Daisy Jarrell Cochran Gentry

Mrs. Daisy Jarrell Cochran Gentry, age 98, of Thomaston, died Thursday, August 17, 2023, at her residence.  Funeral services for Mrs. Gentry will be held Saturday, August 19, at 11:00 AM, in the chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral Home with Dr. Derrick Keeter officiating.  The family will receive friends at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Friday, August 18.

Mrs. Gentry was born in Griffin, GA, on February 7, 1925, to the late Charlie Grady Jarrell and the late Allie Cobb Jarrell.  She moved to Thomaston when she was three years old.  She was fifth of eleven siblings. She was a welder in Savannah during World War II.  She worked in the canteen at Thomaston Mills and was a checker there as well.  Later she had Daisy's Dinner Bell, her own sandwich shop, which was located in the Thomaston Bowling Center.  Her last profession was with Woodmen of the World Insurance Company where she retired on March 1, 1990.  When Daisy retired, she moved to Panama City Beach for fifteen years, and at the age of 80, she returned to Thomaston.  She loved working in her yard, and she was never happier than when she had a water hose in her hand and flowers all around her.  She liked to travel and was able to go to many places within the United States and abroad.  She loved staying in touch with others she cared about by sending cards and was more than gifted at encouraging and sharing her love and wisdom with others.  She adored her family and friends.  Daisy was always doing something for someone and never wanted or expected anything in return. She had the biggest heart and touched all who knew her.  She was a member of the Eastern Star and of the Fellowship Baptist Church.   In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gentry was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Cochran, and her second husband, James Gentry, and also by seven sisters: Judy Chambers, Lou Thomason, Dot Thompson, Helen Watson, Bobbie Mathis, Caroline Burns, LaVern Burns, as well as two brothers: Jake Jarrell and Frank Jarrell. Survivors include her daughters, Jackie Hanson of Milledgeville, GA, and Gina Daniel of Thomaston; a brother, Jack Jarrell of Thomaston; three grandchildren: Brian (Marsha) Hanson,of Locust Grove, GA; Holly (Jeremy) Ransom of Thomaston; David Hanson of UK;four great grandchildren: Tyler Hanson of San Diego, CA; Emily Hanson of Locust Grove, GA; Amanda Moore and Coby Moore, both of Thomaston; as well as Holly's other children and Daisy's many nieces and nephews.

There was never a soul who met her who did not hear the words,"I never had it so good."  This little statement sums up the legacy of her life - a life very beautifully and well lived. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to Thomaston Hospice Foundation, 512 S. Center St., Thomaston, GA  30286 or to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38205. Fletcher-Day Funeral Home of Thomaston is in charge of all arrangements.
