MRS. RACHEL ANN HAMMOCK FRENCH

Mrs. Rachel Ann Hammock French, age 70, of Zebulon, passed away July 28, 2021, at her home. She was born January 4, 1951, daughter of the late Merrell Grady Hammock and Jewell Willene Eilliott Hammock. Rachel grew up in Pike County graduating from Pike County High School in 1968. 

Early in her career she worked in the office of Dr. William King and then in the medical records department at Spalding Hospital. Later, she worked as a Claim Representative for the Social Security Administration, retiring after 30 years. She was a member of North Church Street Church of Christ in Thomaston and attended Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Barnesville for many years. Rachel enjoyed traveling, flowers and dancing. She was always a selfless and loving person.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Shaw and her step-son, Jerry Shaw.

She is survived by her husband: Neal French; brothers: Gary Hammock and Billy Hammock both of Zebulon; daughter-in-law: Sherry Shaw of Griffin; step-children: Kim Mason and husband Eddie of Thomaston and Jim French of Ft. Myers, FL; grandchildren and their spouses: Alicia and Ron Adams, Leeann and Brent Terry, Michelle and Luke Harmsen, Clint and Hannah Shaw, Kelli and Ricky Marker and Mari-Beth and John Hagin; nieces: Heather Rhodes and husband Kerry of Thomaston and Taylor Grace Bush of NC; great-niece: Dasia Jewell Rhodes; great-nephew: Dawson Gary Hammock; special friend: Tammy Greear of Thomaston; and many great-grandchildren and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 8, 2:00 p.m., in the Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 1400 Highway 18 West, Barnesville, GA 30204.

Mrs. Elaine Bice Wilkerson, age 84, of Snellville, died Wednesday, July 28, 2021, in Snellville.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 1, 2021 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel. A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 2, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Crystal Hill Cemetery, 321 Hannahs Mill Rd, Thomaston, GA 30286. MRS. LINDA YOUNG

Mrs. Linda Young, age 63, of Thomaston GA, passed away Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at Brightmoor Hospice.

Mrs. Young was born on February 4, 1958, in Upson County, to the Late Roy Patrick and the late Agnes Cook Patrick. She worked at the Thomaston Mills for 20 years and was a member of Family Calvary Lighthouse Church. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Glenn Young of Thomaston, brother Steven (Rosa) Patrick of Byron, and sister, Sheryl (Ricky) Gresham of Thomaston.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 1, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Upson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 31, 2021 from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. at Coggins Funeral Home.

MRS. REMONIA ANN HUFF PAIT OF WILLIAMSON

Mrs. Remonia Ann Huff Pait, age 81, of Williamson, passed away July 28, 2021. She was born in LaFollette, TN, daughter of the late Clell Coakley Huff and Nell Marie Wyrick Huff. Remonia worked as a secretary at Bottoms Nursery in Concord for many years. She also had several other part-time jobs, but the ones she enjoyed the most were at Belk in Griffin and Barnstormer’s Grill in Williamson. Remonia could never pass up a yard sale and always enjoyed eating at McDonalds. She was a member of Harps Crossing Baptist Church in Hollonville. When asked how she was doing, she would always reply, with a big smile, “I’m fabulous.”

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Pait, brother, Clell Huff and two sisters, Jo Summey and Jean Elder.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Terry and Robin Matlock of Senoia, Mark and Carol Pait of KY, Sandy and David Cook of Jackson and Dawn and Phil Gardner of NC; grandchildren and their spouses: Nick and Courtney Matlock, Ashley and Matt Mings, Jason Pait, Amanda Buck, Audrey Cook, Cameron Gardner, Chris Gardner, Amanda and James Blackwood, and Michael and Jane Fouts; great-grandchildren: Remi and Hunter Parker, Emerson and Callie Mings, Ben Buck, Troy and Mallory Blackwood, and Hollis and Lawson Fouts; sisters and brothers-in-law: Emma and Kenneth Clark of Williamson, and Louise and Dennis Davis of NC; brother and sister-in-law: Charles and Diane Huff of TX; special nephews: Kelly Chambers and Jeff Huff; and many more nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit the family on Sunday, August 1, 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Watson officiating.

