Robert “Bobby” Ernest Blalock

Mr. Robert “Bobby” Ernest Blalock, age 86, of Zebulon, passed away August 3, 2023, at Brightmoor Hospice.  Bobby grew up in the Savannah area and then moved to Roberta when he was young.  He worked as an appliance repairman for Sears for several years, then 15 years at Robbins Air Force Base as an aircraft mechanic, and then for Canal Wood in Roberta as a Timber Cruiser for 20 years before retiring.   Bobby was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Zebulon, where he faithfully served as Deacon and Sunday School teacher.  He loved his community and worked hard to make it a better place to live. He served for four years on the Zebulon City Council and then eight years as Mayor of Zebulon.  He also served on numerous boards, including The McIntosh Trail Council on Aging, and the Nelson Memorial Garden Club Foundation. Bobby worked tirelessly with the City of Zebulon to build a park and pavilion.  He also volunteered alongside his wife, Sandy, to work on beautification projects with the Crepe Myrtle Garden Club in Zebulon.

 

Bobby was an honest, kind, and hard-working man. He was an excellent woodworker, building amazing pieces of furniture for his family and friends, who will cherish them forever.  

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Nellie Blalock, a sister, Martha Gordon, and son-in-law, Roy McCullough.

 

He is survived by his wife of 27 years:  Sandra Garner Blalock; children: Wadra McCullough of Griffin, Gaye Durden (Gaynor) of Brooks and Tracy Kimbrell (Tommy) of Meansville; grandchildren:  Ashley Lux (Kevin), Blake Durden, Macy Mosher (Cody), Jacob McCullough (Lindsey), Bailey Kimbrell (Carlie) and Bryce Kimbrell; great-grandchildren: Cora Grace Lux, Max Lux, Elijah McCullough, Tessa McCullough, Hattie Mosher; sisters: Barbara Rowell and Virginia Wise both of Roberta; many nieces, nephews and friends.

 

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 5, at Noon, in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Hinesley officiating. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery in Zebulon.

 

Friends may visit the family on Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., at the funeral home.
