Mr. Matthew Galen Herring, age 45, passed away July 29, 2023, at Eternal Hope Hospice in Griffin. Matthew grew up in Zebulon, graduating from Pike County High School in 1997. His father, Bud Herring, was instrumental in establishing the recreational soccer program in Pike County, which Matthew excelled in. He also played football in high school. After graduation, Matthew worked with his dad for 8 years at Ford Motor Company in Hapeville. When the plant closed, he took the educational buyout and furthered his education at the Art Institute in Atlanta where he studied graphic design. He was also an excellent writer and a fantastic singer. He loved to karaoke whenever he had the opportunity. He liked fast and flashy cars too, the ones with stick shifts, and family trips to the beach.
For the past several years, Matthew worked for the United States Postal Service in Thomaston as a rural carrier. He was a wonderful and doting father to his two boys.
He was preceded in death by his father, Anderson “Bud” Herring, Jr.
He is survived by his sons: Ashton Joseph Herring and Aidan Matthew Herring of Zebulon; his mother: Janice Milligan Herring of Zebulon; former wife: Kelly Grisham Herring of Molena; and many family and friends.
