Mrs. Cleo Wainwright Tatum, age 101, of Thomaston, died Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at her residence. Funeral services for Mrs. Tatum will be held Saturday, April 29, at 2:00 PM, at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Andy Cunningham and Rev. Herb Flanders officiating. Interment will follow in South View Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church for one hour prior to the service.
Mrs. Tatum was born on June 17, 1921, in Reynolds, GA, to the late Lester J. Wainwright and the late Jessie Spillers Wainwright. She had made her home in Thomaston since 1941. Mrs. Tatum was retired as the bookkeeper for Binford Building Supply Company where she was employed for 55 years. She was a member and past treasurer of the Upson Regional Medical Center Auxiliary, a volunteer with the American Red Cross, a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and she was an avid bridge player. She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Thomaston where she served in many capacities including treasurer of the Service Sunday School Class, member of the Golden Age Club, and the United Methodist Women.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tatum was preceded in death by her husband, Terrell Tatum, her son John Tatum, two sisters: Christine Byrd and Emmie Lee Wainwright, and two brothers, Jack Wainwright and Walter Wainwright. She is survived by her niece and primary caregiver, Betty Byrd, and several other nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Ms. Elaine King for the loving manner in which she cared for Mrs. Tatum over the years.
