomaston; Son, James William "Billy" (Cherie) Blount III of Thomaston; brother, Clinton (Jean) Darsey of Milidgeville GA; sister-in-law, Suzanne (Cliff) Bowles of Woodbury; grandchildren, Jason (Rachel) Kinsaul, Heather (Parker) Foster, Tanner Blount, and Connor Blount.

Funeral services for Mrs. Blount will be held on Monday, June 26, 2017, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Southview Cemetery.

MR. BILLY EUGENE REEVES

Mr. Billy Eugene Reeves, age 85, of Thomaston, died Saturday, June 24, 2017, at the Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Reeves was born January 2, 1932, in Upson County to the late Lonnie L. and Juanita B. Reeves. He was owner/operator of Sing Foods Convenient Store, retired U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant, and member of Clark's Chapel Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Carleen Reeves of Thomaston; daughters, Jennifer (Jim) Williams, and Tina Tindale both of Thomaston; sons, Randall Reeves of Clevland GA, and Mike (Theresa) Reeves of Thomaston; mother-in-law, Mrs Margaret Bransford of Thomaston; 6 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by 2 sisters; 2 brothers; and 1 great-grandchild.

Funeral services for Mr. Reeves will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at 2:00PM in the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home, with entombment to follow in Glenwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Laura Ann Fletcher Durand, 61, of Thomaston, died Wednesday, June 21, 2016, at her residence. Funeral services for Mrs. Durand will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Interment will follow in South View Cemetery. Mr. John M. Druce, age 88, of Thomaston, died Thursday, June 22, 2017, at his residence.

MR. JAMES ALTON "JIMMY" HARRELL

Mr. James Alton "Jimmy" Harrell, age 57, of Thomaston Ga, died Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at Upson Regional Medical Center. 

Mr. Harrell, was born March 5, 1960, in Albany GA, to Jimmy Harrell and Sue Perry. He worked for the Pike County Recreation Department, was a Veteran of the Georgia National Guard, and member of Fellowship Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy Harrell; daughter, Katie Harrell; mother, Sue Perry; father, Jimmy (Sara) Harrell; mother-in-law, Lynda (Leon) Taylor; brothers, John Harrell, Joe Harrell, and Jason (Barbara) Harrell; 3 grandchildren, Ashlyn Turner, Bentley Turner, and Willow Dean, all of Thomaston.

Graveside services for Mr. Harrell will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2017, at 2:00 PM in Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, from 4:00 - 6-00 PM at Coggins Funeral Home.

MR. WADE GRADY LORD JR.

Wade Grady Lord, Jr., age 86, of Thomaston, died Saturday, June 17, 2017, at his home surrounded by family.
Mr. Lord was born in Upson County, the oldest of four, to Wade Grady and Iona Lord April 12, 1931. He served his country in the United States Navy and the United States Border Patrol. He was also an ATF agent with the United States Treasury Department and worked for the Georgia Department of Transportation. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
Mr. Lord was a loving husband, father and granddaddy. He adored his wife of nearly 65 years, Betty Lord, and their three children, Linda, Coral and Barry. His granddaughters and great-granddaughters were his pride and joy; spending time with them was the highlight of each day. He loved fishing, Nascar, playing pool with his buddies, the Braves and Falcons. In his earlier years he was an accomplished boxer and still held a passion for the sport until his dying day.
He was preceded in death by both, his mother and father; sister, Evelyn Lord MeGill and brother, Fred Lord.
Mr. Lord is survived by his wife Betty Lord, of Thomaston; daughters, Linda (Bob) Smith, of Thomaston, and Coral (George) Zeck, of Dayton, Ohio; son, Barry (Pam) Lord, of Thomaston; sister, Patricia (Larry) Reese; four granddaughters, Adrian (Bran) Griffith, of Fayetteville, Callie (Chris) Kelly, Sydney (Matt) Sharpe, all of Thomaston and Laura Zeck, of Dayton, Ohio; four great-granddaughters, Avery Griffith, Mattie Griffith, Marlie Kelly and Maizy Kelly.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday June 20, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. from Fellowship Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at Fellowship Baptist Church fellowship hall from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

MRS. JEAN PARTAIN YATES

Mrs. Jean Partain Yates age 78 of Thomaston Ga, died Sunday June 18, 2017 at The Medical Center of Central Georgia.

