Joe was born in Telfair County, Georgia on August 16, 1946,
to the late Alex and Mamie Sue Pittman. As a young man, Joe joined the United
States Army and became a medical corpsman. In 1969, Joe was wed to Emma “Mae”
Pittman. The couple had two sons, Ashley and Alex. Joe worked as a truck driver
for over 40 years. He retired from Estes Express Lines in 2014.
Joe was a member of Meansville Baptist Church for 45 years.
He was an active deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member. He was a
talented singer and would often sing for the congregation. Joe enjoyed farm
life. He kept chickens and tended to his garden. He was a good and kind man. He
would do anything to help someone in need. Joe will be remembered for his
servant’s heart and his dedication to church and family.
Along with his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his
brothers and sisters: M.A. Pittman, Edward Pittman, Alma Singletary and Bonnie
Cowart.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years: Mae Pittman of
Meansville; sons and daughters-in-law: Ashley and Courtney Pittman of Griffin,
Alex and Nancy Pittman of Meansville; grandchildren: Olivia Jones and her
husband Garrett, Jonas, Wyatt, Walker and Millie Pittman; 5 great-grandchildren;
sister: Betty Brown; brother: Joe Skipper; many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM on Monday, April 17th
in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home. Friends may visit the family
beginning at 1 PM at the funeral home. Pastor David Timms will officiate.
Burial will follow in Fincher Memorial Cemetery.