RETIRED STATE TROOPER WAYNE DOUGLAS SHIVERS OF WILLIAMSON

Mr. Wayne Douglas Shivers, age 84, of Williamson, passed away July 26, 2021. Wayne was born in Pike County, son of the late Elton Shivers and Talma Pritchard Shivers. He was a 1955 graduate of Pike County High School and DeKalb College. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Wayne worked as a Georgia State Patrolman for 27 years at Post 1 in Griffin, Post 34 in Manchester and Post 24 in Newnan, retiring as Sergeant. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Zebulon, where he sang in the choir. He enjoyed golfing, trips to the beach, and casinos. Wayne was also a long-time Mason.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Larry Shivers and Bill Shivers and his former wife, Linda Livingston Shivers.

He is survived by his children and their spouses: Kristal and David Dunn of High Falls, Wayne Shivers, II of Newnan and Kelley and Frank Bennett of Marietta; grandchildren: Rachel Dunn, Riley Dunn, Will Bennett and Landon Bennett; his former wife: Geri Proctor and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 29, at 3 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with Dr. Ed Hoard officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Zebulon.

MR. QUINTON GARNER OF CONCORD

Mr. Quenton Garner, age 68, of Concord passed away July 26, 2021, at his home. He was the son of the late Jasper Garner and Audrey Tanksley Garner. For most of his life Quenton was in the paint and body business. Quenton was quick-witted, could tell a good joke, and enjoyed making others laugh. He was an avid golfer. He loved to fish, hunt and do anything outdoors.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, W. J. Garner and Jimmy Garner.

He is survived by his wife: Jackie Garner; children: Tim Garner (Christy), Dennis Garner (Faith), and Angie Garner (Jason Edwins); grandchildren: Victor Edwins, Ali Garner, Kyle Garner, Kayla Edwins, Kelsey Garner, Jacob Edwins, and Dylan Garner; brothers and sisters: Jasper Garner (Donna), Larry Garner (Karen), Stanley Garner (Joy), Linda Scott (Jerry Scott), Patsy Meacham; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit the family on Wednesday, July 28, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the funeral home.

MRS. DEBORA ANN RANDALL HAY

Mrs. Debora Ann Randall Hay age 64 of Thomaston Ga., passed away Friday July 23, 2021 at Upson Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Hay was born on October 18, 1956 in Thomaston Ga., to the late J.C. Randall and the late June Skipper Randall. She was formerly employed with Wal-Mart where she worked for 18 years until her retirement. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her daughter Nikki Raybon Dean.

Survivors include her son Mr. Randy (Penny) Raybon of Griffin Ga.,brother Mr. James Curtis Randall of Thomaston Ga., significant other Mr. Michael Jones of Thomaston Ga., grandchildren Bethany June Dean, James Curtis Dean, Johnathan Sebastian Dean, Brandon (Jessica) Laster, Garth Laster, 5 great grandchildren.

MRS. BETTY IMOGENE REDDING NEWMAN

Mrs. Betty Imogene Redding Newman age 88 of Thomaston Ga., passed away Saturday July 24, 2021 at her residence.

Mrs. Newman was born on April 1, 1933 in Pavo Ga., to the late William Edgar Redding, and the late Essie Mae Key Redding. She was formerly employed with Wal-Mart where she worked as a door greeter for many years. Mrs. Newman was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Barnesville Ga., and the Upson Regional Medical Center Auxillary. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Rev. Lawrence Newman Jr.

Survivors include her daughters Mrs. Connie Newman (Everett) Sawyer of Greenville Ga., Mrs. Sandra Denise Newman of Thomaston Ga., sons Col. James Larry (Dorothy) Newman of Knoxville Tn., Rev. Michael Allen (Jeri) Newman of Barnesville Ga., brothers Mr. Tommy Redding of Pavo Ga., Mr. Eddie Redding of Pavo Ga., 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren.

Peggy Lucille Stewart Martin, age 61, of Williamson, passed away July 20, 2021, at Eternal Hope Hospice in Griffin. Peggy was born in Portland, TN, daughter of the late James Stewart and Irene Brummett Stewart. She enjoyed gardening, loved animals and she never met a stranger.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Sheldon Stewart, and sisters, Jean Wallace and Janet West.