Mrs. Yates was born on June 13, 1939 in Thomaston Ga, to the late Willie Partain and the late Alvesta Corley Partain. She was formerly employed with Hometown Printers where she worked as a book keeper.

MR. RONALD GORDON MCMAHAN


Mr. Ronald Gordon McMahan, 84, formerly of Yatesville, GA, passed away peacefully at home in Pollock Pines, CA on Saturday, May 13th, 2017 surrounded by his wife Eileen and loved ones. 
Born September 7th, 1932, in Bedford, IN, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Eva May Patton McMahan. Ron married Birdie Mae Pumphrey of Kings Mountain KY and they raised three children together. Ron and Birdie attended the Yatesville Baptist Church in their later years. 
Ron retired after 30 years from General Motors as a foundry worker in Tilton, IL and was a devoted St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and Hoosier Indiana basketball fan his entire life. He was also a self-taught guitar player who learned to play the country songs he loved by ear.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen McMahan and his children Ronald (Samme) McMahan, Rhonda (Raymond) Francisco and Richard (Stacey) McMahan, and grandchildren, Austin, Monica, Forrest, Ian, Nolan and Ulysses and great-grandchildren, Malik, Jack and Izakiah-Brandon. He is also survived by four of his sisters, Patricia Henderson, Mary Hall, Jolene Fruits and Judy Barnes. He is proceeded in death by his late wife and the mother of his children, Birdie Mae Pumphrey McMahan of Yatesville, GA and his brother, Charles McMahan and sister, Barbara Krodel. 
A memorial service will be held at New Hope Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Yatesville, GA, officiated by Rev. Terry Threadgill on June 25th, 2017 at 2 pm.

MRS. DORIS HOGAN DANIEL

Mrs. Doris Hogan Daniel, age 86, of Thomaston died June 18 at her residence. 
Mrs. Daniel was born Feb. 1, 1931, in Thomaston to the late Emory Harper Hogan and Florrie Hudgins Hogan. She was a graduate of R.E. Lee Institute and retired from the Thomaston-Upson County School System in 1996. She was a member of the Flint River Primitive Baptist Church where she currently served as clerk for the past 18 years.
She became the first paraprofessional in the Upson County School System in 1964, where she served at Thurston School for two years and then became secretary where she served until she retired. 
Mrs. Daniel is proceeded in death by the late Willie Calvin Daniel and brother Ralph Hogan, Sr. She is survived by her children; Mark (Bobbie) Daniel of Thomaston, Doris Ann (Bobby) Scarborough of Vienna; grandchildren, Cal (Ansley) Scarborough of Byromville, Jeremy (Amy) Daniel of Thomaston, Jessica (Sean) Harris of Thomaston, Deana (Josh) Brewer of Byron, Jamie McCard of Warner Robins and Jessica McManus of Concord; great-grandchildren, Sophia and Sawyer Harris, Mason and Tate Scarborough, Shaw and Emma Daniel, Caydee and Camden Brewer, Flint and Clay McCard. Sister-in-law Mary L. Hogan and brother-in-law Dennis A (Betty) Daniel Jr., all of Thomaston. Nephews; Ralph (Denise) Hogan Jr. of Concord, Larry (Rhonda) Daniel of Helen.

MR. RONNIE GEORGE WEAVER

Mr. Ronnie George Weaver, age 77, went to be with The Lord on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at Riverside Nursing Home. Mr. Weaver was born on July 19, 1939, in Sarcoxie, Missouri, to Hershel Lorne Weaver and Frances P. Weaver. He served in the Navy as a medic on the USS Shangri-la. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Thomaston.
Mr. Weaver is survived by his wife of 40 years, Bernice O. Weaver, sons Scott (Deana) Weaver of Thomaston, Joe Weaver of Savannah, daughter, Mistie Weaver of Thomaston, granddaughter Hannah Kate Weaver. He is also survived by his brother  Mr.Jimmy Joe Weaver, and his sister, Mrs. Jill (Ron) Harris, both of Joplin, Missouri, and  his sister, Mrs. Jackie Childers of Thomaston. 
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother,  Donnie Lee Weaver, and a sister, Kay Whisner.
 A memorial service will be held on June 18 at 3:00 p.m. at Coggins Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church media ministry.

MR. THOMAS BENEDICT BORRAZZO

Mr. Thomas Benedict Borrazzo, age 65, of Griffin, died Thursday, June 8, 2017, at Eternal Hope Hospice in Griffin GA.

