Roger Wayne Rowland

Roger Wayne Rowland, age 72, of Zebulon, passed away December 31, 2022.

Roger was born on July 13, 1950, to the late James and Bettye Rowland. Roger grew up on a farm in Florida where he learned to grow produce alongside his parents. Roger followed his father’s footsteps and farmed produce until the early 1990’s. Roger went on to work as a mechanic and a heavy equipment operator until his eventual retirement.

Roger was lovingly known as “String Bean” or “Goat” due to his tall, thin stature and his ability to eat endlessly without gaining weight. He was funny and laid back. Roger was thought of as a “redneck MacGyver” because he was handy and could fix just about anything. Roger was a real hoot. His favorite pastime was fishing with his best pal, Buster the dog. He loved being on the water so much that he lived in a houseboat named “Finally Made It” in Eufaula, Alabama for many years. Roger will be remembered as a fun and loving dad, Grandad and friend to many.

Along with his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his wife Denise Rowland. He is survived by his children: Tami Rowland of Delray Beach, FL, Kristy Rowland of Sylva, NC, Jennifer Rowland (J.D. Moore) of Williamson, and Travis Rowland (Jamie Moore) of Williamson; grandchildren: Lexi Felicetta, Dominic Felicetta, Clayton Guinn, Tucker Marchman, Abbey Marchman, Landon Karoffa, Cooper Moore, Ty Rowland and Lane Rowland; brothers and sisters-in-law: Jimmy and Beverly Rowland of Okeechobee, FL, Larry and Sandy Rowland of Live Oak, FL, Danny and Mary Rowland of Grant, FL; beloved canine companion: Buster.

A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, January 5th in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home. Friends may visit the family beginning at 1 PM at the funeral home.