She is survived by her husband: Kenny Martin; daughters and sons-in-law: Rikki and Jason Hay of Thomaston, Trisha and Justin Hammett of Zebulon, Shannon and Rey Lopez of Barnesville and Leslie Cherrier of Zebulon; son: Zack Martin of Williamson; 18 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; and sister: Sheril Prochaska of Murfreesboro, TN.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2021, 2:00 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with Pastor Damien Wright officiating. Burial will follow in Moody Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Teri Marie Spivey Viano, age 57, of Thomaston, died Sunday, June 20, 2021, at her residence.

Mrs. Viano was born on December 2, 1963 in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late James McArthur Spivey and the late Geraldine Bounds Hopper. She was a housewife. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Mr. Jessie Burden DeLoatch Jr.

Mr. Jessie Burden DeLoatch Jr., age 90 of Thomaston Ga., died Wednesday July 14, 2021 at Riverside Health and Rehab.

Mr. DeLoatch was born on November 27, 1930 in Northampton County North Carolina to the late Jessie Burden DeLoatch Sr., and the late Mary Gladys Wade DeLoatch. He was formerly employed with Trailways where he worked as a Bus Driver for 22 years until his retirement. Mr. DeLoatch served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his siblings. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife Mrs. Barbara DeLoatch of Thomaston Ga., sons Mr. Thomas (Lynn) DeLoatch of Albany Ga., Mr. Dennis (Nancy) DeLoatch of Chatsworth Ga., Mr. Ryan (Stayce) DeLoatch of Thomaston Ga., 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren also survive.

MRS. MAVIS KELLY

Mrs. Mavis Kelly, 96 of West village in Thomaston died July 7, 2021, at Upson Regional Medical Center.

The funeral services will be Friday, July 9, 2021, at 11:00 AM in the Pavillion at The Gathering Church. Interment will follow in Southview Cemetery.

Mrs. Kelly was born October 29, 1924, in Schley Co. GA to the late James Joabb and Minnie Eubanks Grantham. She was a member of Thomaston First United Methodist Church and was retired from the Thomaston Mills with 30 plus years of service.

Mrs. Kelly was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Marion Douglas Kelly, and her sister, Irene Trice Sawyer.

Survivors include her daughters, Beverly Kelly English and her husband Paschal, Jr. of Thomaston and Marion Kimberly Kelly of Atlanta, sister, Kathleen Grantham Short of Thomaston, five grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren.

MRS. SHEILA MARIE HANCOCK

Mrs. Sheila Marie Hancock, age 63, of Thomaston, died Monday, July 5, 2021, at Emory Health in Decatur GA.

Mrs. Hancock was born June 30, 1958, in New Orleans LA to James Daniel SR. and the late Betty Lou Cammack Daniel. She was food service provider for Upson County School System.

She is survived by her husband, Lee Hancock of Thomaston; daughter, Tiffany (Karen) Bridges of Thomaston; son, Blake Daniel of Thomaston; sisters, Kay Goodman and Julie (Randy) Teal both of Thomaston; sister-in-law, Lynn Daniel of Thomaston; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mother, Betty Lou Daniel; brother, Jimmy Daniel; sister, Diana Daniel Weaver; and step-mother, Jan Daniel.

Memorial services for Mrs. Hancock will be announced later by Coggins Funeral Home.

MRS. PATRICIA AZALEA GIBSON MARSHALL

Mrs. Patricia "Pat" Azalea Gibson Marshall, age 72, of Thomaston, died Sunday, July 4, 2021, at her residence.

Mrs. Marshall was born September 24, 1948, in Upson County to the late, William S. and Martha Thompson Gibson. She worked for Thomaston Mills, Carters, Ritz Cafe, and TV10 Gospel Tracks, and was a faithful member of Mountain view Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Martha Gibson; husband, James David Marshall; sister, Kathy Neeley; and sister-in-law, Bonnie Wine. Survivors are her sons, Tim Gordy and Chase (Susan) Marshall; sister, Willene Melder; sisters-in-law, Barbara Smith and Helen (Ricky) Anderson; brother, Chuck (Mary) Gibson; brother-in-law, Johnny (Darlene) Marshall; and grandson, Logan Gordy.

Funeral services for Mrs. Marshall will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Mountain View Baptist Church. Graveside service will be Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Griffin Memorial Gardens.
