Mrs. Butts was born on July 29, 1951, in Thomaston to the late Reginald Fortner and the late Edith Barron Fortner. She retired from Clayton County Schools after 30 plus years as a schoolteacher and was a member of First Baptist Church of Thomaston. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Reginald Fortner II.
Survivors include her daughter, Shannon (Logan Phillips) Butts of Gainesville, Florida, son, Ryan (Roxanne) Butts of Fayetteville, Georgia, brother, Thomas Fortner of Fayetteville, Georgia, sisters, Deborah (Brian) Thames of Elberton, Linda (Zippo) Beeghly of Griffin, Brenda (Barney) Harp of Meansville, grandchildren, Jade and Ella, and grand dog, Reagan.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Coggins Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 5, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at Coggins Funeral Home. Those that desire may bring photos of Mrs. Edith and they will be displayed on a memory board during visitation.