Mr. Borrazzo was born in Upson County to the late Salvatore and Rudene Borrazzo. He was a supervisor for B.F. Goodrich's Martha Mills, and attended Emmaus Primitive Baptist Church.

He is survived by his sister, Lisa Borrazzo of Thomaston; and cousin, Rosemund Watson of Yatesville.

Graveside services for Mr. Borrazzo, will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2017, at 2:00 PM in Crystal Hill Cemetery.

MR. WALTER LEON LEWIS

Mr. Walter Leon Lewis, age 91, of Yatesville Ga, died Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at Riverside Health and Rehab. 

Mr. Lewis was born March 15, 1926, in Upson County to the late Walter and Clyde Lewis. He retired from the Thomaston Mills Dye department with over 40 years, a member of King's Chapel Baptist Church, and WWII U.S. Navy SeeBee Veteran.

He is preceded in death by his wife Helen Blount Lewis. Survivors are his daughter, Angie (Daniel) DeAngelis of Yatesville; son, Tim (Denise) Lewis of Thomaston; grandchildren, Daniel (Cristy) DeAngelis, Nick (Melissa) DeAngelis, Hannah DeAngelis, Kelli (Jordan) Daniels, and Katelyn Lewis; great-grandchildren, Ella Kate Daniels, Reece Daniels, and Matto DeAngelis.

Funeral services for Mr. Lewis will be held on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Kings Chapel Baptist Church, with burial to follow in New Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 8, 2017, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Coggins Funeral Home.

MRS. LORETTA ANN HOARD WILLIAMS

Mrs. Loretta Ann Hoard Williams, age 69, of Yatesville, died Monday June 5, 2017, at Birghtmoor Hospice in Griffin GA. 

Mrs. Williams, was born November 11, 1947, in Spalding county to the late Edward and Lawana Hoard. She was a Nurses Assistant for the Upson County School System, and member of the Yatesville Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie Williams; and brother, Donnie Eugene Hoppe. Survivors are her daughters, Melinda (Joseph) Rosser of Barnesville, Connie (Russell) Montoya of Yatesville, and Cindy (Greg) Williams of Yatesville; son, Darren Massey of San Jose CA; sister, Shelia Diane (Mike) Hardy of Griffin; brothers, Junior Edward Dewitt Hoard of Griffin, Randy (Donna) Prince of Barnesville, and Michael (Babette) Prince of Griffin; 6 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Deborah Karen Cotton age 56 of Thomaston Ga, died Saturday June 3, 2017 at Upson Regional Medical Center. 

Mrs. Cotton was born on September 24, 1960 in Griffin Ga, to the late Ronnie Newman and the late Joann Pitts Robinson. She worked as a painter.

Survivors include her daughters Tonya (Billy Terry) Hambrick of Middleburg Fl, Brandy McChargue of Thomaston Ga, Kelly (David) McSwiggan of Springfield Mo, Tara (Courtney Newman) House of Rome Ga, sons Douglas (Kim) Cotton of Griffin Ga, Eddie (Sarah) House of Molena Ga, Jason (Sandy) House of Molena Ga, Brian (Summer Hoyal) House of Molena Ga, brother Bubba Newman of Thomaston Ga, sisters Sherrie (Bryan) Sprayberry of Zebulon Ga, Dewana (Robert) Brantley of Thomaston Ga, 21 Grandchildren, 5 Great Grandchildren, fiance Linwood Huckaby.

MS. MARGARET LOUISE FOWLER TAYLOR

Ms. Margaret Louise Fowler Taylor age 81 of Thomaston Ga, died Sunday June 4, 2017 at Riverside Health and Rehab. 

Ms. Taylor was born on July 4, 1935 in Hall County Georgia to the late Paul W. Fowler and the late Ruth B. Fowler. She worked as a Medical Assistant for 45 years until her retirement. She was a member of the Thomaston Church of God.

Survivors include her son Mr. Sam (Tina) Coker Sr. of Thomaston Ga, brothers Mr. Billy (Mildred) Fowler of Thomaston Ga, Mr. Jimmy (Sandra) Fowler of Rome Ga, sisters Mrs. Barbara Dotson of Byron Ga, Mrs. Carolyn Latrell of Buckeye Az, grandchildren Sam Coker Jr, Seth (Mary Ann) Coker great grandchildren Knox Coker, Caroline Coker.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday June 6, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Coggins Funeral Home on Tuesday June 6, 2017 from 10-11 a.m.
